The Media Department offers a range of courses that enable King John Students to express them-selves creatively and show their knowledge and understanding of media texts. In doing so they de-velop a range of diverse skills and produce work that is consistently of

an exceptional standard.

This year we have seen students product magazines, short films, screenplays, storyboard and pod-casts – the best of which is on dis-

play this evening. We have also included some ‘works in progress’ to exhibit the excellent work that is currently underway in years 10 and 12. Year upon year, King John students raise the bar of what was previously achieved and we wonder how they can possibly improve from this year. 2019 has been no exception and we look forward to what our young Crea-

tives will do next

The Media and film Department

Looking forward, the King John School values aspiration, celebrates success and strives to maximize potential. It is important that we acknowledge and celebrate students work from the broad range of creative subjects on offer within the curric-ulum at the King John School. I would really like to thank all of the students who have contributed to this showcase; it is a great opportunity for parents, students

and staff to appreciate the calibre and standard of work exhibited here.

It would be lovely to see you continue a career in one of these fields of study and

inspire future generations to be as successful. I really hope you enjoy the

evening.

The showcase is an excellent op-portunity to celebrate students’ successes in Art and Photography. Both the Art and Photograph De-partment are extremely proud of the students work on display. Those student selected have demonstrate a high level of skill and expertise in visual arts and they are a credit to the school. It goes without say-ing that the work selected demon-strates both commitment and a passion for the subjects and we

commend the efforts of each stu-

dent.

A number of year 13 students this year are going on to study High Education courses in order to pur-sue a career in the visual arts, we wish them every success for the

future!

The Year 11 DT /Textiles students fully embraced the investigative skills of the New GCSE course. The students developed their iterative design skills and were able to use customer feed-back and market research to inform their design ideas throughout the design context. The context enabled them to create their own briefs and design a prototype that answered the needs of the end user. Students showed progress with a wide range of skills and knowledge whilst work-ing with hard materials including Woods, Metals and Plastics as well as compliant materials, Textiles and Fabrics.Students developed their ability to pattern cut from industry

standard blocks or to create their own pattern pieces independently. They dyed and manipulated fabrics and used CAD/CAM to produce profes-sional outcomes such as laser cut straps, surface decoration and but-tons . Students worked exceptionally hard throughout the NEA and should

be incredibly proud of their work.

A number of our A level students are pursuing subject related university degree courses whilst others are seek-ing apprenticeships in this field of

work, we wish them all, every success.

The evening is to celebrate the students’ work in Design & Technology, Art, Media, Film and Photography. Our students have worked incredibly hard this year and have produced an

outstanding body of work and this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the students’ work giving credit they deserve beyond

the classroom.
