Written by Delores Campbell Heyward

In this storybook you will learn about shapes all around us. You will learn

about two dimensional and three dimensional shapes. You will learn the definition of a polygon and how to tell when shapes are congruent.

Most importantly, you will learn how to identify shapes around you.

Shapes All Around Us

A polygon is a shape that has three or more sides. Here are some examples of two dimensional polygons.

TriangleSquare Rectangle

Pentagon Hexagon Octagon

Do you see any polygons around you?

Here are some polygons that you may see in your environment. Can you name all the polygons?

Can you name the two polygons that were put together to make a new polygon? What is the name of the new polygon?

A triangle and square put

together make a pentagon.

Two pentagons

put together make a

hexagon.

Two triangles

put together make a

rectangle.

Congruent figures are shapes that are the same size and shape. Can you tell what shapes are congruent and what shapes are not congruent? Remember to properly name the shapes.

Rectangular Prism

Cube Cylinder

A three dimensional shape is a solid figure. These are examples of some three dimensional shapes. Can you tell the difference between a two

dimensional shape and a three dimensional shape?

Shapes are all around us. As you go through your day look for different

two dimensional and three dimensional shapes around you. You
