The AZPL just held their 28th consecutive Championship Tournament this past weekend at Stinger’s Sports Bar in Glendale and what a great time it was! Starting in 15th, Captain Curtis Elifritz, Kent Bybee & Art Armijo of Ginsu Knife sliced through the competition go-ing 10-1 including defeating the #1 seed team of Cliff Seaton, Miguel Topete & Chris Negrin of Balls & Shaft twice to capture the title! Starting at 1pm Ginsu defeated Raider’s Eighters 76-54 before losing to 3x former Champion Shoot the Moon 72-62. The loss sent Ginsu to the loser’s side to then face the Black Shirts, Hit em Hard and reigning Champion Paper Weights, defeating them all to close out their Saturday competition. Returning on Sunday at 10am they faced Shoot the Moon, who they lost to yesterday. This time Curtis led the way with a 31, hitting an 8-ball break in the opening round and Art Armijo do-ing the same in the 3rd round, both against Lisa Bradford! They won 77-50! They defeated their next opponent Doc’s Gang, led by league MVP Doc Rogers, 70-50. In that match Art started out with a 10-1 win and they never looked back. In their next match they defeated the 5 Que Studs 71-58, leaving the Studs in 4th Place. Up next were the Bus Boys. Robin Clark cleared the tables but his 30 wasn’t enough to overcome the Knives as they held Chris & Derek to a com-bined 34 points to win 71-64 putting them into the Championship Game! Coming through the loser’s side they had to defeat Balls and Shaft twice to bring home the Championship! In the first match Chris Negrin defeated Art 10-6 to take the lead. By his next game they were down 26-14. After winning again, defeating Curtis 10-4, the score was 30-24. The Knives then sliced through the next two players going on a 20-2 run to take a 50-26 lead. This time it was Kent who led the way defeating Chris 10-4 to com-plete his 1st 30 of the tournament and sealing a 60-30 7-game win to give Balls & Shaft their 1st loss. In the rematch it was tied up at 16 after two games. Then Curtis beat Cliff 10-0 to give them the lead and they never looked back! In the 2nd round Balls and Shaft outscored Ginsu 27-22 to pull within 5 points. Art led the way in the 3rd round, defeating Cliff 10-3 followed by Kent defeating Chris 10-5 to give Ginsu Knife the Championship by a score of 68-51 in what could be Curtis Elifritz’s last game in the AZPL. If that’s the case, he’ll go out on top as AZPL Champion! Good luck in Colorado Cur-tis! Thanks for everything you’ve done for the league! Congratulations to Championship MVP Art Armijo, Kent Bybee & Ginsu Knife team captain Curtis Elifritz! They are the AZPL Sum-mer State Champions!!

The fun began at Stinger’s Sports Bar & Grill on Friday night at 8pm with three special events. The first was the 8-Ball Break & Run Derby!

Nine players competed in the event with Miguel Topete coming out victo-rious! In the 2nd round Derek Deffner set a new record with 45 points In one round to give him an eventual 55 points for the All Time High Score! Derek took 2nd in the final round with Cliff Seaton finishing in 3rd.

The second event was the Top 16 MVP Tournament! Robert Berry defeated a full field of 16 to win the MVP trophy, $120 in cash and a free season in the league! Robert went undefeated, beating Cliff Seaton, TJ Sprott, Darren Bradford, Robin Clark, Eugene Hemphill & Robin Clark again for the win! Robin finished in 2nd with $80 and Eugene took 3rd for $40.

And the final event was the Open Singles Tournament! 21 people competed in a double elimination tourna-ment with Art Armijo finishing 1st and teammate Kent Bybee finishing 2nd. Should have been a sign of things to come! Eric Danielson Sr finished 3rd! Stinger’s also added to the pot to pay out 1st $60, 2nd $40 and 3rd $20! The Top 3 females in the tournament were Sandra Danielson who finished 3rd, Nadine Morales who took 2nd and Dawn Atokuku closed them out for 1stPlace, the Women’s MVP Trophy and a free season in the league!

