DanceClass&RehearsalConduct

AllclassesassociatedwiththeSchoolofDancecurriculumincludingEnsemblerehearsalswithfaculty,graduatestudentsandguestartistsareconsideredprofessionalenvironmentsconducivetoproductivity,artisticgrowthandinteractivelearningforstudents.Pleaseconsultthecoursesyllabusforeachclassinwhichyouareenrolledtolearnimportantguidelinesandrequirementsasspecifiedbyyourinstructor.Someoftheseareuniquetoaparticularclassandmayvaryfromoneinstructortoanother.

Instructorsforallclassesmaintainthefollowingfundamentalexpectationsforstudents:

Beprompt,organized,alertandpreparedforthestartofclass. Be100%engagedandattentiveforthedurationoftheclass. Avoiddistractingconversationswithfellowstudentsduringclasstime. Bewillinglearnersreceptivetoguidanceandcorrection. Takepersonalresponsibilityforcreatinganefficientflowandpaceoftheclassbymaintaining

orderly,respectfultransitionsfromonegrouptoanother. Eliminatedistractionsbyleavingcellphonesturnedoffandputaway.

DressCode

Carefullyfollowthespecificdresscodestatedinthesyllabusforeachinstructorscourse. Studentsmustcometoclasspreparedwiththeproperfootwearandattire.



ClassAttendance

Regular,consistentclassattendanceanddemeanorareextremelyimportantastheydemonstrateastudentscommitmenttotheprogram.Facultymonitorprogressmadeduringthesemesterandthestudentsabilitytotakecorrectionsandusethemtodevelopandtovisiblyimprove.

Consultthecoursesyllabusandpaycarefulattentiontotheattendancepolicyfortheclass.Thesyllabusmaylistaprovisionforobservingtheclassifunabletoparticipatefullyduetoillnessorinjury.

Attendanceweighsheavilyinthecalculationofthefinalgradeforeachclass.Goodcommunicationwithyourinstructorisstronglysuggestedwhenevermissingclass.

PhysicalConditioningMaintainingoptimalphysicalconditionisessentialtoperformatthehighestlevel.Eachdancershouldmaintainahealthy,athleticallyfitbodytomeettherigorofdanceasaprofessionalvocationandasamatterofprofessionalpreparedness.

Performers

Warmupclassesareconsideredanessentialpartoftheperformanceseason,andattendanceisincludedinconsiderationofanyEnsemblegrade.

Stayquietbackstage. Dontmonopolizethedressingroomsoundsystemandkeepthevolumelow. Acknowledgeannouncements,timecalls,placescalls,ordirectionsbythestagemanageror

assistant. Donthangoutinthewingsifyouarenotperformingorabouttoperform. Checktapshoescrewsbeforesteppingontoanydancefloor. Dontwearlotions,creams,oroilsifyouregoingtobeonanydancefloor. Noguestsfamily,friends,significantothers,nonperformersinthedressingroomafter

AudienceMembers Arrivebeforecurtaintime. Keepelectronicdevicessilentanddark. Donotrecordperformances. Donotscreamandshoutasiftheperformanceisadancecompetitionorsportingevent

becauseitisnot,andmanypeoplefinditoffensive. Makesureyourfriendsandrelativesknowandadheretotheserules.

CostumeShop

Appointments Whenyouneedtomeetwiththecostumeshopstaff,makeanappointmentviaemailrather

thanstoppingin. Whenyouarecalledforafitting,makeanappointmentpromptly,eitheronasignupsheetor

viaemail. Ifweemailyou,respondimmediately.Stoppingbythecostumeshopaweeklaterwithout

schedulinganappointmentisunacceptable. Alwaysbeontime.Inordertomaintainourschedule,youmustmaintainyourown. Donotmissyourfittings/appointments.Ifyoudo,youwillbereportedtothefaculty,andit

WILLadverselyaffectyourgrade.

Measurements Allstudentsarerequiredtosetyourinitialmeasurementappointmentasyouacceptyourrolein

FACULTYpiecesonthecallboard.THISISMANDATORYforanystudentcastinafacultypiece,includingunderstudiesandJazzShowcase.



IfyouhavenotbeencastinanyFACULTYpieces(Gradpiecesdonotcountasfacultypieces),youdonotneedtosignupforaninitialmeasurementappointment.WewillgetbasicmeasurementsfromyouonadateTBA.

Newstudentsandstudentscastinafacultypieceforthefirsttime:pleasesignupontheNEWSTUDENTSappointmentsheetonthecallboard.YourappointmentwillbewithKristenandIvywhowillbedoingafullsetofmeasurements.Youmustwearfullyfitteddanceclothestoyourappointment.Thisshouldbe:leoandtights,unitard,orbiketard.(Notshirts,sportsbras,orlooseshorts.)Menmustwearorbringadancebelt.Ifyoudonotcomedressedappropriately,aunitardwillbeprovidedforyou.

Returningstudentswhohavebeencastinafacultypiecepreviously:signupontheRETURNINGSTUDENTSsheetforanappointmentwithPablo.Youwillneedtowearfitteddanceclothesaswell.Thisisaquick5minuteappointmenttochecktoseeifyourbasicmeasurementshavechanged.Iftheyhavechangedsignificantly,youwillneedtosignupforasecondappointmentontheNewStudentssheettohaveanewfullsetofmeasurementstakenwithKristenandIvy.

PerformanceEtiquette Donoteat,drink,orsitincostume,astopreventunnecessarywrinkles,stains,etc. Westeamandironallthecostumesdailyduringtheshowrun.Pleasedonotruinthisby

changingintocostumetooearlyorsittinginyourcostume. Neverleavethedressingroom/stageareainyourcostume.Enteringthelobbyorsittinginthe

housetowatchtheshoworrehearsalwhileincostumeisunprofessionalandunacceptable. Hangupyourcostumesneatlyinthesamemannerinwhichyoufoundthem(infrontofyour

nameontherack.) Pleasereferencethelistofitemspostedforeachnightslaundry,andaddthoseitemstothe

laundrybasket. Changeoutofyourcostumesimmediatelyafteryourpiecehasended,beforenotesaregiven.

Laundryisalengthyprocess;webeginlaundryimmediatelyfollowingtheconclusionofeachpiece,withorwithoutyourcostumeitems.
