VANDERBIJLPARK. - Two members of-Members of Umkhonto we Sizwe MilitaryVeterans Association (MKMVA) distancedthemselves from accusations that they tookpart in the invasion of RDP houses in GoldenGardens recently.Michael ‘Shakes’ Matsaneng said he and

other MK members were attacked and as-saulted by members of the community forno apparent reason on May 17. Matsanengsaid he was hit on the mouth with a firearm.“As I was running, Ward Councillor

Mthuzimele Sikulula pulled out a firearmand shot me in the leg.”“ If indeed the MKs wanted to invade the

houses, where were the security officers?”he asked.Spilling the beans, Matsaneng said about

90% of the houses in Golden Gardens areillegally occupied by people from Transkeiand other parts of the country.

Matsaneng said the occupants werebrought there with the help of the Wardcouncillor.“We were disappointed when Mayor

Hlongwane said we deserved this kind of pu-nishment,” said Matsaneng.Ramotsidise ‘Ram” Tau, a member of the

MK, also dismissed allegations that they in-

vaded the houses: “We went there to identifythe houses as per resolution taken by theANC in Polokwane. It stated that MKs must be given ten hou-

ses in every new section built.“We are disciplined, loyal members of the

ANC. We won’t take houses illegally andnever marked the houses.”Tau said they suspect the houses were

marked after they were assaulted.Asked why the regional chairperson of

MK Daddy Thinane had distanced himselffrom what they had done, Tau said, “Don’tmention that one.”He adds that since being assaulted, both

ANC regional secretary Bob Mthembu andEmfuleni Local MunicipalitySafety MMCVelly Mcera haved never bothered to inves-tigate the matter:“This shows that we have leaders who

want to see blood shed in the community.Emfuleni employee, Benny, should be lau-ded as a hero for saving our lives,” they con-cluded.

SHARPEVILLE.-With the increased use of fi-replaces and home heating systems during thewinter months, families need to take properprecautions to prevent dangerous fire situati-ons. This comes after Lehlonoholo Tsotetsi (5)lost his life recently after their shack burneddown in Tshepiso Phase 3. It is alleged by thegrandfather that he left the children at a firepla-ce inside the house and went to bed early. Tha-bang (8), Dipolelo (11) and Lehlohonolo appa-

rently stayed awhile as they were still cold. The grandfather, LetsekaMokoena says fla-

mes woke him up at dawn. As he tried to getall the children to safety the little one remainedinside the house. After they realised that theboy was still inside, Dipolelo says she ran intothe house to try and get him out.As they were on their way out the boy ran

back into the bedroom and covered his headwith a blanket out of fear. The grandfather raninside and found the little boy lying in bed, but

itwas already too late as the smokehe had inha-led was too much for him to handle. He wascertified dead on the scene by paramedics. Let-sekaMokoena (43) says, “This is a very painfulsituation for me to handle.“I never imagined that I would lose my

grandchild through smoke. He was a verycheerful boy who always asked me for a R1to buy bunny-chow and now he is gone”.The grandfather could not hold back his te-

ars as he was telling the sad tale. The youngboy’s 22-year-old mother was in Ficksburg,Free State, visiting relatives when the incidenthappened. The family is already challengedwith poverty and, to top it all they lost theirclothing and blankets to the fire.

SHARPEVILLE. - Seniors were staged tocompete in a beauty pageant on Friday at theSharpeville Hall where Gogo Molefe andJohn Tladi clinched the prize as Vaal Seniors‘Bold and Beautiful.’The competition was organised by Tshidi

Selematsela from correctional services. Sheorganised seniors from different centres - thelikes of Vaal Echos, Vaal Angels of Abantu,Kgopolang, Bokamoso Ba Setchaba, Tshwa-rang Lere and Ntate-Nhlomele.These elders had to be older than 70 to qua-

lify to be among the finalists. The hall waspacked by community members who sharedthe same sentiments with the elders. Accor-ding to some elders, they are happy with suchinitiative. “Democracy came in handy for us,though I could do this as a young boy; butit is by God’s grace that I am now competingon the highest stage of them all,” said the win-ner of the Male Counterpart, Tladi.“There are many things our children and

grandchildren could do, rather than commit-ting crime and ending up in jail. They haveto learn to respect their elders and stop abu-sing their rights. Mandela worked so hard tofree us,” said the queen, Molefe.Selematsela said, “I just had a vision to ho-

nour the community and elderly people aboutthe freedom to express themselves rather thanbeing abused. This was to encourage, supportand show love for our elders.”The pageant had a question and answer ses-

sion inwhich elders had to answer democratichistorical questions about the Vaal and therest of the country.