On Saturday the fun at Stinger’s began with four teams opening up the 9am round! Six more teams began play at 11am with the full field playing by 1pm! Starting at 11am the team of Michael Santopadre, Chad Hibbard & Michael Kerin from 5 Que Studs played their first match Vs. Raider’s Eighters with Duane Hostetler, Scott Mattson & Cal McDowell. After 2 rounds the match was within a point but Scott Mattson nailed an 8-ball break to send the Studs to the loser’s bracket by a score of 73-60. The Studs then went on a 7-match winning streak defeating Jester’s Jesters, Four Kings, Balls in Hand, Liars & Cheaters and Breaking Bad to close out Saturday’s play. On Sunday they returned to face

Raider’s Eighters. After avenging their first loss with a 62-46 win in which no player scored more than 23 they went on to defeat Elks No. 2 74-55. The win set up the next match Vs. Ginsu Knife and well…. We know how that story ends. Art Armijo went 23-12 for Ginsu Knife to win the State Cham-pionship MVP Award!

APA Phoenix Metro held its session ending Captains tournament on July 29th at Main Street Billiards. Some of the best players in the APA turned out to compete in this highly

popular tournament that showcases the talents of some of our best players. The competition was very keen and all the players participating gave their best games. Gina Nowlin, the tournament director and League operator for APA here in Phoenix, said this is the fastest growing tourna-ment in the area with the field up to 45 players this time around. This tournament was created to show apprecia-tion to the players who have taken on the respon-sibility of captaining a team for the APA pool league. We just wanted to give them something special for their hard work, Gina said.

The tournament is a double elimination single 8 ball event held at the end of each of the 3 ses-sions of regular league play each year. It is a race to handicap levels so anyone can win the tourna-ment no matter what their skill level is. Team captains are invited to play, and can designate someone on their team to represent them if they cannot make it. Winners receive cash and a traveling trophy that they keep until the next tournament. They also have their name added to a plaque that hangs on the wall at Main Street Billiards.

Brad Andrews stayed on the winner’s side of the board throughout the tournament and ultimately won 1st place, $275 and the traveling trophy that goes with the win. He will also have his name engraved on a plaque at Main Street Billiards. He played great pool taking down some of the

best players out there. We would like to congratulate Brad on his victory and the sportsmanship in which he showed in his matches. He’s a great competitor.

Second place went to Joe Shipley along with $175 cash. Joe is the perfect example that you do not have to be the best player to win in the APA. He is a skill level 4 player and thanks to the handicap system he was able to pull off the 2nd place win.

Third place went to Charlie Mills with $100 cash. Roselyn Parks took 4th place and Joe Mulhall and Mike Michaels shared 5th place.

Jeremy Zastrow, who won the very 1st tournament in this series, made a good showing to defend his trophy but came up a little short.

Congratulations to all the participants. It was a great tournament and we look forward to the next session’s tournament. Each one gets better.

Kolby’s Corner Pocket Billiards in Tempe wel-comed a full fi eld of 32 players for their 8’s & Under event on August 5th; and Sammy Marti-nez welcomed the rest of the fi eld to try to stop him in this event.

With $500 in added money, the fi eld was sure to fi ll with big guns, and that was defi nitely the case with notables such as Jason Polk, Ed Scott, Lenny Marshall, Mike Hamman, Susan Williams and Ken Gouso in attendance.

The fi nal four players on Sunday were Sammy Martinez vs Tucson’s Mike Hamman on the win-ners side, and Susan Wilbur vs Ken Gouso on the left side of the board.

The match for the hot-seat started out close with neither player able to secure more than a one rack lead up to the score of 3-3. Martinez was fi -nally able to take the lead at 5-3 and then pushed that lead to 6-3 before Hamman fought back to within one rack at 6-5. That would be as far as Hamman would go though, as Martinez won the next two racks for the 8-5 victory, sending Mike to the one loss side to wait for the winner be-tween Wilbur and Gouso.

Wilbur and Gouso had taken very different routes to their match on the one loss side. Ken had lost his fi rst match of the event to Thor Sk-ogan, but fought back with six straight wins on the one loss side. Meanwhile, Susan had stayed on the right side of the board until a late Sunday loss to Mike Hamman, which she followed up with a win over Ed Gonzalez.

The one loss side match saw Wilbur pressure Gouso into a couple of early mistakes, and she was more than happy to take full advantage. By

the time the dust settled, Gouso was being awarded 4th place and Susan was get-ting ready to face Ham-man in the semi-fi nals.

