Any number of modules from 6 to 28 is possible. Although designed for commercial applications, all NHP small solar kits are suitable for domestic installation. Maximum voltages fall under the 600 V domestic limit.

For 2xMPPT systems using the 4 or 5 kW EnaSolar inverters, order an additional DC isolator LS25PFLH4A4O and mounting bracket when the 2 arrays are separated by a significant distance. Longer fly-leads may also be required.

* Annual energy production - “yield”- has been modelled using leading full-system software PVsyst™. Systems are set at optimum orientation, zero shading, 20 year average Meteonorm weather data, flush-mounted and typical cable losses included.

Results are conservative and regarded as “bankable” in Europe when finance for systems is sought. Ref: www.pvsyst.com

Design Considerations

Sizing your systemYour end-user should be encouraged toward:

1. Utilising all the good solar space they have.

2. Sizing their system with a clear objective in mind, e.g. 100% self-use, or sizing for self-use + future electric car-charging. Noting the following:

a) It is difficult to upgrade existing systems due to module aging, the need for new design documentation and connection and feed-in agreements. An upgraded system will suffer roughly double the installation costs due to there being 2 distinct installation operations.

b) Future feed-in tariffs may be reduced/withdrawn, so should not be relied upon to justify projects. Rather, it is the increase in future energy prices that can be negated today with a 100%-scaled system, PLUS additional capacity for any other future energy needs.

Note that an NHP solar kit, correctly maintained, will produce fuel-free energy for >25 years.

Follow the CEC Install and Supervise Guidelines for Accredited Installers and AS/NZS5033: help determine the maximum roof area that may be utilised.

Make the most use of the roof area based on the kit mounting arrangements presented in this brochure.

Matching Arrays to InvertersNHP have done this for you. All kit configurations on offer have been modelled in PVsyst™ software and using EnaSolar’s own SolarConfig software. Ref: www.pvsyst.com and www.enasolar.net/configurator

Modelling has been completed for ambient temperature ranges of -15°C to +85°C cell temperatures, with 90% of configurations achieving -20°C to 90°C. This accounts for all record temperatures across Australia and NZ.

Our engineers have gone further in securing the inverter voltage-window than merely allowing for extreme temperatures. Our systems are configured to remain in MPPT mode for longer. In fact, NHP systems have been designed to function in low light (100 W/m2), at high air density, at record 55°C ambient, using the lowest tolerance modules at the end of their 25 year performance guarantee period.

At the other end of the spectrum, our systems are designed to remain generating and not exceed critical inverter maximum voltage when new, in 1100 W/m2 irradiance at record low temperatures.

No customer wants their system disconnecting, failing or under-performing. Ever. This is why NHP model end-of-life performance.

Overdrive

Several NHP kits are schemed with solar arrays larger than the inverter. For example, the PVG12OD has 2.82 kWs of solar modules driving a 2 kW EnaSolar inverter. Our competitors often offer the opposite arrangements. So why can NHP do it this way?

RatingsRatings of modules and inverters are nameplate ratings. They allow customers to compare performance.

Module power ratings are measured at STC* which roughly equates to full sun at 0°C ambient (25°C cell temp). A rare event.

NHP Engineers optimise systems to operate at real-world conditions. In many regions, full-sun hours represent a small percentage of the approx 4000 annual daylight hours.

End-users concerned to see their 2.8 kW system generate exactly 2.8 kW rarely witness this event.

Overdrive allows for a reduced investment cost for virtually the same annual energy generation.

This is permitted under the latest CEC design rules: CEC Design Guidelines for Accredited Installers (December 2011) Section 5.2.

Most European inverter manufacturers allow very little overdrive . The engineers at EnaSolar have achieved it.

If an end-user requires the comfort of experiencing highest instantaneous peak output power they remain free to invest the extra funds for a larger inverter.

All NHP configurations are warranted by EnaSolar in terms of inverter sizing and are allowed by their factory configurator.

Annual YieldThe energy generated over a year by an overdrive system is virtually identical to one with equal nameplate ratings. In some instances the overdriven system will outperform the more common arrangements.

