Welcome

Ideally equipped for your fleet – the new generation of Mercedes-Benz compact cars

A car like from another planet: the Concept A‑CLASS represents the first pulse for a new generation of Mercedes‑Benz compact cars. And the first model of this generation to go into production is the new B‑Class. Perfect space in its most beautiful form – the dynamic Sports Tourer is the ideal car for all those who desire a genuine Mercedes‑Benz in compact format. Boasting outstanding active and passive safety, exceptional ride comfort and a high‑quality interior, it offers more new innovations than any previous model change in the history of Mercedes‑Benz.

Thanks to efficient new drive systems and a wealth of optional extras in the fleet package, the new B‑Class is the ideal addition to your fleet. With fuel consumption of 4.4 litres/100 km and CO2 emissions of 114 grams per kilometre*, the B 180 CDI is exceptionally efficient.

Standard equipment for the B‑Class includes a world first for the compact seg‑ ment in the shape of the radar‑based warning system COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST with adaptive Brake Assist. This innovative solution is designed to pre‑vent typical rear‑end collisions in dangerous traffic situations above 30 km/h. The widespread use of safety technologies means less expensive insurance premiums in many European markets – all of which has a direct effect on your TCO. Last but not least, the Sports Tourer is the safest car in its class, which only serves to add to your fleet’s appeal.

Yours

Matthias LührsVice President Sales

Concept A‑CLASS: the first pulse of a new generation

Emphatically light interior styling

Associations with aviation engineering on the inside. The interior of the Concept A‑CLASS, which is flooded with light thanks to the large panoramic roof, likewise appears to be from another planet. Many of the extraordinary features were inspired by aircraft engineering, at the same time reflecting ideas from the “Mercedes‑Benz Aesthetics No. 2” interior sculpture. Various component groups have been reduced to a minimum, for example the dashboard and centre console are merely brushed aluminium structures. The result is a transparent, light, bionic design effect. As

an extremely eye‑catching detail inside the Concept A‑CLASS, the dashboard takes the form of an aircraft wing and has a translucent, stretchable textile lining. This high‑tech lining and the lack of a conventional support structure give the dashboard the semblance of being free‑floating.

New design idiom in the compact class

Concentrated dynamism on the outside. A long bonnet, a low silhouette and slender window areas: the proportions of the Concept A‑CLASS stand for concentrated dynamism. Its sporty appearance is given particular depth by the interplay between lines and surfaces. “The Concept A‑CLASS introduces the new Mercedes‑Benz design idiom into the compact class in a sculptured, light and expressive interpretation,” says Professor Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes‑Benz. “Our formal sources of inspiration were the wind and waves, as well

as aviation engineering, resulting in this look.” One major characteristic of the new design idiom at Mercedes‑Benz is the expressive interplay between lines and surfaces. The Concept A‑CLASS emphatically continues this theme of defined edges and interacting surfaces, which Mercedes‑Benz first showed on the F 800 Style. The front end of the Concept A‑CLASS is a real eye‑catcher. The brand logo appears to be surrounded by a starry sky. Where there are usually apertures or louvres, the radiator grille consists of numerous metallic silver “dots” on black stems. This theme is reflected in the design of the wheels. The rear end exudes power and athleticism, and is like‑wise enlivened by an interplay between convex/concave surfaces and pronounced edges.

A car like from another planet: the Concept A‑CLASS sees Mercedes‑Benz ushering in a new compact‑class era, both visually and technologically.

Concept A-CLASS – in brief

The Concept A-CLASS introduces the new Mercedes-Benz design idiom into the compact class with concentrated dynamism and borrowings from aviation engineering. As the first pulse of a new compact-car generation, the interior and exterior look like they are from another planet.

Zero emissions in first class. The F 125! is a visionary research vehicle that anticipates future trends and paves the way for the implementation of an innovative premium concept for large and luxurious cars. For Mercedes‑Benz, the F 125! is the logical next step in its quest to turn the vision of emission‑free driving with hydrogen into reality and also underlines the potential of hydrogen as a fuel of the future.

Open and sensuous. AMG, the Mercedes‑Benz Cars performance brand, is unveiling a new dream car: the SLS AMG Roadster. Two years after the stunning debut of the gullwing model at the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show, the open‑top version of the super sports car has now arrived.

The new B‑ClassFor what’s coming up

Space in its most beautiful form

The trim panel with display and circular nozzles

A new dimension in interior quality. High‑grade materials and finely structured surfaces, refined details, precise workmanship, and even more generous proportions – the new B‑Class interior raises the bar in the compact‑class segment. The dashboard has a matt, largely dirt‑repellent surface with a high‑quality feel. As an option, it can be trimmed in ARTICO man‑made leather with topstitching. Above the round nozzles is a seemingly floating display available in two sizes. The 3‑spoke steering wheel, the

analogue instrument cluster and the seats with contrasting topstitching emphasise the car’s sporty and emotive aspects. Four exquisite equipment packages (Chrome, Sport, Exclusive and Night) allow individualisation of the exterior and interior and can be intercombined. Many of the available optional extras were previously the reserve of higher‑end vehicle segments.

