The last month of school is always a very busy time full of events and no doubt the biggest event is our end-of-year concert a two and a half hour extravaganza around the theme of ‘Cultures’. Classes, led by their form teachers, spent many weeks rehearsing and their hard work certainly paid off as it was the best concert I have seen in 8 years. I would particularly like to thank our concert coordinators Ms. Tarryn Halsall and Ms. Maria Batac who made the concerts such a success. I would also like to thank all of our teachers who also contributed to making the concert so successful. The end of year concert is always a wonderful celebration of our community where our students get to demonstrate working as part of a team, working collaboratively and also using creative forms of expression. It was also a night of awards and I would like to congratulate all of our students who received awards in recognition of their academic, sporting or social contribution to our community. Message from Deputy Principal Dear Parents and Students, Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent or a working parent, it’s likely that summertime gets tough. When kids are home all day, or at least out of the routine of school, they get bored easily. Boredom often leads to whining or other forms of mischief. So what if you’re looking to keep your kids busy, but don’t want to spend loads of money on a trip to the local zoo twice a week? Here are 5 cheap options to keep your kids occupied for the summer. 1. Let them be bored Step one in surviving summer as a parent is to let your kids be bored. As kids these days experience ever more scheduled lives, they’re left less and less often to their own devices. So, of course, as soon as you let them be, they’re bored because they need to learn to play on their own and be creative. In fact, experts say boredom is essential for learning creativity! So number one on your list is also the easiest option: give your kids down time. Provide them with space and time to come up with things to do, and don’t immediately fill up their schedules when boredom inevitably strikes. It doesn’t get much cheaper than that! 2. Institute a chore chart You might as well keep your kids busy and get something out of it. If you don’t already, now is the time to teach them responsibility with a chore chart. This could include unpaid daily chores like making their beds, feeding the family pet, etc. Or you could step up your game a notch with commission-based paid chores. Just make a list or chart of chores kids can get paid for, including the chores’ monetary value. When kids check a chore off the list to your satisfaction, they get paid. 3. Visit the local library These days, most local libraries run summer reading programs. These can incentivize even non-readers to pick up a book this summer. Just make a habit of stopping by the library once a week or more often, and be sure to let kids pick appropriate books that they find interesting (even if you don’t see the attraction). This is a two-birds-one-stone approach, since visiting the library makes for a fun outing, and reading all those books whiles away hours of the summer. 4. Check out your local parks & recreation department Just need the kids out of the house for a day or several this summer? Summer camps can be prohibitively expensive if you’re on a tight budget. But, often times, local parks and recreation departments run day camps that are much cheaper, and allow kids to get outdoors and burn off some energy. Even if your local department doesn’t run camps where they’ll actually take your kids for the day, chances are they’re hosting some cheap or free summer events you can attend as a family. 5. Plant a garden Get kids out of the house and into a healthy pastime with gardening. Even small kids can help plant corn if you’ve got room, as it’s easy to grow in many U.S. climates. Or talk to your local gardening center about fruits, vegetables, or flowers that are particularly easy to grow in your area. Be sure to give the kids some autonomy over this project, to really let them get involved.

Message from Head of Studies (Primary) Dear Parents and Students, Congratulations and many thanks to everyone for helping make 2016-2017 a very successful year. It was the second year of operations for the Primary School at SIS @ Gamuda Gardens and we are proud to say there were many pleasing outcomes. The Singapore and Vietnamese, end-of-year exams produced a range of impressive results with students showing high levels of scholarship and academic excellence. Committed hard work by our teachers throughout the year prepared students well for their exams. Primary School Academic Champions, Stars of the Week, Principal Awardees, Academic Awardees and Achievement Awardees are all testimony to the outstanding effort by teachers and students to showcase and promote the highest quality of education and citizenship at our school. Primary School students also participated in many interesting excursions, produced a star on TV, won interschool sports competitions, participated in multiple stage productions to entertain families and friends and completed excellent class projects and schoolwork. The high level of participation from our Primary School community reflects the excitement and interest our young learners share here at SIS @ Gamuda Gardens. Parents’ supporting role in encouraging children to contribute to school activities is always very much appreciated throughout the year. With so many excellent developments this year, we can look forward to the new 2017-2018 school year commencing August 7th with optimism and anticipation. Our Primary School is growing steadily and the year ahead bodes well for many new opportunities and learning adventures. Just a quick reminder and tip for parents during the holidays: Whatever your child is doing, talk to him/her about it. Let him/her know that you are paying attention to what is happening and that you are interested in and care about his /her activities and pastimes. It is a valuable lesson for your child to learn about respect and empathy through your modelling. On behalf of all Primary School teachers, best wishes to everyone for a happy and safe holiday. Warm regards, Dr. Noel Geoghegan

Message from Head of Studies (Secondary) Dear Students and Parents, As we wrap up the school year and I finish my time at SIS Gamuda Gardens, I would like to thank all the students, parents and teachers of the SIS community who have made my time here so special. The five years that I have spent at SIS have been an unbelievable experience for me and that is due to the fantastic people that I have met in my time here. Even though I am leaving I will always remember my time here and all the amazing students and families that I have met. To all of our students, I hope that you have a great summer break and come back rested after a school year filled with lots of hard work and great accomplishments. Whether you are continuing at SIS or moving on to the next stage of your academic journey I wish you all the best next year and in achieving your goals for the future. Remember to believe in yourself, and always aim to be honest, work hard and work smart! Regards, John Shoulders 6. Message from Head of Studies (High School) Dear Parents and Students, And so we have reached the end of another school year. It’s been a fantastic year in Gamuda Gardens with so many highlights for staff and students. It’s hard to believe that after six years in SIS I will be leaving so soon. The students I have taught over the years have accomplished so many things both in school and since they have left. To the senior students of 2017, it’s time for you to leave us. I hope you’re full of memories for the friends and faces you’ve met in school and excited about where life will take you next. You have reached some incredibly important milestones this year and I hope you meet your future challenges with the same positive attitude you bring to us every day. I’m very excited to finish this year and see what the next one holds for all of us. Have a fantastic summer! Regards, Louise Ellis
