Chiria (bird) is free-spirited, edgy and honest without any boundaries, that I base my design philosophy on. The jewellery under the label is handcrafted and draws completely from nature and it’s elements.
It started at the Yoga House in Bombay, where the owner, Maud Chuffart, liked what I was wearing that day and she was like, “why don’t you make some pieces for us?” So it all began from there almost two years back.
It’s a magical world where wood, ceramic,
papier mache and metal come together to
form jewellery.
Each piece is handmade by Simrat and comes
with the promise of uniqueness.

My collection for Lakme Fashion Week 2015 is called ‘Shakti’. It celebrates free spiritedness that comes from the strength within, without pandering to the popular constructs of the concept. Wisps of the bohemian, strains of structure and the lightness of being - this is the vision.
In 2005 I had the opportunity to work with Mr.Shaad Ali on this very vibrant and trend-setting film. Working closely with Mr. Aki Narula, I created and supervised looks for the lead characters - Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan, and other character artists in the film.
My work involved thorough research to understand the cultural and economic lifestyles of the people, in and around Uttar Pradesh. I travelled extensively and sourced fabrics & accessories from the local vendors to give an authentic feel to the film. I assessed color, texture, size and fit of clothes for the lead actors.
I wanted to bring something new for the audience and maintained design/style continuity across breaks in coordination with the director.
Post -release, the movie started an imapctful fashion trend for the retail companies and local markets. The film later won various prestigious awards from the likes of IIFA, filmfare, Guild award, Zee Cine award and many more.

The period film draws inspiration from Helen Keller’s life and struggle. A lot of extensive research went into creating the look, costumes and accessories from that era.
The process involved styled looks for pre-shoot meetings and presentations to make sure every look was according to the director’s vision, which later helped in creating looks for all the lead characters and character artists.
It was a great opportunity for me to design clothes for Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji.
The film won National Award for the best costume in 2007. Black made an all-time record at the Filmfare Awards by winning eleven awards in total. It was also listed at number one on the Indiatimes’ list of 25 Must See Bollywood Movies on IMDB.

Apparel Designer Westernwear
Raymond and Italian apparel brand Grotto Spa, through a 50:50 joint venture, launched the high-end fashion brand GAS in India. They strategised adaptations in their product range for India.
The objective was to conceptualize and visualize their design directions which included research and development on forecasts and trends for the coming seasons. I maintained and developed seasonal collection presentation boards for merchandising.
I was involved in sampling and development ofdesigns in terms of prints and silhouettes of westernwear garments collection.
