The Shooter McGavin Golf Classic is a two day tournament that matches Team Europe against Team

USA in a Ryder Cup style shootout.

Cost: $120 Cost – Includes 2 rounds of golf and 1 night lodging at the Best Western. $20 Entry Fee – Covers the entry fee for the SMGC and the closest to the pin challenge. TEAM USA

Scott “The Babe Ruth of Softball” Butner Butner is the Captain of Team USA this year. He has played in all 3 Classics and has won

the Cup in all 3. He is 1-1-1 in individual competition. Shooter Cups II and III were both

decided by chip-offs with Butner hitting the winning chip in each. Butner informed everone at last year’s Chubbs that he is “not a distance runner” and he’s “a better softball player than

any of us.” Please don’t ask him about his hangover on Sunday. It will not affect his golf

game.

Chris “Get Legs!” Boyd Boyd has attended 2 Shooter McGavin Golf Classics and won the cup for the first time at last year’s tournament. At 0-2 in individual

match play, he is still looking for his first win. Boyd has gathered a reputation as being

somewhat of a hybrid assassin. Par 3’s greens don’t stand a chance whether the hole is 100 or 200 yards. Expect to see his name on a closest to the pin marker at the end of day. Don’t bother to ask what club he used. His

opening shot at Shooter Cup II was one for the record books. The ball was still visible in the photo as he finished his back swing earning

him the nickname “Get Legs!”.

Jeff “The Sandbagger” Casterline Jeff is a 2-time SMGC participant and has won 1 Cup. He is 2-0 in a match play. He’s not a

guy you want to run into on the 2nd day. Chances are, he’ll be getting a ton of shots because he’ll shoot high on the 1st day. He

rewards punctuality with a jello shot. God help you if your restaurant only has pitcher’s of

Yuengling. Jeff is the oldest and most vocal of the “Boombox Brothers.” He heckles his

opponents as well as his teammates before, during, and after rounds.

Nick “Sidekick” Edwards Nick made a special guest appearance at Shooter Cup II. Nick is looking to improve upon his individual match play record as he lost his only career match. He did, however, win the Cup as a member of Team USA in

Shooter II. Earned his nickname because of his love of obscure Chuck Norris movies and

well, because he drove this in college…

…stay classy San Diego.

Bryan “Humpy” Humphrey Humpy will be returning to the Classic for the

first time since Shooter Cup II. He returns after a year away where he was starring opposite Clyde Frazier in facial hair commercials…or

was that Keith Hernandez? Humpy was able to win his only individual match at Shooter Cup II, knocking off a tough opponent, although his team failed to win the Cup. It is unkown if he will be affected by the heat of a mid-Summer

Classic. The Senior Tour has usually wrapped up their schedule by now.

Trevor “Hugh G. Kook” McDaniel Trevor has participated in one Shooter

McGavin Golf Classic and his team won the Cup in his only try. He lost his only match play

competition, sporting an 0-1 record, but is looking to win his first this year. He is also a notoriously bad speller. If there is something illegible on a closest to the pin card, Trevor

probably hit a good shot. He is The Classic’s version of a mix of Tiger Woods and Rickie

Fowler. Waitresses love him, facial hair doesn’t.

Dan “The Rulebook” Merritt Dan was a newcomer to the SMGC last year. His team won the Cup last year despite a poor showing on his part during the tiebreaking chip-

off. He is 1-0 in match play and finished a strong 3rd place last year. He has been annointed our “on course rules official”

following a dispute at the Chubbs earlier in the year. He’s the first person to ever bleed at a

golf tournament. He was awarded a nose bleed after being attacked by a grizzly bear

named Scott Butner in a hotel room last year.

Rob “Pee Wee” Schabinger Rob has played in all 3 Shooters. He

captained Team Europe to 2 consecutive loses in the first 2 Cups. He won his first Cup last

year as he defected to Team USA. Rob is 1-1-1 in individual matchups. He was the first Gold

Jacket Winner, taking home the prize in Shooter Cup I. It was then he realized that his right arm was a little longer than his left. Rob

is a model of consistency. The self-proclaimed David Duval of the Classic.

