The first part of Inquiry is called Immersion

Miss Robertson got our brains hooked into

water thinking.

Page 4: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Water Discovery Walk

We went for a walk around the school and

discovered all the places where there is

water.

Page 5: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Water Photos

We have all the photos from our water walk.

Come and have a water tour with Maggie and Rhiannon.

Page 6: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We put our ideas on paper and wrote where we thought water came

from.

Where does water come from?

Page 7: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Sharing our ideas about what we first thought

Cordell and Ella will come and share their ideas with you.

Page 8: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We looked at many pictures about water.

This really got our brains thinking.

Page 16: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We tried some experiments to do with water.

We didn’t even blow up the classroom!

Page 17: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Experiment Number One

Take a sip of your water.

Tell the person next to you how old your water is.

Page 18: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Did you know your water has been around for

millions of years? It just gets used over

and over again.

Lucky it gets cleaned after it goes down the toilet!

Page 19: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We talked about where our water comes from at home.

Miss Robertson shared with us that her water came from a bore in the ground.

Sandra’s came from the rain on the roof.

Cordell’s farm was on a water scheme.

Page 20: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Where does yours come

from?Tell the person next to

you.

Page 21: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We wrote down everything we could think of

that uses water.

Page 22: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

You should listen to them all.

Page 23: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Can you think of any different

ones?

Experiment Number 2

Making the water cycle

Come and stand around the back desk group with us.

Page 25: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We were really starting to wonder about where it all began and how we

got our water in Tapanui.

Page 26: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We started looking at the Water Cycle.

Page 27: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production
Page 28: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We even watched a video off

You Tube about the water cycle.

Watch and learn.

Page 29: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

What are the main parts of the water cycle?

I will give you a piece of the water cycle can you come and put in in

the right place?

Page 30: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

The Water Cycle

Page 31: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Miss Robertson had us act out parts of the

water cycle in groups of 3.

Page 32: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Now it is your turn…

Remember to include the four main parts to the water cycle.

Page 33: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We went on a trip to Whiskey Gully to find out where our water came

from.

Page 34: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We made a collage to explain how

we get the water in Tapanui.

Page 35: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We had so much information!

We had to put it somewhere…

We made a wall display to show all of our learning.

We sorted all of the information out.

Go and take a look.

Page 36: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Finding OutIs the next stage of the

Inquiry

We now had many questions that we wanted to know the

answer to and find out about.

Page 37: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We had to really think hard about where we

would get the answers from.

Page 38: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

The questions we wanted to find out

about.Why does Africa not have

clean water?

Page 39: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why does it rise into the sky?

Page 40: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why does it come from Whiskey Gully?

Page 41: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why does it evaporate?

Page 42: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

How do we get water?

Page 43: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why does it go up the mountain?

Page 44: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

How do they get the fish out of the pipe?

Page 45: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why don’t some people get much water?

Page 46: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

How do we get it from the river?

Page 47: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why does it go in a cycle?

Page 48: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why is there different types of water?

Page 49: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Why does it go through the pipes?

Page 50: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Sorting Out is the next stage in

the Inquiry Process.

Page 51: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We had to sort out all of our new

learning.

Page 52: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We put all of our questions up on the wire so we could

look back at them.

Page 53: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Going Further

We really were interested in how

Africa was short of water and we

wanted to help out.

Page 54: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

It shocked us when we found out that one in six people struggle to get

clean water in the world.

Page 55: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

It takes an average African 5 hours to walk to a clean

water supply.

Page 56: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We rang World Vision to find out why we don’t ship our nice water to

Africa?

Page 57: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

A really nice lady rang us back at school and told us that the

reason we do not ship our water to Africa is because it is too far

and too expensive. She told us that they are building

wells in communities so you don’t need to send water to

them.

Page 58: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

So What Now?

This is the last part of the Inquiry process.

Page 59: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

What will we do with all this new information?

We came up with many ideas.

Page 60: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

We could…

Make signs about not wasting water.

It is precious lots of other people need it to survive.

Print photos to grab peoples attention.

Make posters.Have a water school.

Page 61: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Don’t waste water!

We found out some facts to back up what we were saying.

Page 62: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Did you Know?

Our body is made up of two thirds water.

Page 63: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Did you know?

A lot of water can be saved if you water plants using a

watering can.

Page 64: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Did you know?

If clean water is available from a tap please use it instead of

buying bottled water.

It is a waste of energy!

Page 65: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Did you know?

A washing machine uses 60 litres per load.

So only use it when you need to.

Page 66: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Did you know?

A bath uses 80 litres of water and a shower uses only 30

litres.

I know which one I would use more often!

Page 67: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Did you know?

How many litres do you think the toilet uses every time

you flush?

Tell the person next to you?

Page 68: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

10 whole litres

We have a bucket of water from the toilet to share with

you.

Think twice before you flush!

Page 69: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Please try not to leave the tap running at home when you are

brushing your teeth.

If you leave the plug in and the tap running when you brush, you

will be amazed with how much water you will be wasting.

Page 70: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

Clean the car using a bucket it will only use about 30 litres.

If you use the hose it will use 6 times as much water.

Page 71: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production

FACT SHEET

We have made a fact sheet for you to take home and put on

your fridge.

We are going to share the information with you.

Page 72: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. A Room 4 Production
