Overview

Page 3: Solenoid Valves

It is an electromechanically operated valve. The valve is controlled by an electric current through a solenoid.

Solenoid valves are inherently two-position devices. That is they are either all the way on or all the way off.

It can be operated on AC or DC voltage. AC design is much more common but it may overheat.

How a solenoid works If there is no current applied

through the solenoid coil, the valve plug is tight against the valve seat. Therefore, no fluid can pass.

When the solenoid coil is energized, a magnetic field is established which pulls the armature up. As the armature moves up, the valve plug is lifted off the valve seat which therefore allows fluid to pass

Patent example

Page 11: Solenoid Valves

The utility model discloses an air conditioner refrigerant regulation unit comprising a refrigerant storage tank, a refrigerant collection solenoid valve, a refrigerant supplement solenoid valve, and a pressure sensor. When the pressure sensor detects the refrigerant pressure of an air conditioner circulation system is larger than a refrigerant collection threshold value, the controller controls to open the refrigerant collection solenoid valve; and when the pressure sensor detects the refrigerant pressure of the air conditioner circulation system is smaller than a refrigerant supplement threshold value, the controller controls to open the refrigerant supplement solenoid valve. A signal output end of the pressure sensor is connected with a signal input end of the controller. A control end of the refrigerant collection solenoid valve and a control end of the refrigerant supplement solenoid valve are both connected with a control end of the controller. The amount of air conditioner refrigerant is regulated by controlling the refrigerant collection solenoid valve and the refrigerant supplement solenoid valve through the pressure sensor and the controller.