Jeff “The Storage Unit” Thompson Thompson is a newcomer to the Shooter McGavin Golf Classic and the last man to

accept an invitation to this year’s Cup. He’ll be dusting off the clubs and coming out of

retirement to tee it up for Team USA. When asked about his golf game, Thompson

responded that he needed to get his clubs out of storage. Yikes. Welcome to the Shooter

Cup.

Brad “Blackbelt” Tomlin Brad is a rookie to the Shooter McGavin Golf

Classic although he teed it up at the Chubbs in the Spring. He impressed in his first

professional tournament, but it is still unknown if he will be able to handle the pressures of the Cup. He is considered the “Bo Jackson” of the

circuit as he is the only 2-sport athlete in the group. Golfer by day, MMA fighter by night.

He has no individual match play record, but his UFC record is 7-1.

TEAM EUROPE

Will “The Iceman” Stewart Will is the Captain of Team Europe for this

year’s Classic. He has played in all 3 Shooter McGavin Golf Classics and has 2 Cups to

show for it. He is a force to be reckoned with on the 2nd day as he is 2-0-1 in individual matchups. The only lefty to ever play in a

shooter cup and the only man to hole-out from 100+ yards in competition. Nicknamed “The Iceman” after shocking one of his oppenents with a Smirnoff Ice post round one. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that he plays golf

faster than Kevin Na.

Jamie “The Bridesmaid” Casterline Nicknamed Goose because, as Rob pointed

out, he makes poopsies all over the golf course. He has attended 3 Shooter McGavin

Golf Classics and has won 2 Cups. He is 1-1-1 in individual match play. He has had success

finishing 2nd for the Gold Jacket in both Shooter Cups II and III earning him another nickname,

“The Bridesmaid”. He is the youngest and most diminutive of the “Boombox Brothers.”

Jason “Tater” Casterline Jason has played in all 3 Shooter McGavin

Golf Classics. He was captain of Team USA in the first two Shooter’s and won the Cup in both tournaments. He is 2-1 in match play and has a top 4 finish to his credit in every tournament.

He’s never met a shot he wouldn’t take, whether it’s a shot out of a muddy water

hazard in hurricane-like conditions or just a shot of malt vinegar. Jason is the wisest and

best-looking of the “Boombox Brothers.”

Dan “Shigeki” Farrell Dan has attended all 3 Classics and has won 1 Cup. He was a member of Team Asia-Pacific

in Shooter Cup I where he earned the nickmane “Shigeki.” He is the only member of the SMGC to ever play a match for Team AP.

He is 1-1 in match play competition. Dan tends to be extremely impressed by his own good shots. If you’re playing with Dan, you won’t hear many compliments for your shots, but

don’t be surprised if you hear him complimenting himself on a good shot with

some salty language.

Steve “The Rookie” Gibson A newcomer to the Shooter McGavin Golf Classic as well as the tour, and a relatively

unknown player. When asked about his golf game, he immediately turned his focus to

alcohol. That gets you an invite to the Cup in most cases. His opponent should have an easier time on the back 9. Welcome to the

Shooter Cup.

Steve “Thunder Lips…The Ultimate Male” Habicht

Steve has participated in all 3 Classics and has 2 Cups to show for it. He is 2-1 in match play.

Steve was the runner-up at Shooter Cup I taking a slim lead into 18. After an 18th hole collapse, he saw the jacket slip through his

fingers and he has never fully recovered. He took some time off, skipping the Chubbs in the Spring. He went from course to course playing only the 18th hole as he tried to better that triple he scored at SMGC I. Steve is the only man to

ever pass out sitting up at the Cup. He also has a mancrush on Terry “Hulk” Hogan.

Dave “The Gray Jacket” Hedrick Dave has attended all 3 Classics, winning his 1st Cup as Captain of Team USA for Shooter Cup III. He is 1-1-1 in match play competition.

He won the Gold Jacket at Shooter Cup II, which he promptly discarded for a gray jacket noting that the Gold Jacket was “a bit snug.” If Dave has a good round, you’ll most likely know it before you finish yours as he’ll be waving his

scorecard around in celebration on the 18th green. He enjoys all things from the 1980s.

