program open to every Clemson student and every college

degree program. Team-based investigations are led by

a faculty mentor and provide the hands-on, real-world

experiences required to succeed in work and life. At

the end of a CI, it’s not uncommon for students to find

EUREKA! Summer Research

EUREKA! (Experiences in Undergraduate Research, Exploration and Knowledge

Advancement) is a five-week opportunity available to incoming first-year honors

students.

Some of the benefits of EUREKA! include

• connecting with a family of academic mentors made up of a faculty adviser

and that adviser’s graduate students and associates,

• learning an advanced skill that will contribute toward reaching your academic

goals,

• an opportunity to stand out early for Rhodes, Goldwater, Fulbright and other

major scholarships and

• the chance to get a jump on making Clemson your new home!

Engineering Immersion

Summer Engineering Immersion is an opportunity for incoming science and

engineering majors to start securing credits for required general engineering courses.

Better yet, Engineering Immersion helps young learners figure out what they

want to do with their engineering degree and select their major. Then, it helps them

determine the best path for getting there. Other benefits of the program include

opportunities to network with industry professionals in an informal setting, to stay in

an engineering-centered Living-Learning Community (RiSE) during the summer and

to take part in social/extracurricular events just for science and engineering students.

After talking with people of many

different nationalities and hearing their

perspectives, I came home inspired to

contribute to the resources that support

the well being of my own Clemson

Family. I’m currently on the national

student advisory board for the “It’s On

Us” campaign, a movement started by

the White House, and had the opportunity

to speak with Vice President Biden when

he visited campus. I’m passionate about

leaving a legacy of positive change, even

if it’s just in one person’s life. That’s what

the Clemson Experience is all about.

I’m confident that my academic and

extracurricular involvements are preparing

me for graduate school and life beyond.

Whether I’m in the lab researching ways

to treat cancer, sitting in a literature

class discussing the Harry Potter series or

taking lessons on playing the carillon bells,

I’ve learned to embrace all that Clemson

has to offer. You’re only in college once.

Deciding where I would attend college came down to relationships.

I arrived at Clemson

as a graduate of South

Carolina’s Governor’s

School for Science and

Math, on academic

scholarship and as part

of the Calhoun Honors

College. The opportunity to

participate in the EUREKA!

program and build lifelong

connections with faculty

mentors and peers before

classes even began is what

drew me here.

Since move-in day, my

time at Clemson has been

filled with a wide range

of innovative learning

experiences on campus, across the

country and around the world.

Through collaboration with Professor

Delphine Dean and the Honors College

and lab, I’ve developed a glucometer for

use in developing countries, researched

the effects of radiating healthy tissues,

published a paper and presented at

three Biomedical Engineering Society

conferences.

Freshman year I was awarded an

educational enrichment travel grant,

which allowed me to teach English in

Bejing, China. Next, I traveled through

Europe to the Balkan region to learn

about global politics and public policy

as part of the Dixon global policy

scholars program. I then conducted

bioengineering research in Singapore and

visited Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

Clemson also funded my travels to

London, Prague and Budapest for Model

UN conferences.
