Tonda Highley, Sunny Duerr, Maggie Veve, Gowri Parameswaran, Karen Bell, Laura Dull,
Maryellen Whittington-Couse, Michael Rosenberg
2. Approval of Minutes: approved
3. Education Council Report – Terry absent
4. Dean’s Report (MSR)
a. Strategic Planning and Budgets – Wonk meeting on 10/6 included a discussion of the
budget process. There are two different types of budget requests: one-time funding and
recurring. Everything we do must somehow be aligned with the Strategic Plan, including
both types of budget item requests.
- Recurring funds - not much money anticipated (2.4 mil) so they’re looking for
the“best” proposals from each area. Items for the SOE proposal will be discussed
at next EXCO meeting.
- One-time funding: 1.1 million in funding. Most of the proposals submitted seem
backed into the Strategic Plan. SoE requested another lab space with a sink for
Old Main.
b. Community Outreach - SOE doing a lot of community outreach:
- Multi-Cultural Conference
- Monticello 5th
graders coming to campus to provide exposure to the idea of
Higher Education.
- Newburgh Armory- starting fieldwork at Armory
- Let’s Get Ready partnership
- STEP
- Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers
- Saturday Arts Lab
c. New Program Issues - Backlog of new program proposals. Submitted proposals in May-
they’re still on campus, awaiting review. (MS for T + MEd) Dean’s office aware of the
problem and is working to resolve it.
d. Fieldwork - Has been problematic this semester. MSR has had several meetings with
related faculty/ staff and communication is improving- problem solving successful.
Working to make sure these issues don’t happen again.
e. Open House 10/25 - Highlight Teachlive. Tours at 11:00 and 1:00.
f. Untenured Faculty Meeting – We are scheduling a meeting for untenured faculty. Faculty
in their first few years face different difficulties than those approaching tenure. Two
different meetings a possibility.
g. TeachNY - New initiative from the chancellor; funding comes from RTT money. They’re
tasked with looking at teacher preparation. MSR is on the advisory board, which met in
NYC in September. Chancellor and commissioner both attended meeting.
h. Institutional Profile - Looks at each teacher education school and collects and releases
data. Data is released to schools but not publicly. According to data they’ve sent, we
exceed statewide testing averages. MSR has hard copy if anyone wants to review the
report.
i. Proposed Teacher Prep Regulations U.S. DOE - New proposed regulations coming. MSR
has email to forward to chairs with details.
j. Update on Positions (MSR) - Lecturer line approved. Search committee’s first meeting
10/8. Autism position being discussed.

very intensive.

theatre presence. 2. Summer arts course- looking to build on that for this summer and it’s
being used as a recruitment tool. Art Ed graduates a higher number of students than other
programs nationally. In the midst of writing 3-yr plan for Provost.

in spring (TESOL) and fall (Literacy). G. Giordano will do his off-site review of the
materials at the end of October then will provide feedback in November. Preliminary
campus visit in January then the entire team will visit March 8-10. Sunny will be sending
details to faculty by the end of the week.
- LiveText- course catalog has been integrated with LiveText. Sunny can now upload
rubrics. Professors not limited to using LiveText assessments, they have to use those but
can also use others if they choose.

scheduled to take photos of classes in the upcoming weeks.