The maximum ac output of the 2 kW EnaSolar inverter is 2.1 kW. Subsequently, the PVG12OD system may only generate 2.1 kWac in high irradiance. This will entail what is known as peak lopping. Sited in Melbourne, the PVG12OD would lose 1.6 % annually in peak lopping. However, because there is a larger array there is a higher array Voc voltage which results in earlier start-up. The PVG12OD “wakes up” earlier in the morning and starts generating. This area at the start and end of the performance curve makes up for the peak lopping loss. Another aspect is the fact the inverter spends more time functioning at higher efficiencies and less time at low loads.

This system suits cloudy climates such as Melbourne and Sydney, and climates of moderate solar irradiation such as Tasmania and New Zealand.

Zoned kitsThe Overdrive PVG12OD mentioned above is unsuitable for areas of extreme solar irradiation such as Alice Springs. This is because full sun hours over a year are significant and the system output would demonstrate excessive peak lopping. It’s worth noting however, such a system would still generate energy far in excess of any located in Germany or Canada for example.

3 of NHP’s small kits fall into this arrangement and the zones are presented on the next page.

EnaSolar inverters incorporate web-servers which communicate wirelessly via your local internet connection to EnaSolar for free lifetime factory monitoring. This is easy to configure and in fact initiates EnaSolar’s product warranty. As a consequence, access to your system’s live reports and alerts via Smartphone or tablet device is simple.

Ethernet versions of EnaSolar inverters are available by special order. Bluetooth is not an option as Wi-Fi provides a more reliable solution.

For sites without internet connection, monitoring is local only and accessible via device display or local PC or Adhoc network. EnaSolar’s factory monitoring can be accomplished via sporadic manual data downloads.

Multiple inverters can be monitored as a single site system.

Your EnaSolar live report is accessible via the internet and smartphones.

NHP offers a comprehensive range of AC energy meters and power quality analysers for all types of applications.

For single phase applications the EM11 provides uni-directional energy metering.

Over the past 12 months system audits by bodies such as ESV and NSW Fair Trading have highlighted significant instances of incorrect labelling. Further, there is much evidence of poor quality imported labelling fading rapidly. Avoid these minor defect notices with NHP label kits which use GravoUltra Generation II industry-standard material.

For the ultimate in performance, NHP have released a premium-grade label kit to suit our industrial and mining customers located in Australia’s harshest regions. The high grade French-produced GravoGlass material, and 3M backing paper, add to provide a 5 year product warranty. This is the most durable Traffolyte-style labelling available in Australia/NZ.

The next boom in solar power is expected to be in the industrial sector as businesses take advantage of the falling cost of solar and various government programs to implement energy saving initiatives such as installing solar power systems. The installation of solar power can now return a respectable ROI and helps to insulate a business against the ever increasing price of electricity.

Electrical contractors that work with NHP typically have a wide range of capabilities from power distribution to industrial automation. However, in some cases, contractors may not have yet developed any solar power expertise.

Solar PV accreditation is a qualification that demonstrates competence in design and/or

installation of solar power systems. To be eligible for government incentives such as RECs, solar credits and feed-in tariffs the installer must be accredited by the Clean Energy Council.

Any A Grade Electrician can achieve accreditation simply by completing a short course - often lasting only a few days and at minimal cost - at a local TAFE or other training institute.

NHP is a Corporate Member of the Clean Energy Council and recommends the path to accreditation as outlined by the CEC as well as the benefits of membership.

For information regarding the CEC Accreditation Scheme please visit the dedicated website: www.solaraccreditation.com.au

Solar PV Accreditation – Why and How?

One crucial aspect in selecting the supplier of your photovoltaic equipment is their ability to provide high-level technical back-up and a rapid field service response.

The importance of up-time and performance warrantees that often underpin project finance

cannot be over emphasized and in this regard, NHP is a strong supply partner.

NHP have technical support personnel in all key regions across Australia and New Zealand and field service engineers active in remote regions where photovoltaic power plants are often located.
