THE LORD’S DAY 10:55 AM January 27, 2008

The organ prelude is a call of consecration to worship the Living God. Let us prepare our hearts in reverence and silent prayer.

The Prelude ADAGIO Widor

The Call To Worship Psalm 32:1-2

The Hymn 2 O WORSHIP THE KING LYONS

The Prayer of Invocation and the Lord’s Prayer

The Confession of Faith The Apostles’ Creed (Hymnal-inside cover)

The Commandment Exodus 20:17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s

wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor

anything that is your neighbor’s.”

The Confession of Sin and Supplication for Grace Minister and People O Lord our God, we are reminded of the Divine purpose for the incarnation: that His name was called Jesus because He would save His people from their sins. We are grieved that our condition was so sinful that it required nothing less than the death of the Son of God. We mourn over our fallen natures and all our sins that proceed from it. We confess that in our flesh dwells no good thing. We have broken your commandments in thought, word, and deed. We have committed sins of omission and commission. We have been lazy over Heaven’s concerns and selfish over our own. Even in our best efforts we find pride and self. “ Wretched man that I am. Who will set me free from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” O Father, we thank You for His birth, His life, His death, His resurrection, and His ascension for sinners like us. In His redeeming name, we ask Your forgiveness and pardon. Amen.

The Scriptural Assurance of Pardon Jeremiah 31:33, 34 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know Me from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniq-uity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

The Offertory Anthem Ronald Kauffmann WE LIFT UP OUR HEARTS AND VOICES

We lift up our hearts and voices, in songs we rejoice, give thanks and sing! We lift

up our hearts and voices, to God our praise we bring. O clap your hands, ye people,

and shout unto God loud songs of joy, with trumpet, drums and cymbals, raise a

song to God on high. We lift up our hearts and voices, in songs we rejoice, give

thanks and sing! We lift up our hearts and voices, to God our praise we bring! God

reigns o’er all the nations, He reigns upon His throne. So raise your voices high in

triumph and sing this joyful song. We lift up our hearts and voices, in songs we re-

joice, give thanks and sing! We lift up our hearts and voices, to God our praise we

Dear Congregation,

What a joy it is to see the Lord working His grace in the hearts and lives of His people around the globe. What a privilege it is to share in that work. As we enter a new year, God has granted us many spiritual and financial blessings that we will be able to send to many lands and peoples. This year we will, by God’s grace, be supporting nearly 40 missionaries, agencies, and institutions in 12 countries. All of our missionaries, RUF pastors, and agencies have received a minimum increase of at least 4%, some much more, as we endeavor to become more financially, prayerfully and practically involved in building up of the Church.

Here are a few highlights: This year we have added two new RUF works, Tim Udouj (Furman) and David Osborne (Western Carolina). We also will dramatically increase our giving to Esaie Etienne as he makes final plans to begin a new MTW work in Gonaives, Haiti. Lord willing he will be on the field this spring! Other no-table changes are the inclusion of two new teaching ministries: The Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals and Ligonier Ministries. We are also happy to include Greenville Rescue Mission as one of the local mercy ministries we support.

Of course none of this will be possible without the faithful giving of God’s people to the over-all budget this year. Please remember to pray for all of our mis-sionaries and agencies. Remember that they need our faithful, monthly, financial support as God meets their needs. Pray also for God to bless Second Church as she remains faithful to the Great Commission, remembering to go to all the world preaching, making disciples, baptizing and ministering to the needs of the saints.

Second Presbyterian Church is planning to send 4 or more short-term mission teams this year to support the missions work in the United States and sev-eral foreign countries. Summer mission teams have proved a benefit to the Church of Jesus Christ in a variety of ways: 1) to encourage and help the mission churches and the pastors and missionaries that labor there, 2) to build relationships between our church and our sister churches in these countries, 3) to give our church mem-bers, especially our youth and young adults, first-hand experience in missions work, 4) to help and encourage us to pray more regularly and pointedly for missions and our sister churches, 5) to encourage some of our young people to consider mission work as their life vocation, and 6) to increase our giving to evangelism and mis-sions.

Here are the summer mission works that we plan to assist in the year 2008:

Haiti Our Lord brought a missionary to our door in 1995 when Charles Amicy, a Hai-tian, came to Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and started attending our church. The Lord had converted Charles when he was 12 and gave him a de-sire to plant churches in Haiti. Charles started doing that very thing even while he was still in Greenville. Charles’ work now involves five churches and five Chris-tian schools and soon, Lord willing, will include an orphanage and a sixth church and school. We plan to go and assist Charles and his team in construction, in evangelism, and in teaching/preaching. We also have another missionary in Haiti, Esaie Etienne. He and his family plan to live and work in Gunaive, about two hours north of where Charles lives. He is doing seminary training and church planting there.

Peru

Alonzo Ramirez, a native Peruvian, was converted about 25 years ago and even-tually came to the USA to further his theological training at Reformed Theologi-cal Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. The Lord put it on Alonzo’s heart to revital-ize the Dutch and Scottish churches in Peru that languished after the missionaries left. He recruited several Presbyterian ministers and deacons to assist him. After about 10 years the work there now includes numerous churches, Christian schools, a seminary, translation work, publication work, campus ministries, adult outreach through language studies, a variety of diaconal works, and community works. Our team will assist in neighborhood outreach, construction (or demoli-tion!!), teaching, and preaching.

Wales

A little over 100 years ago the small nation of Wales experienced one of the great Revivals in church history. Now unfortunately, very little remains of the evangeli-cal influence of that great out-pouring of the Spirit. One of our former interns, Todd Matocha (and his wife Kathyryn and their three boys) has been called by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of England and Wales to work in Cardiff, Wales. We send summer teams to support their local outreach through door-to-door evangelism and children’s Bible clubs.

Hartsville, SC

The Lord called David McIntosh, former assistant pastor at Woodruff Road PCA, to plant a PCA church in the PeeDee in Hartsville. One of our families, the Greg-ory Lesley family, moved there last year and joined the church plant. We plan to assist this new church with outreach through door-to-door visitation and chil-dren’s Bible clubs.

Costa Rica

For 12 years we have supported the work of June Gallman in Costa Rica, primar-ily to the women in prison. She has asked us to come and help her church learn how to do door-to-door evangelism and possible do some theological training.

Please prayerfully consider whether the Lord is calling you to go

or to support the Summer Mission work by prayers and/or giving.

The Creation Study Group will present Genetics and Genesis, featuring Dr. Robert Carter, on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 7:30 pm in the church sanc-tuary. The book table will be open at 7:00 pm. Dr. Carter has a B.S. in Ap-plied Biology from Georgia Institute of Technology, PhD in Marine Biology from the University of Miami, and a grateful contributor to Creation Maga-zine/Journal of Creation. In presenting his research on human genetics, Dr. Carter demonstrates how Christians can use this branch of science in discus-sions with friends and family to reinforce the truths of Genesis and creation. Come hear how chromosomes and mitochondria speak of the fall, the flood and the fragmentation of mankind.

Dear Second Presbyterian Church Family,

We want to thank each of you for the support we received before, during,

and after our miscarriage in November. We have experienced such love and caring

from you all and appreciate it very much. While the loss still weighs on our

hearts, and no doubt probably always will to some greater or lesser degree, we are

happy to be back to church and wish for God to bless each of you who cared

enough to make a call, write a letter, make a meal, and especially those who lifted

us up in prayer.

Sincerely,

Marcus and Beth Laughter