Susan and Mike trad-ed games over the fi rst six racks, with Susan able to grab one rack leads at 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before Mike tied the match at 3-3. Hamman took his fi rst lead of the match at 4-3, only to see Susan tie things up at 4-4. Hamman took the fi rst two rack lead of the match at 6-4 and then cruised to an 8-5 win to set up the rematch with Martinez in the fi nals.

Martinez raced to an early 5-1 lead in the fi rst set of the true double elimination fi nals, only to get a little sloppy and let Hamman back into the match. A missed 9-ball in the seventh rack was all Hamman needed to get a little run going of his own and he clawed back to within a rack at 5-4. The three rack run by Hamman looked to have gotten Martinez’s attention as he kept Hamman in the chair for the majority of the remaining racks. Marti

nez won three of the the next four racks for the 8-5 win and fi rst place in the event.

Final Payouts:1st Sammy Martinez $8202nd Mike Hamman $4503rd Susan Wilbur $1504th Ken Gouso $805th Ed Gonzalez $405th Todd Dilley $407th Bill Burton $257th Adam Flores $25

The Desert Classic Tour held their Arizona State One Pocket Championship at Kolby’s (where else?) with a field of twenty nine players on Au-gust 18-19. As could have been predicted before play began, the tournament quickly became a field of twenty eight players trying to beat Scott Frost.

Frost was one of the four players to remain unde-feated on Saturday, along with Bobby Emmons, Gus Briseno and Mitch Ellerman. The biggest difference in the four players was that Frost not only won every match he played on Saturday; he won every game.

The unthinkable happened when play resumed on Sunday and Bobby Emmons was finally able to win a game against Frost. Unfortunately for Emmons, the match was a race to three and Frost would win the match 3-1. In the other winners side match, Gus Briseno sent Mitch Ellerman to the left side of the board with a 3-1 scoreline.

On the one loss side, Bernie Pettipiece eliminat-ed Dennis Orender 3-0 and Mike Pankoff ended Eric Young’s event with a 3-1 score. Orender and Young earned free entry into a DCT event of their choice.

Usually at the 5th/6th place part of a tournament, the players coming over from the winners side have an advantage over their opponents who are already on the one loss side. That was not the case in this event as Pettipiece went on to elimi-nate Emmons 3-1 and Pankoff defeated Ellerman 3-2. Emmons and Ellerman took home $100 in prize money for their 5th place finishes.

Next up on the one loss side was Bernie Pettip-iece vs Mike Pankoff and Pettipiece continued

his winning ways with a 3-1 win, forcing Pankoff to settle for $150 in 4th place prize money.

The match for the hot-seat saw Frost taking on Briseno and Frost got right back to his dominating ways in winning the match 3-0 and sending Briseno to take his chances against Pettipiece on the left side of the board.

Briseno came out and took charge of the semi-final match as he won the first two games and looked well on his way to a rematch with Frost. Pettipiece has been down 2-0 before though, and he was unphased as he came back to tie the match at 2-2. Briseno had the break in the final game and made a ball on the break, but was only able to pocket two balls before playing safe. As the match went on, Pettipiece took control and took the lead 7-3 in ball count - leaving Briseno needing every ball on the table to earn the win. Briseno made a valiant attempt, but Pettipiece finally won the game 8-5 to continue his undefeated ways on Sunday. Briseno would take home $250 for third place.

It seemed only fitting that the tournament would come down to a final extended match between Frost and Pet-tipiece as they have both shown they are two of the best one pocket players in the state.

Pettipiece came out strong in the first game and took an early 1-0 lead in the race to five. Frost kidded the crowd that he had told his backer he would let Bernie win the

first game. After Frost won the second game to tie the score, Bernie informed the crowd that he had told his backer he would let Scott win a couple too.

Frost would do just that, and win the next two games for a 3-1 lead before Pettipiece got back on the board at 3-2. Frost would be the first to the hill at 4-2 and Bernie would move another bead in his direction at 4-3, before Frost finally won the case game to earn the 5-3 victory and the state title.Frost won $760 for first place, while Pettipiece would settle for $450 in prize money for second place.

The Desert Classic Tour will be back in action on October 20th and 21nd playing Bar Table l0-Ball at Stingers in Phoenix.

