Analyze Interior and Exterior Data SimultaneouslyThe ARCHIBUS Geospatial Extensions let you use the powerful family of ESRI solutions to address issues that cross the artifi cial boundary between “inside” and “outside” the building. The Extensions provide “real world” context and enable quicker decision-making based on rich, multi-dimensional sources of information.

For example:

• Real Estate Managers may ask: Which cities provide the optimal mix of demographic variables for opening new fi eld offi ces or laboratories?

• Space Planners may ask: How do functional departments span buildings in a campus setting?

• Operations Staff may ask: How do utility lines relate to and impact interior spaces?

• Security Personnel may ask: Which mission-critical rooms and equipment are in close proximity to our natural gas lines?

Robust GIS Functionality Made AffordableEven if your organization or department does not have an existing GIS capability, you can instantly geo-enable your deployment by linking ESRI® ArcGIS Online, directly into ARCHIBUS Web Central. You can use the off-the-shelf forms for working with properties, leases, or work requests; or you can embed your own GIS queries using just standard ARCHIBUS integration skills.

• Outsource your GIS practice: easily correlate the wealth of existing data provided by ESRI, such as street maps, satellite data, demographics, and more to your own portfolio of properties, leases, buildings, and assets

• Avoid redundant data entry: automatically geo-reference all of your properties, buildings, leases, and assets using the information you already have in your ARCHIBUS database

• Keep in synch: all GIS queries are connected to live dynamic data provided by ESRI, as you perform property transactions, sign and expire leases, reassign spaces, complete work orders and more

ARCHIBUS Geospatial Extensions Introduction

The ARCHIBUS Geospatial Extensions connect existing ARCHIBUS real estate, facility, and infrastructure information and management tools with ESRI’s powerful geospatial capabilities to provide enhanced analysis and more informed decisions.

Fundamental to the ARCHIBUS Geospatial Extensions is the mapping of ARCHIBUS assets’ primary keys to geodatabase features. This allows the ARCHIBUS database to serve, in effect, as a very large set of extended attributes for any linked features in a geodatabase. It also allows the GIS to readily extend the power of ARCHIBUS for managing assets and events that are located outside the standard ARCHIBUS logical space hierarchy. The ARCHIBUS Geospatial Extensions connect the business logic, forms, and workfl ow of the ARCHIBUS applications together with the geo-processing and visualization capabilities of ESRI’s GIS applications.

For example, building features in the GIS are given a BL_ID attribute fi eld by which the features may be joined to the ARCHIBUS Buildings table and spatially queried with respect to any associated information therein. Equipment assets located outside a building may be geo-referenced and conveniently represented as points on a map anywhere in the world while still being managed by the existing operations activities and asset management tools. Links between map applications and ARCHIBUS Web Central may be easily achieved by using an asset’s primary key as part of a URL parameter string.

ComponentsThe ARCHIBUS Geospatial Extensions include several components:

• ArcGIS Online

This solution is being offered as part of the core ARCHIBUS product for all Web Central V.18.2 users. Provides immediate access to ESRI’s supported online mapping service, allowing access to the following geospatial content within the ARCHIBUS Web Central dashboard views:

▫ World Imagery

▫ World Street Map

▫ USA Topographic Maps

▫ World Physical Map

▫ World Shaded Relief Imagery

▫ USA 2000-2008 Population Change

▫ USA 2008 Diversity Index

• Two sample Web mapping applications - one each for ArcGIS Server and ArcIMS

▫ These applications serve maps and tools over the Web for access via a Web browser alongside ARCHIBUS Web Central.

▫ They include the ability to perform spatial and logical queries based on ARCHIBUS attributes and link out to any number of designated ARCHIBUS Web Central views.

▫ The map applications also respond to asset keys being passed at the url level, so, from a Web Central report, the map application may be launched and will pan and zoom to the asset feature of interest.

▫ Sample Web Central views are provided, as is all source code for the map applications.

• ArcGIS Desktop Components

▫ Sample map and globe documents illustrate the ability to join features to ARCHIBUS data, allowing real-time queries of attributes updated and maintained through existing ARCHIBUS workfl ows.

▫ The Geo-referencing Tool facilitates the creation of spatial reference information for CAD drawings that are to be imported.

▫ The CAD Import Tool automates conversion and imports of buildings (polygon features), equipment (point features), and rooms (room polygons and fl oor polygons) from AutoCAD drawings that have been attached to ARCHIBUS asset records via the ARCHIBUS Overlay for AutoCAD. In addition to importing the relevant drawing objects, the CAD Import Tool also correlates drawing objects with their unique identifi er in the ARCHIBUS schema, adding the key value as an attribute of the resulting feature in the GIS.

