•Most ordinary people of the Shang Dynasty lived in thatched roof huts with pounded earth foundations, supported by wooden

poles placed in stoned-filled trenches.

•The Shang were buried with bronze ritual vessels, weapons, and jade. Bronze vessels were often filled with food and wine to nourish the dead on their trip to the afterlife.

Tang’s family name was Zi and he was given the name Tang. During

his time of ruling he overthrew the Xia Dynasty (the previous ruling

dynasty.) During his rule, the society was stable and the people

were happy with their living conditions.

Pan Geng followed in the footsteps of his father, Zu Ding, and his brother, Yang Jia. He is

most well-known for moving the capital of the Shang Dynasty to Yin. Under his rule, the Shang

Dynasty was very prosperous and he ruled for an impressive

eighteen years.

• He succeeded his older brother Xiao Jia, and was succeeded by his younger brother Tai Wu. He ruled for 12 years and the dynasty was not very successful under his rule

• During his rule, Shang rulers were decadent

His family name was Zi and he was given the name Xin. He acted very harshly toward the people of the Shang Dynasty. He ruled for 30 years, and his rule brought the fall of the Shang Dynasty. He was a tyrant, had no regard for moral values, was an alchoholic, used extreme measures to control his

court officials, treated the feudal lords disrespectfully, and persecuted his own people with brutality. He plagued the Shang society with a dark, extremely corrupt government administration.

•The Shang Dynasty ended around 1027 B.C. when it was taken over by the state of Zhou.

•The dynasty fell due to King Zhou’s excessive drinking, indulgent lifestyle, and immoral behavior.