SEBOKENG. - As prayers are said all overthe world, suspected BokoHaram gunmen re-cently abducted 20 more women in Nigeria. The hashtag ‘Bring back our girls’ has be-

come popular over the past months, with peo-ple worldwide rallying to urge the Boko Ha-ram extremists to bring back more than 200girls abducted on April 16.It seems that new words are added to the

plea, as people have added words such as ‘sa-fely’ and ‘alive’ as it is not known what theirconditions are.The women of the United Reformed

Church (URC), Evaton Circuit, last weekmarched the streets of Zone 14 in song, askingfor the girls’ safe return. A powerful prayersession followed, especially dedicated topraying for their safe return.Held by a woman, one placard read: “My

girl - Your girl. Act like real brothers and fa-thers; bring them back unharmed.”Reverend Mmabatho Bikitsha says, “We

think it is important to support Nigeriathrough this tough time by joining the ‘Bring

back our girls’ movement.“As women who have brought children in-

to the world, we understand the pain that hasbefallen those women whose kids were ab-ducted in Nigeria. Not knowing where theirgirls are, whether they are safe or whether

they have been harmed.”Reverend Mirriam Tladi says, “Nobody

knows what those girls are going through: ifthey are being fed, raped or even killed. Allwe are doing is just praying for their safe re-turn.”

The news that came in on Tuesday morningthat suspected Boko Haram militants haveagain abducted at least 20 other women closeto where 200-and-something schoolgirls we-re kidnapped in northern Nigeria is indeedhorrifying. The women were apparently loa-ded onto vans at gunpoint and driven awayto an unknown location.

If Boko Haram sees their war against theirgovernment as not being fruitful and thatthey cannot win it, they should try other me-ans and stop harassing their ‘girl children’and women.

That the army has also not commented onthe recent kidnap also shows the lax way inwhich the Nigerian government is willing to

respond to the situation. It all goes back toshowing that the rights of women are stillnot respected in this day and age. It’s veryimportant to respect a woman, but we tendto forget that. It is very important that parentsshould teach their sons to be courteous to-wards women. A boy will treat a woman theexact same way that his father does. Educa-tion starts at home, and they (parents) playan important role.

We must raise boys and girls to value eachother, and view each other as equal.

I think that parenting should be equal sothat children see what shared partnershiplooks like. Gender inequities must be chal-lenged, and women and girls must have trueequality.

Challenging the rape culture that is rifein our very own country should not be onthe shoulders of an individual person only, but a shared responsibility of everyone in-

volved. We cannot tolerate this violence aswe currently do. We have to hold ourselvesaccountable to doing this hard work, bothwithin and outside the criminal legal system, through intersections and inclusive approa-ches.

The Nigerian army has rightfully been cri-ticised for failing to stop the militant attacks;they are the last line of defence for the Nige-rian people yet they largely are inactive oreven absent, allowing Boko Haram militantsto continue their attacks.

This should be put to a stop. The grouphas waged an increasingly bloody insurgen-cy since 2009 and thousands of people havedied in their attacks and the subsequent secu-rity crackdown.

Certainly not all men, when refused theirpatriarchal dividend, take retribution againstwomen as a class. But when mental illness, access to guns, bullying, and a culture of mi-

sogyny come together in the life of troubledindividuals the combination can be lethal.

Ending male violence against women me-ans changing societal norms, attitudes, andperceptions - for both men and women. Wemust continue to increase equality and decre-ase the marginalisation of women.

At the same time, we must find new waysto raise boys and young men - ways that en-courage them to respect and accept their ownand others’ vulnerabilities.

If we are serious as a culture about preven-ting future atrocities, we need to change theway we socialise boys and men.

And we will need to dismantle a culturethat routinely treats women and girls as sex-ual objects and targets of real and virtual vio-lence. This should be put to a halt. Let ussupport the campaign, # Bring back ourgirls!

What is eating the Sedibeng region? ShootingFrom The Hip asks this question because the-re was no Safa Sedibeng representative whenBanyana Banyana arrived last Wednesday toprepare their international friendly matchagainst Botswana at Isak Steyl Stadium overthe weekend. There was no Safa Sedibeng representati-

ve to welcome the team. Shooting From Hipfound himself having to answer some aw-kward questions from those who accompa-nied Banyana Banyana. What is eating this region? My disappointment doesn’t end there. On

the day of the match, Safa Sedibeng Presi-dent Xolani Mtumtum was sitting at thegrand stand and not in the VIP area. Whatis going on in this region as far as footballis concerned? Maybe football administratorsare happywith our football being run by poli-ticians. If that is the case, Shooting From TheHip would rather be Safa President. Insteadour football is run by politicians. Excuse me,president my foot! The truth is that I don’tneed to campaign because the very peoplewho campaigned to convince others they we-re the right candidates have destroyed ourfootball.Even EmfuleniMunicipalMayor Council-

lor Gretha Hlongwane was taken aback bythe situation. But Shooting From The Hipwants to believe that the mayor was not sur-prised by this because she is aware of thepower struggle in our local football.

