SOLIDWORKSINSPIRED TO DESIGN
Presentation by Pankaj Dogra
SOLIDWORKSSOLIDWORKS (originally SolidWorks) is solid modeling CAD (computer-aided design) software that runs on Microsoft Windows and is since 1997 produced by DassaultSystmes SOLIDWORKS Corp., a subsidiary of DassaultSystmes, S. A. (Vlizy, France). SOLIDWORKS is currently used by over 2 million engineers and designers at more than 165,000 companies worldwide. FY2011 revenue for SOLIDWORKS was 483 million dollars.INSPIRED TO DESIGN

Loft: Loft is useful for building a surface through dissimilar profiles or bounding a four sided shape using the option of guide curves.Fill: Fill is a catch-all for areas that cannot be defined using Loft and Sweep. It should be the only consideration when needing to fill 3 sided or 5 or more sided areas.Boundary: it is much like loft except that it does treats the first and second directions equally. Loft profiles have influence over the guide curves which sometimes produces un-predictable and undesired behavior. It also can match adjacent surfaces curve continuously on all sides.Freeform: it is for modifying an existing surface by pushing and pulling on it with control curves and points.

An extensive set of modeling tools for complex shapes
Today, were just going to concentrate on three features: boundary Fill and freeform.
Dissimilar or multiple profiles/Guides and need it to be solid: Use Loft
Similar profiles but change along length of shape: Use Sweep
Three or five or more boundaries: Use Fill
For high quality surfaces-only and C2 in both directions: Use Boundary
For modifying surfaces dynamically and without sketches: Use FreeformWhich Surface Feature to use?
It is important to understand the differences between the big five surfacing features.Loft is useful for building a surface through dissimilar profiles or bounding a four sided shape using the option of guide curves.Sweep is a very high quality and robust surface and should be considered when the surface definition is such that the topology does not change but the geometry does as is the case when morphing from a circle to an ellipse.Fill is a catch-all for areas that can not be defined using Loft and Sweep. It should be the only consideration when needing to fill 3 sided or 5 or more sided areas.Boundary is much like loft except that it does treats the first and second directions equally. Loft profiles have influence over the guide curves which sometimes produces un-predictable and undesired behavior. It also can match adjacent surfaces curve continuously on all sides.Freeform is for modifying an existing surface by pushing and pulling on it with control curves and points.
Boundary IntroductionFeatures:Unlike Loft, there is not influence of curve direction 1 over curve direction 2.
Because of this C2 matching can be applied to all sides.
First Direction
Second Direction
As I mentioned previously, Boundary treats the 1st direction and 2nd direction equally. Because of this, Curve Continuous matching can be applied to all sides.
Boundary IntroductionFeatures:Can create surfaces with only 1 curve in each direction
Sometimes it is advantageous to create surfaces with just two cross curves. This is possible using Boundary