Emotive and sporty exterior. The new B‑Class Sports Tourer offers plenty of space as well as impressive dynamics. At the front end, the prominent grille, trapezoidal air intake with daytime running lamps and halogen headlamps with reflection technology combine to create a dynamic look. Defining features at the rear end include a wide rear window and the two‑part rear light unit. Boasting an outstanding drag coefficient (cd figure) of 0.26, the new B‑Class goes straight to the top of its market segment. The

new sportiness and excellent aerodynamics are particularly evident in the side lines. The rear spoiler incorporates all the aerials and also minimises turbulence behind the car. Refined details such as the sophisticated design of the headlamps with the new torch element in the optional bi‑xenon and Intelligent Light System underline the aspiration of Mercedes‑Benz to be unquestionably premium, even in the compact segment. As an (attr)active component of the safety concept, they also ensure superb visibility.

The new B‑Class design delivers a sporty and emotive take on the current Mercedes‑Benz design line.

Efficiency High‑tech in the compact segment

Economical new engines with high torque. It’s all change under the bonnet, too: the new B‑Class features new petrol and diesel engines as well as new manual and automatic transmissions. All of these major components were in‑house‑developed simultaneously, meaning that they could be perfectly adapted to one another – when implementing the standard‑fit ECO start/stop function, for instance. One thing these new components all have in common is the use of the latest technologies for maximum efficiency, outstanding

of experience in the development and production of automatic transmissions. It is extremely compact, exceptionally versatile at adapting the engine speed thanks to the seven gears, compatible with the start/stop system on account of an electric oil pump and able to change gear with no interruption in tractive power. What’s more it combines the convenience of an automatic with the efficiency of a manual transmission. Both clutch actuation and gear changing are fully automatic, enabling a comfort‑

refinement and exceptional pulling power, even at very low engine speeds. Fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 21 percent; the figure for the B 180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is just 4.4 litres/100 km (114 g CO2/km).* The excellent drag coefficient (cd figure) of 0.26 likewise has a major impact on the efficiency of the new B‑Class. In respect of the transverse installation, the without exception turbocharged engines and both the transmissions are designed to be very compact, meaning that the B‑Class has a very small turning circle of eleven metres – no mean achievement for a front‑wheel‑drive car. Easy-to-use and efficient transmissions. Another Mercedes‑Benz premiere – the new 7G‑DCT dual clutch transmission in the B‑Class – is the result of over 50 years

oriented and dynamic driving style. One of the major factors behind the overall efficiency of the B‑Class is the close interlinking between the transmission and engine control units. These control units continuously exchange data, meaning that the engine always runs at the optimum operating point. What’s more, the 7G‑DCT is more compact and lightweight than previously marketed transmissions.

Easy recharging at a charging station or through a household power socket

Range of up to 600 kilometres

meaning that the electric car is also ideal for long‑distance trips and offers its driver unrestricted mobility. All thanks to the combination of a power‑ful electric drive with a high‑tech internal combustion engine developing 50 kW. The latter performs a dual function: at low speeds, it charges the battery through an alternator whilst driving; at higher speeds – for example on longer motorway stretches – it

also functions as a traction motor which, together with the electric motor, drives the front wheels through a newly developed automatic trans‑mission.

The best of both worlds. Thanks to the ENERGY SPACE modular concept, the new B‑Class is already configured for alternative drive systems: appropriate interfaces in the body‑shell allow modification of the main floor assembly and the creation of a step for versions with alternative drive. A partially double floor under the rear seats provides space for the alternative energy storage devices.

Full everyday practicality. The Concept B‑Class E‑CELL PLUS can run on electric power alone, i. e. without producing any local emissions, for up to 100 kilometres. In combined driving mode, the vehicle emits 32 g of CO2 per kilometre.* Outstanding handling is assured in every driving situation thanks to the intelligent electronic control system at the heart of the Concept B‑Class E‑CELL PLUS. The internal combustion engine is activated and deactivated fully automatically without the driver even noticing. The electric motor and the internal combustion engine work together so intelligently that the drive unit always selects the most fuel‑ efficient mode within a fraction of a second, whatever the driving situation – be it urban stop‑and‑go traffic or fast extra‑urban trips. In terms of safety and comfort, the Concept B‑Class E‑CELL PLUS meets high Mercedes‑Benz standards in every respect. By way of example, the car combines an electric drive with compact exterior dimensions, generous luggage space and five fully‑fledged seats.

Sustainability – in brief

With the close-to-production Concept B-Class E-CELL PLUS, Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric car portfolio to include a compact model offering full everyday practicality. The combination of electric motor and high-tech internal combustion engine allows long-distance driving and combines the best of both worlds.
