"Social entrepreneurs are not content just to give a fish or teach how to fish.
They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry."
Bill Drayton
“The entrepreneur always searches for change,
responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity.”
Peter Drucker
THE OPPORTUNITIES
Example of Digital Humanities as social innovation
THE SOLUTION Social Innovation • Social innovation concepts and practices,
defined as a novel solution to a social problem that is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or just than current solutions, are extended successfully worldwide.
• The value created by social innovation accrues primarily to society rather than to private individuals, but guided by three drivers: – Exchange of ideas and values (Web 2:0
factor, increasing concern of climate change, poverty, hunger, etc.) undermine
– Shifts in roles and relationships (parents, family, individual, entrepreneurs, self-employed, etc.)
– Integration of private capital with public and philanthropic support (PPP, CSR, social business, etc.),
Example: Grameen Bank in Bangladesh has been lending small sums of money, mostly to rural poor women so they can engage in micro enterprises, but also to
collective groups. The innovation of Grameen Bank is that it lends money to people who would not be eligible in the
normal commercial sense (unbankable). People are helped to
determine the best way to satisfy their needs and are helped by the bank's
officers in the villages.
