Maintain Your SHRM Credential with Recertification

HR professionals may maintain their SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential by

engaging in professional development activities that relate to

the Behavioral Competencies and Functional Areas of Knowledge identified in the SHRM Body of

Competency and Knowledge™. SHRM created three avenues by which

SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential holders can earn PDCs: Advance Your

Education, Advance Your Organization, and Advance Your

Profession.

For more information on how to recertify, refer to the SHRM Recertification Handbook.

Developing 2Day's Employees into 2Morrow's Leaders

Finding top talent continues to be a key focus on HR leaders. One of the greatest

resources for finding talent is amongst our employees. Making that leap from employee

to manager can be challenging. Performing successfully in their current role does not

always prepare an employee for the new reality of managing. One of HR’s key strategies

should be investing in their human capital by developing management skills in those

interested employees; creating a pipeline of ready leaders.

Registration begins soon!

Simple Suggestions for New Year’s Resolutions Provided By: Lindsay Dennis Swiger Partner, Holland & Knight [email protected]; 904.353.2000

Believe it or not, 2018 is just around the corner. Now is time to start

considering New Year’s resolutions for your Human Resources team. Here are

two simple suggestions for resolutions that will benefit every employer.

Review and Update Policies

It is important that employment policies and procedures are up-to-date with

all of the changes that have happened in the past year that touch Human

Resources or the industry in which you work. Read the employee handbook.

Cover to cover. Although this is a tedious and time-consuming task, it is

essential that the handbook is thoroughly reviewed, updated and revised to

reflect changes in the law or the ways in which your organization operates.

Employees (and lawyers) rely on employer policies to make decisions. A non-

compliant handbook can have a substantial negative impact on a company and

its employees.

Conduct Sexual Harassment Training

Allegations regarding workplace harassment have been a major focus of news

coverage and social media activity lately. This will undoubtedly lead to a

heightened focus by employees on what their employers are doing (or not

doing) to prevent and address allegations of sexual harassment. An effective

workplace sexual harassment program has many elements, starting with a

legally compliant policy that notifies employees how they may report

complaints of harassment without fear of retaliation. In addition, the program

must include effective communication and training on the policy. Training

should occur at least annually. The training should be given to everyone in the

company and it should be treated as an important and mandatory aspect of

employment. And finally, be sure to keep records of who attended the

training, in case the issue comes up later in litigation.