Frost Wins State One Pocket Championship

Bernie Pettipiece and Scott Frost

Pat Dicker Wins Knobby’s OpenKnobby’s Open 8-Ball event on August 3rd drew a field of 22 players and featured some new names making deep runs into the event.

The winner’s side came down to Pat Dicker vs Jimmy Brewer. Both players had already made their way through tough matches just to get to this match. Dicker had wins over Troy Ridder, Andrew Durano and Jose Gonza-lez, while Brewer had defeated Ed Scott, Ray Ryan and Tyson Cole.

Brewer won the first game of the hot-seat match, but Dicker secured the next two games to take the hot-seat.

On the one loss side, the ladies were making some noise with “in the money” finishes from both Sophia Morquecho and Bev Corkus, who finished tied for fifth before losses to Gonzalez and Cole.

Tyson went on to defeat Jose and then eliminate Brewer 2-0, to set up a match between Tyson and Pat in the finals.

Tyson’s strong play on the one loss side did him no good in the finals, as Dicker won the first two games of the finals and captured first place in the event.

Complete Payouts:1st Pat Dicker $2002nd Tyson Cole $1103rd Jimmy Brewer $704th Jose Gonzalez $405th Sophia Morquecho $105th Bev Corkus $10

Preacher Ronn Almost Perfect at BullshootersThe July edition of Bullshooter’s One Pocket Madness event took place on July 7th with a smaller than usual field. Top players in the field on this day included Preacher Ronn Rutan, Eric Young, Lenny Marshall, Rod Elliott and Tres Kane.

Preacher Ronn, who has been on a tear lately, was showing everyone in atten-dance that he is a force to be reckoned with in these local one pocket events. He ran through Marshall, Jose Gonzalez, Elliott and Kane with a total game score of 8-0. The win over Kane gave Ronn the hot-seat and a spot in the finals.

On the left side of the board, Tres looked to have his hands full with Lenny Marshall. Marshall had lost his first match of the day to Rutan, but had come all the way through the one loss side and had his sights set on the finals and a chance for revenge against Rutan. That revenge would have to wait for another day though, as Tres eliminated Lenny 2-0.

The finals was an extended race to three between the undefeated Ronn Rutan and Tres Kane. Rutan got off to a great start and won the first two games for a record of 10-0 for the day. Tres wasn’t going to go away easily though and he snapped Ronn’s unbeaten streak in the third game of the set. Ronn regrouped and won the fourth game for the 3-1 match win and first place.

Ronn took home $200 for first place, while Tres settled for $120 in second place prize money. Lenny took home $50 for third place.

Teyechea Wins One Pocket MadnessBullshooters in Phoenix drew another full field of sixteen players to their One Pocket Madness event on August 11th and it was the player who drove the far-thest, who took the lion’s share of the prize money back home with him.

The winners side came down to Pete Lhotka and Lenny Marshall for the hot-seat, and the match could not have been closer as it came down to hill with both players needing the last ball before Lhotka pocketed the ball to win the match.

On the one loss side, Preacher Ronn was trying to keep his recent hot-streak alive as he faced off against Tucson’s George Teyechea. Ronn had lost a match to Paul Feltman Jr, while Teyechea had dropped a winners side match to Lenny.

Teyechea would get the better of Ronn on this day by the score of 2-1, and Ronn would have to settle for 4th place.

George went on to redeem his earlier loss to Lenny with a 2-0 decision, sending Lenny home in 3rd place and setting George up to face Pete in the finals.

The extended race to three final match would see Teyechea win the match 3-1 and take first place prize money back with him to Tucson.

Frost Wins Big in MobileWhile Arizona’s Scott Frost is mostly known for his one pocket game, he has shown over time that he can also play the rotation games pretty well too.

That was defi-nitely the case over the weekend of August 10th - 12th at Breakers Billiards in Mobile, Alabama. Frost dominated both parts of this annual barbox event.

To start things off, Frost won the $1,000 entry 10-man ring game. Players in this event were Frost, “LIL D”, Scooter, Gary Abood, Cliff Joyner, Warren Kiamco, Will Haggensen, Benny Conway Jr., Danny Smith & John Morra. Freezer’s win in this event netted him $5,000 in prize money, with John Morra and Warren Kiamco finishing second and third (pocketing $3,000 and $2,000).

Next up was the $10,000 guaranteed barbox 9-ball event, which was also won by Frost.

