The Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP)› The aim of the FI-PPP is to generate new

opportunities in the Future Internet, derived from digitalization of economy sectors

› This requires creating an generic, open and standard platform (FI-WARE) and meeting point (FI-LAB) around which a dynamic innovation ecosystem can be created engaging developers and entrepreneurs

› Born local (Europe) but with global ambition

EC provides half of the funding:

ETSI NFV ISG – basic facts› Every company can join ETSI NFV ISG (Industry Specification

Group) without having to be member of ETSI› Currently ETSI NFV ISG comprises ~190 companies, including

startups

› Open Reference Points/Interfaces entry point for SMEs

Pluggable modular NFV architecture SMEs can focus on sub-components, rather than have to deliver a full

integrated stack for Network Functions

› SDN provides network programmability SMEs can implement network services, without having to provide

hardware equipment

› Open(-source) platform in discussion

FI and 5G - Complementary PPP’s

› Progress on services (e.g. FI-PPP) is increasing the existing high pressure to build improved infrastructure(s)

› The need to advance networks (e.g. 5G Infrastructure PPP) to ensure the optimal user experience and EU Leadership is already clear

cONCLUSIONS› Opportunities for SME’s to enter are rapidly increasing

in number due to – The changing value chains and business models– User expectations are that services for daily life will develop rapidly

by 2016– Acceptance of technology is growing and consumers want devices

to communicate and record their lives– The new services and applications which ICT can enable for all

commercial sectors

› Phase III of the FI-PPP - Funding for SME’s in Europe will take a leap forward when it starts to distribute 80 M Euro

› For the 5G-PPP, 20% of the budget of 700 M Euro public funding should be given to SME’s

Key challenges

› PPP Programme that will deliver solutions, architectures, technologies and standards for the ubiquitous 5G communication infrastructures of the next decade

› Programme Ambitions: Key Challenges / High level KPIs › Providing 1000 times higher wireless area capacity and more varied service

capabilities compared to 2010

› Saving up to 90% of energy per service provided. The main focus will be in mobile communication networks where the dominating energy consumption comes from the radio access network

› Reducing the average service creation time cycle from 90 hours to 90 minutes

› Creating a secure, reliable and dependable Internet with a “zero perceived” downtime for services provision

› Facilitating very dense deployments of wireless communication links to connect over 7 trillion wireless devices serving over 7 billion people

› Enabling advanced User controlled privacy
