Adaptive reuse of the existing Macleay Museum proposing a large canopy intersecting the building and landscape. The canopy cantilevers over the entry plane reflecting the movement of people through the museum.

The spiral ramp sweeps visitors to the galleries above and archive below winding back and forth through the museum.Large curtains divide the gallery and exhibition spaces to provide flexibility and porosity throughout the museum.

The archive animates a clash of people and objects in a forest of columns that pierce through the landscape in to the public domain.

The project was for the all ready existing extension to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery. For this project we produced 24 construction drawings, specifications,

schedules and cost control for the building project showing an ability to communicate this documentation to clients, statutory authorities, consultants, tenderers, contractors and sub-contractors.

In collaboration with Courtney Owen, Vi Lee, Zoya Kuptsova and Kim Lange

This project was entered as part of the Evolo Skyscraper competition and proposed the terraformation of infertile land in central Australia. Through its capacity to seed clouds the

vast structure enables the water within lake eyre to be retained permanently.Digital tools including rhino and grasshopper where used to develop the tensile structure.

In collaboration with Emma Mackeller

Structure:The city is conceived as a singular structure- a physical manifestation of the conceptual ideal of a city that is ‘self supporting.’

The cloud seeding tower must be 600 metres tall in order for the air collumn to affect the troposphere . This height is enabled by percieving the structure like a suspension bridge. enabled by percieving the structure like a suspension bridge. The large central pylon is in compresion while cables allow the bridge to be suspended. The entire city acts in tension- its form generated by efficient membrane structures exempliied in Frei- Otto’s Olympic stadium in Munich.

Vertical City:Existing modes of urban densiication cause desertiication. Natural vegetation prevents the nutrient rich bio-diverse top-soil from eroding. As demand on agricultural regions in-creases, this vegetatiation is removed.

By concieving the city as vertical rather than horizontal it is By concieving the city as vertical rather than horizontal it is possible to mitigate desertiication. Greater efficiency in transort and land usage also result.

When urban and agricultural land is integrated, the city unit can become independant of external supply. It can expand limitlessly without affecting its efficiency. =

Macdonald Street Erskineville ExtensionProfessional Practice

Tutor | Paul Berkemeire2013

An extension to an existing townhouse in Erskineville for a client with a large family was designed and documented as part of the professional practice course at Sydney University. All Development application drawing were produced

including specifications, schedules, statement of environmental effects, BASIXS and relevant paperwork in order to be submitted to the council. Mock client and council meeting were set up with objections and amendment documents

having to be addressed in order to progress the project to tender.

Student HousingMasters Sustainable Research Studio

Tutor | Paul Berkemeire2013

There is a desperate need for additional student housing at the University of Sydney. This project is aimed at maximising the number of students housed whilst minimising the cost of housing to the students. The project is built on a small left over site on campus, the roof of the electrical engineering building, to reduce costs and re-adapt an existing building. The building creates a rich and sustainable living environment for

students through passive design principals such as solar access, ventilation, thermal mass, water harvesting and power generation. In collaboration with Mark Szekely

Flinders Street StationDesign Competition

The central location of the Flinders Street Station site made it a desirable location for a cultural precinct which included an Opera House. The Opera House has been integrated in to the existing Banana Ally Vaults which are used for performances and events. The site has been linked to the cultural precinct on Southbank creating additional connections over the Yarra River. The landscape has been folded to create a sense of intrigue for the

visitors and to form pocket spaces for the train station and performance venues.