Frost showed his true “A game in his match against Filipino Warren Kiamco. From a tied score of 1-1, Frost came to the table and only allowed Kiamco out of the chair to rack for him. Frost ran the rack for 2-1 and then put a seven pack on Kiamco to win the match.

The final match came down to Frost and Tony Mougy. Mougy won the first match of the double elimination finals 9-3. but Frost came back and won the second match 9-8 to sweep the weekend’s events. This is only the second time that one player has won both events in the history of the tournament.

For the 9-ball win, Frost pocketed another $4,000 in prize money. Not bad for a weekend’s work.

Ellerman Top High RollerIn conjunction with the B & Under event at Stinger’s on August 11th and 12th, Tourna-ment Director Jerry Stuckart also held an eight player high rollers tournament. This event saw players of any rat-ing put up $200 entry, and possibly another $50 for the side pot, to race to their handicap in double elimination bar table 8-ball.

The fi eld for this event was a great one with Steve Glenn, Mitch Ellerman, John Smith, Bobby Emmons, Jack Scerca, Mike Williams, Nick De Leon and Mike Pankoff all taking their shot at the $1,200 grand prize.

The hot-seat came down to two of the valley’s top young guns, Mitch Eller-man and Nick De Leon. This match would not be De Leon’s fi nest hour as he struggled against the fi repower of Ellerman. Ellerman cruised to a 10-4 win and his place in the fi nals.

Ellerman’s opponent in the fi nals would be a familar face in the form of Steve Glenn. Glenn had lost his fi rst match in a close one against Ellerman, but had fought back through the fi eld to earn another shot at Ellerman in the fi nals.

Glenn lead most of the fi nal match as Ellerman couldn’t seem to get his big break to work for him in this one. Glenn took a three rack lead at 5-2 and held it for the next four racks. At 4-7 down, Ellerman found the break he had been looking for. Three racks later the match was tied at 7-7 and Ellerman was on a roll. Ellerman would win the next two racks to get to the hill fi rst at 9-7. Just as quickly as Ellerman found his break, it deserted him in the next rack as he broke dry and Glenn joined him on the hill at 9-8. Next it was Glenn’s turn to break dry and that was all the opportunity Ellerman needed to win the match 10-8.

With the side pot, the win was worth $1,450 for Ellerman. Glenn settled for $400 in second place prize money.

Mitch Ellerman and Steve Glenn

Stinger’s in Phoenix held their B’s & Under 8-Ball event over the weekend of August 11th and 12th. With a full fi eld of forty eight players, Dale at Stinger’s agreed to bump the $750 added prize money to a whopping $1.000 added. JR Burkhart would be the most appreciative of that change.

Burkhart navigated the winner’s side untouched with Jamie Cole matching him win for win until they faced off for the hot-seat.

Burkhart, who also won the DCT B/C event in July, came out strong in the hot-seat match and raced to a 3-0 lead. Cole then took the reins and won three games to tie the score at 3-3. Cole would take a one rack lead at 4-3, only to see Burkhart take a one rack lead at 5-4 and the score was fi nally knotted at 5-5 in the race to six games. Cole would break in the case game but nothing found a pocket and Burkhart had an open table in front of him. Burkhart would fail to get out, but Cole would give Burkhart another chance after a miss on Cole’s fi rst shot. That sec-ond chance was all Burkhart needed to capture the hot-seat at 6-5.

On the one loss side, Jamie found a familiar face waiting for him in the form of Jonathan Rowe. Jamie and Jonathan should be familiar with each other’s games as they have been league team-mates for many years.

Rowe has been an almost unstoppable force at Stinger’s lately, and he sure looked that way again in the semi-fi nal match as he raced out to a 5-1 lead. Rowe would have a chance to win the match in the next game, but was unable to get out and Cole cut the lead to 5-2. That would be the routine for the rest of the match as Rowe

would be unable to convert his chances at the table and Cole was more than happy to pounce on the open tables and continue his comeback. The players fi nally found themselves tied at hill-hill and again, Cole jumped on a chance at the table left by Rowe and ran out for the amazing 6-5 comeback win.