She is well informed about football poli-tics in this region and maybe, one way orthe other, she expected this from local foot-ball administrators. The question is: was SafaSedibeng aware of the game in the first pla-ce? If not, who is to be blamed for this situati-on - because Shooting From The Hip is awarethat this region is represented in the women’sfootball committee. The truth of matter is that: This region is

sick, very sick and tired of the fact that foot-ball in this region has been treated like`bull@#$*’. It’s high time real football peo-ple stood up and took charge. By this I meanpeople with football knowledge and thatdoesn’t mean that if you play football at thehighest level you will automatically be thefirst choice. We need people with education like Ntate

Molefi Oliphant. The man was the most edu-

cated football administrator to have come in-to this region. Until now, we have simply ap-pointed or elected people without any educa-tional background; hence, we find ourselvesin this mess.We need people who will go out there, ne-

gotiate for sponsorships - not just any ‘nobo-dy.’ Come on somebody! Let’s put our egosaside for the sake of these children. If youdon’t know, just get out of our way and leavefootball people to run football affairs. What happened last week is disgusting -

not give Banyana Banyana a proper welco-me.We are a disgrace, an embarrassment to

our children. We don’t lead by example, butby our egos. We allow our egos to go to ourheads. We talk but fail to translate our wordsinto action! Can somebody just SHUT UPfor good?

VEREENIGING. - New ‘baby on the-block’Arcon Park Primary School will represent Se-dibeng in the Danone Provincial u/12 Play-Offs scheduled to take place at WU ClementsStadium inMidrand, Johannesburg, on Satur-day. This Vereeniging-based school achievedthis feat after beating all Sedibeng primaryschools in their cluster and regional playoffs.Tomake it interesting, this was the school’s

first appearance in the competition and nowthey will represent Sedibeng in ProvincialPlay-Offs. School Coach Mohapi Mofokengsays this is unbelievable, taking into conside-ration that it was their debut in the competiti-on: “This is a great achievement for the schoolbecause we are new in this tournament, butlook where we are now. Even now I can’t be-lieve that we will be representing Sedibeng

in this tournament. All of us here at schoolare stunned by this achievement. We can’t be-lieve that our school will go out there to repre-sent the people of Sedibeng. I want to thankthe school principal and teachers for their sup-port,” he says. The school is affiliated to SafaSedibeng Junior League and registered as Ri-sing Stars FC. Mofokeng says the league hashelped the school to achieve this victory. Hesays playing competitive games every wee-kend helped them a lot. His sentiments wereechoed by his co-coach Lucky Kgaole, whoalso believes the school’s success was a teameffort. Kgaole says they are ready to makeSedibeng proud in the tournament: “It mightbe our first appearance in the competition butthis doesn’t meanwewill be push-overs comeSaturday. We will not be there to add num-bers, but to compete. I have no doubt that the-

se boys will make us proud. The only thingwe ask from Sedibeng people is their support.Yes, they might not be there physically, butspiritually they will be with us,” he conclu-

des. Meanwhile Banyana Bayana triumphedover Botswana (4-0) at the Isak Steyl Stadiumin Vanderbijlpark on Saturday in a match thatwas a one way traffic. The match was Banya-

na’s preparations forthe 2014 AfricanWomen Champions-hip, AWC.

I was a bit sceptical about it at first but I finally discovered the truth.Rehamt is really God sent to us!! My entire family and I couldn’t believeit at first but after I paid for the magic ring & wallet, he performed thecleansing rituals which made me win the lotto. I am a widow who lostmy husband 15 years ago after he got an accident on a freeway.

The business my husband left went down, houses were taken by hisfamily because I had no children with him. My life turned upside down

with no one to turn to. I thought of terminating my life but I had my family to think of. I was even chased out ofmy husband’s house by his brother and I ended up renting premises which made life became so hard for me.

Then my mother came with an article talking about Cedric’s magic ring and magic wallet. We were doubting itat first but later wanted to give it a try. I booked an appointment, and then we met Cedric , he charged us forthe ring and magic wallet then performed special prayers for us. I took the ring home, had a bath with it andprayed , it was on Saturday when we played the lotto & casino and were so surprised to see the numbers; Iwon R 4 million, I was so happy.

Thanks Rehamt, now I bought a new lovely home and my business is back again. We are soon going to Parisfor a holiday with my family . cedric you have brought ever-lasting happiness to my life, Ican’t stop tellingpeople about you. he also helps people – financial Problems – Love relationships – work crisis –family Problems – bad Luck – health Problems and many more
