It’s fascinating to see how domestic space becomes the place where people can express themselves and reveal their true personalities, understanding that how the intimate space of the home is decorated and inhabited reflects charac- ter and emotion. More and more removed from public spaces, the inhabitants of the contemporary city fulfill and construct themselves within the confines of private settings. Thus, domestic decoration becomes a personal representation as a result of the need to create an image of the self. “Dead pubic space is one reason…that people will seek out on intimate terrain what is denied them on more alien ground.”* And this—the transformation of social relations and the abandonment of the ritual masks of sociability like those that “create the modes and rituals of courtesy”*—means that urban man is increasingly individualized and isolated. Are domestic interiors, as an expressive and representational tool, not a public instru- ment where one’s own appearance can be manipulated? Doesn’t contemporary man display the style of his home’s interior like a mask of sociabillity? Is the decora- tion of private spaces then a way of declaring one’s authenticity? *Richard Sennett, The Fall of the Public Man. Ed De Bolsillo.2002 Barcelona. In this issue, Tyrannus observes interiors as a way of expressing the style of their inhabitants. It’s fascinating to see how domestic space becomes the place where people can express themselves and reveal their true personalities, understanding that how the intimate space of the home is decorated and inhabited reflects charac-ter and emotion. More and more removed from public spaces, the inhabitants of the contemporary city fulfill and construct themselves within the confines of private

settings. Thus, domestic decoration becomes a personal representation as a result of the need to create an image of the self.

“Dead pubic space is one reason…that people will seek out on intimate terrain what is denied them on more alien ground.”*

And this—the transformation of social relations and the abandonment of the ritual masks of sociability like those that “create the modes and rituals of courtesy”*—means that urban man is increasingly individualized and isolated. Are domestic interiors, as an expressive and representational tool, not a public instru-ment where one’s own appearance can be manipulated? Doesn’t contemporary man display the style of his home’s interior like a mask of sociabillity? Is the decora-

tion of private spaces then a way of declaring one’s authenticity?