That long comeback might have taken everything that Cole had in the gas tank as he came out fl at in the fi nal match against Burkhart. Burkhart had won four games before Cole was able to move a bead above the table. The next game saw Burkhart get to the hill at 5-1, the same score that Jamie had faced in the last match before starting his comeback. Burkhart would have no talk of a comeback in this match, as he went ahead and won the next game for the 6-1 victory and fi rst place in the tournament.

Burkhart earned just over $1,000 in prize money for his win, while Cole settled for $560 in second place prize money. Leandrea Gaff was the proud wonner of the C & Below side pot and earned $60. Four other players were tied for second in the C & Below side pot.

All of the players expressed their thanks to Dale for adding the extra money to the tournament; especially Burkhart.

A field of 20 players made their way to Kitty’s on August 11th to fight it out for their share of the prize money at Kitty’s August 7’s & Under event.

Notables in the field for this one included Tom Lutz, Junior Salgado, George Bell, Leo Satterwhite, Dan Young and Johnny Garcia.

The match for the hot-seat saw Jeremy Gibbs run over Quinton Kilbride by the score of 7-2.

Waiting for Quinton on the one loss side was Johnny Garcia. Garcia had suf-fered his only loss of the day at the hands of Kilbride, and had made his way through George Bell, Joseph Farias, Tony Yuzuik and Tom Lutz for the chance to avenge the loss to Kilbride. That revenge would have to wait for another day though, as Quinton won the match 7-5 and Garcia settled for third place.

The double elimination final match between Gibbs and Kilbride was the exact opposite of their first meeting as Quinton took control of the match at 2-2 and won five straight games to capture the first set 7-2. With both players having a win over the other under their belt, they both decided to split first place from there. With Kilbride not buying into all of the sides, Gibbs still ended up with the greatest share of prize money.

The match for 2nd and 3rd between the teams of Bernie and Lori and Joe and Mike also went hill-hill. Bernie and Lori would not be denied the chance for a rematch and moved on to play for 1st and 2nd. Joe and Mike took home $215.00 for their efforts.

By Mike Bates

Ask Mike

Mike, It seems in a bad econo-my, that dart and pool players would realize business is tough, so why do you think they con-tinue to complain about pay-outs, team shirts, team drinks, etc.?

Mike: Well, lets see how I go at this without getting everyone mad. First, everyone wants a good deal and you can’t blame them for that. What you can do is blame them for being greedy. Again, several more great bars in the area have closed, and people just move on to the next one. They talk about how the bar was managed bad, people gave away drinks etc. They don’t think they had anything to do with it. No matter how good or bad a bar is run, the customers make or break it.

At Bull Shooters, and I am sure lots of other places, we have a large mixture. We have customers who understand that without them paying their way, the bar will struggle. We also have those who want all they can get for free. A regular shot is not enough, they expect extra. Give them some free chips and they want free dip. Give them a pitcher of water and they want $2 in olives. It happens, believe me.

And if you give it to them and take it away for whatever reason, you’re the bad guy. I talked to people all over the country and when they hear “team drinks”, they laugh.

Guys in California get no team drinks, can buy a team t-shirt for $20, and a 200% payback is unbelievable. Not only do Arizona players expect all the above, they want more. Not just a draft, bottle or well drink, they want a premium drink, a large pitcher, or a double. If it isn’t a 300% payback you

suck and a shirt is automatic.

We have over 100 pool teams and over 60 dart teams, about 800 league play-ers in all.(Many wear 2xl’s or bigger shirts) So the average cost of the shirts are $10. That’s $8,000.00 just in shirts. You do what you can, but it is a little out of hand. Now you do a great tournament and pay out $1000.00 and you hope they hang out and support a little and most run out the door.

And pool players are crazy. Our last tournament, with only 13 teams, took about 10 hours. At 2 am when the bar was closing there were three teams. Two wanted to split, one didn’t even though they agreed to give them more money. Another hour and a half. And over the last 2 and a half hours we didn’t even sell a soda, not one item. But they got $120 in team drinks and $150 added to the tournament.

Not only did the bar employees have to

stay two hours extra, the lights were on and AC turned down.

Maybe you don’t have a life, but others do.

Wake up, if someone came to your market, demanded free stuff and money to buy some-thing, you would throw them out. Why do people look at bars so different?

Watch out or your favorite place may not be around for your free stuff.

These are just my opinions and I may be wrong….but not this time..

