Why has the burglary rate and home invasion rate dropped so much over the last few decades? It's because we have developed better security and better ways of staying safe from this activity. Our homes are now more secure than ever, but isn't it how secured you as the home user makes it and not just the devices in use? Of course it is it all starts with you the resident. There is no security that can operate and do what it is designed to do without the hands on of a human. When your home is secure from danger you are the reason, if you do not simply make use of simple security such as door locks then the door locks alone will not help you. Just the same with the big security systems we can get for our homes, if you don't turn them on they are useless. So just how secure is your home right now?

Around certain times of the year there are more home invasions and these times seem to stand around the holidays. That is because people are more in need for cash and items for gifts. So

that time of year would be a good time to be more vigilant with your home and items. But all year long you are in charge of making sure the criminal element stays outside and away from your family.

There are some simple measures you can take to ensure your family is safe from any threats of burglary or invasion. Every door and window these days come with locks of some sort. That is where it all starts; always make sure you lock the locks provided. When you are going out of your home and will not be within close proximity, make sure you double check all the doors and windows before leaving.

When you go to sleep at night make sure you do the same, check the locks on all windows and doors. Sometimes a window will shut and the lock will not engage properly, especially on well-worn homes. By trying to lift the window instead of just visually looking at the lock you can notice things usually missed.

Same with the doors, there is always that chance something during the course of the day got in the doors path that can hinder proper door operation. Pull on the door after it is locked to make sure the lock is well seated. If you have a home security system make sure you know all about it, read the manual and get familiar with its lights and what they mean. Sometimes you may be tired and miss read a symbol such as the lights on the keypad.

The tips above also applies on your holiday house if you own one. Holiday houses are prone to burglary due to the absence of people staying on the property. That is why aside from hiring someone who will look into your holiday house occasionally, it is imperative that you should invest on home security systems. This way you will be at ease that your property is safe and sound.

With a home security system there are statistics that say, “Most

home invasions happen because the alarm system just wasn’t

turned on”. This is very sad but at the same time good news,

because burglars will avoid a home that is outfitted with an alarm.

So if you have it, use it!