Jason “The Ribeye” Petty Petty has attended all 3 Shooter McGavin

Classics, but has yet to win a Cup. He is the only player to attend 3 tournaments and not yet

hold the Cup. He was Captain of last year’s Team Europe who came up short in a chip-off.

He did, however, win the Gold Jacket at Shooter Cup III. He is 2-1 in match play. He

refuses to ever concede a putt to his opponent in match play competition and may or may not show up at the correct course. Also known as

“The Ribeye”, which is the sandwich he blamed for his poor showing at Shooter Cup I.

Brandon “Box It Up” Smith Brandon played in the first 2 Classic’s but has been unable to get his get his hands on the Cup. If you get him on the 2nd day, expect a close match as he has notched ties in both of his individual matches. He took last year off

amidst speculation that he was still recovering from the scotch hangover he earned at Shooter

II. Brandon has also been know to order his food at the restaurant, then leave before it arrives. He has won the award for Best-

Dressed in every competition he has played.

Alan “The Magic Man” Vandiford Alan has participated in 2 Classics with 1 Cup to show for it. He is still looking for his 1st win in match play notching an 0-2 record. After a lot of talk, his opening tee shot on the 2nd day at this year’s Chubbs didn’t make it off the tee box. If Alan’s driver isn’t working, don’t expect him to leave it in the bag. This is good news

for his opponents, bad news for wooded areas and hazards. Earned his nickname due to the

large number of golf balls he can make disappear in a single round.

Saturday, July 28th

(The Legacy)

Everybody should plan on arriving at the course no later than 11:15. The first group will tee off at 11:48 following the ceremonial “1st Tee Shot” by previous individual champion, Jason Petty. Day 1 Rules: Two-man Best Ball – 1 point will be awarded for the team that wins the front 9, 1 point for the back 9, and 1 point for the entire 18. ½ points will be awarded to each team in the event of tie. 3 points will be awarded in each match totaling 15 total points for the 1st day. A 2-man team from Team USA will square off against a 2-man team from Team Europe in head-to-head match play competition. The lowest score on each hole wins that hole for their team. Triple bogey max No mulligans Putts inside the leather are conceded Each team must record all scores for the foursome on their scorecard Closest to the pin holes ($20 each): Hole # 9 – 142 yards Hole # 17 – 134 yards

Sunday, July 29th

(Tobacco Road)

Tee times begin at 10:00 and will be in 10 minute intervals. Tobacco Road is good 30 minutes away from the hotel so plan accordingly. Matchups and pairings will be decided after the 1st round is complete Ryder Cup Style. Day 2 Rules: Head to Head Match Play – 2 points will be awarded for an outright win and 1 point for ties for a total of 20 points. 1st round score will set everyone’s handicap for match play. Triple bogey max on the scorecard, but finish out the hole if it could decide who wins it Putts inside the leather are conceded No mulligans If Player 1 (85 the 1st day) is matched up against Player 2 (90 the 1st day). Player 2 will get 5 shots. 1 shot on each of the 5 toughest holes (handicaps 1 -5). The rest of the holes will be played straight up. If hole 3 is the 2nd toughest hole, Player 1 gets a 5 and Player 2 gets a 6, that hole is halved. If P1 gets a 5 and P2 gets a 5, Player 2 wins the hole. Closest to the pin holes ($20 each): Hole # 3 – 147 yards Hole # 14 – 178 yards

There will be a total of 35 points available. The first team to reach 18 points will win the Shooter Cup. In the event of a tie, we will go to the scorecards. The lowest cumulative score for the final 3 holes will win the match. Each team member will have their scores on 16, 17, and 18 added to their team’s total. The team with the lowest score on these holes wins the tournament. If still tied, it goes to 15, then 14 and so on until a winner is determined.

The Gold Jacket: There will also be an individual champion for the weekend so make sure to finish out the holes. No money will be awarded for this, only bragging rights for a year and a sweet custom made Gold Jacket. LUNCH and AWARDS CEREMONY to follow the last group. The course has a place where we can eat and hang for a while. Everybody bring a camera or camera phone and try and take pictures and videos while you’re out on the course.

Payouts:

$30 will be awarded to each member of the winning team. There will also be 4 closest to the pin awards for $20 each Good luck!