Bullshooters Humane Society FundraiserOn Aug. 3rd, 64 people came out to support the animals and to raise money to save some dogs lives at Bullshoot-ers Humane Society Fundraiser..

Jamie Bates rounded up the family to help her get this great event rolling and with the help of lots of friends it turned out great. First Dave and Brenda from Playwerx made custom dog and cat houses that would be in the draw-ing.

Next, Jamie got her sister Brooke and Mom Julie to get some great prizes for the drawing.

Next we went to the man with the connections, Mr. Bill Beard, who always makes these events special. Bill got his company, Blue Buffalo, to donate lots of dog food, books, snacks and more.

Next somehow Jamie talked her brother Andy in to working for her so she could run the event.

The dart tournament went off great with help from Scott Paga from Troy Vend-ing, Prize money was over $1,000 and when the dust cleared, the tally for the Humane society was $2,040.00.

Great job as always by our great dart players…

Bull Shooters Leads USA in Remote playWhen Arachnid Inc. came out with the Galaxy 3 Dart Board, they had to wonder if their remote game would be a big hit in the USA.

What remote play does is let players play others around the country and the world.

There are two cameras in the board that show the players at the bar they are playing at and the other showing a shot of the dart board.

What a great concept. Troy Vending bought several boards and brought them into their locations around the valley.

After a little over a month they got a call from Arachnid letting them know that Bull Shooters was the #1 location for remote play with 1,086 games played on the board, beating out others by a long distance.

The players also can get what is called a “Hot Button” To have their name and stats come up every time and also track their games and stats online. Once again Bull Shooters has lead the way - not only in the state, but the USA as well.

It was a fairly light turnout for the Preacher Ronn One Pocket event on August 25th, but that didn’t stop the eight that did show from having a great time along with some good pool.

Brett Huth dispatched Harold Lyons in the first round and of course, Ray “new guy” drew Scott Frost. That didn’t go so good for Ray, and he joined Harold on the “one loss” side. What a way to start your first One Pocket tournament. Oh well, couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Sammy Martinez sent the Big Dog, Tres Kane to the loser’s side with a temperature that matched last week’s highs. Of course Bernie drew Ronn (that’s pretty standard), and Ronn joined Tres on the one loss side.

In round two, Scott would send the “Huthman” packing and Bernie did the same to Sammy. On the one loss side Harold would send the “new guy” Ray home - thanks for coming out - and Tres still steaming from the loss to Sammy, tried to take it out on the Preacher but he didn’t want to stop at confession on his way home so he settled for “two and out”. Harold sent Sammy on his way and the Preacher couldn’t be stopped in a 2/0 victory against Brett.

Scott and Bernie waited around for the losers to make short work of each other before they matched up for the “hot seat”. Ronn put Harold down and waited around to see which one of those “No Names” would join him. It looked like it was going to be a repeat of the State Championship but Bernie pulled out the magic and sent Scott to the loser’s side.

So now it’s down to Bernie, Scott and Ronn. Ronn jumped out to an early 1/0 lead and looked like he’d be putting the Freezer on ice but a

scratch cost him the game and Scott tied it up 1/1. Ru-tan gave it a good shot but it wasn’t meant to be. Scott advanced to meet Bernie for the extended race to 3.

With the hill/hill victory, Scott would show his domi-nance and let the little Englishman know why he’s the reigning State Champ. Preacher took home the “goose-egg” for 3rd. Bernie settled for 2nd and $100, while Scott snatched first and the $190 prize.

Special thanks to Kolby’s for hosting and Dan Shoe for

running the event. The next one will be September 8th at Bullshooters.

Jaye Succo (6) and Mike Penrod (6) battled it out for the hot seat. Mike emerged as the victor. Jaye went to the B side to try and come back for a re-match.

Elgin had his game face on and wasn’t going down easy. The match came down to hill-hill with 3 balls left on the table. Elgin made an amazing cut on the 4 ball, the cue ball ricocheted off and made an equally amazing cut on the 8 ball. Elgin finished in 3rd place with $30, leaving Jaye to face Mike in a rematch.

Due to the late hour Mike and Jaye opted to split the pot of $295 (including side pots). Great shooting and sportsmanship was displayed by all players.

Groggy’s will be running a 6 & under 8 ball once a month. Come out September 23rd and compete in the next one.
