ThefootprintofSINAMICSS120CabinetModulesisupto50%lessthanthatofaconventionaldriveunit.Thecabinetwidthsdecreaseina200mmgriddimen-sion.ThedegreeofprotectioncanbesubsequentlyincreaseduptoIP54thankstothenew,specificallydevelopedfilterelementsthatcanbeaddedatanytimewithouthavingtochangethemountingfootprint.

Cost-saving through high energy efficiency

Variable-speedoperationoftheCabinetModulesfrequentlyreducestheenergydemandinthedouble-digitpercentagerange.Inaddition,frequencyconvertermodulesarealsoavailableinaversionthatiscapableofenergyrecovery.Thismeansthattheenergythatisgeneratedwhenbrakingcanbeusedbyotherelec-tricloads.Thiseliminatestheusualwastewhenconvertingtheregenerativepowerintoheatinpulsedresistors.Ifthedrivesystemincludesmotorsthatoperatebothinthemotorandgenera-tormodes,thenthesecanbecoupledthroughacommonDClinksothattheycanexchangeenergybetweenoneano-ther.Thisallowsadditionalenergytobesavedandharmonicsfedbackintothelinesupplyreduced.Incertaincases,thelinesupplyinfeedofthedrivegroupcanevenbedimensionedsmallerthanwouldberequiredforthetotalpoweroftheindividualmodulesconnectedtothecommonDClink.

Amodularmechanicaldesign,IGBTsemiconductorswiththelowestpowerlossandinnovativecoolingmakeSINAMICSS120CabinetModulesthequietestandmostcompactdriveconvertersinastandardcabinet.

Inordertoreducethenoiselevel,thecoolingairroutingthroughtheunitwasoptimizedusingstate-of-the-artthermosimulationtechniques.Alowercoolingrequirementhasalsobeenabletobeachievedbyconsequentiallyusingnew,low-losscomponents.Thetangentialfanslocatedinthelowerareaofthecabinetareveryquietandblowthecoolingairupwardsthroughthedriveconverter.Asaconsequence,allofthepowerele-mentshavethesameintaketempera-ture.Result:Whencomparedtocon-ventionalcabinetunits,thenoiselevelissignificantlylower.