• Sample Data and Schema

▫ HQ_GIS ARCHIBUS project database

▫ Set of AutoCAD dwg and published dwf fi les for the project

▫ File geodatabase with a corresponding collection of features

▫ Scripts to facilitate defi nition of SDE views and SQL views

ARCHIBUS is an open architecture database with two levels of integration. The fi rst level enables the seamless exchange of data between ARCHIBUS application modules. This diagram depicts the second level of integration between other databases and platforms. ARCHIBUS allows organizations to leverage information from different data silos throughout the organization. For example, many end users want to enhance their reporting capabilities by linking ARCHIBUS with Finance, HR, or IT. ARCHIBUS connects directly to a variety of databases including Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, Microsoft, and JD Edwards. In addition, ARCHIBUS’ Geospatial extensions and Overlay for AutoCAD and Revit allows user to create new layers of information with mapping capabilities and building information models. GIS comes into play for real estate managers seeking to incorporate ESRI’s demographic data when choosing sites for new offi ces and other facilities. Building operation managers take advantage of ESRI’s mapping functionality to get a comprehensive view of their total infrastructure – including being able to track work orders across a campus. The ARCHIBUS Overlay for Revit enables users to track their assets from the design/build stage, through construction, and into the facilities management domain.

By enabling a bi-directional link between databases and applications, ARCHIBUS offers a modular-enterprise solution with robust reporting capabilities designed for middle management and the C-suite.

Solution FeaturesSeveral Web Central views included in V.18.2 implement ESRI’s ArcGIS Online. These views offer geo-coding of assets based on street address and visualization of building, property, lease locations, and more, as interactive symbols on a map in conjunction with other map layers, all within a Web Central browser session and without installing any GIS software on the client machine or ARCHIBUS Web Central server.

Online data and geo-processing services are provided by ESRI for on-demand consumption via any of a number of applications and APIs. Some of the data is free and premium services are available for subscription purchase. Built on ArcGIS Server 9.3 framework, so applications (e.g., Web Central views) written to consume data from ArcGIS Online can also consume data from users’ own GIS Servers and vice-versa.

Use Cases:Starting from the high level--a global view--one might use a GIS simply to visualize the locations of real property portfolio holdings anywhere on the globe. Drill in to select more detail via the logical groupings in the tree structure or via symbols on the map to see owned properties and purchase/sales transactions or leased properties with lease and option expirations. Additional map layers, like demographic and transportation information, can be brought in to assist in portfolio management decisions.

One can integrate Enterprise and GIS systems to improve decisions, reduce risks and errors, and discover connections and dependencies. ARCHIBUS solutions are empowered by combining Enterprise,

CAD, and GIS data and business logic.

Geographic drill-downs provide for portfolio details. Note thematic highlights, multiple locations plotted, satellite, street map, etc. Latitude and longitude values in the assets’ table determine marker locations. Latitude and longitude can be manually entered or automatically calculated based on street address through the click of a button. This process is called “Geo-Coding.”

AutoCAD Drawing Import ToolThe ARCHIBUS CAD Import Tool for ArcMap provides a convenient and powerful way to load CAD objects, that have been attached to ARCHIBUS database records, into a geodatabase. The tool selects and converts relevant CAD geometries into polygon features and adds an attribute fi eld by which the geodatabase features can be readily joined to the associated ARCHIBUS records. From there, symbologies, queries, and processing of the features can be informed by live data managed through the rest of the ARCHIBUS system.

Loading ARCHIBUS CAD data into a geodatabase involves two major steps. First is geo-referencing. The Geospatial Extensions provide a scripted tool for ArcMap that helps a user defi ne coordinate transformation data for a CAD document. In the image shown here, we are scaling, shifting, and rotating a fl oor plan to align it with a known building footprint.

Precise anchor points are defi ned. If these points are common between fl oors of a multi-fl oor building, the resulting coordinate defi nition fi le can be re-used for the rest of the building. A “world fi le” containing the x and y transformation information is saved to the drawings folder with a name that corresponds to the drawing fi le.

The Import CAD tool allows the user to adjust data sources, connection parameters, output feature class names, and asset type (building, equipment [point], room) to import. The ARCHIBUS CAD Import Tool gathers the geometry from the DWG and assets’ primary keys from the ARCHIBUS asset tables, then writes both to a geodatabase such that the resulting features may be readily joined to all the asset attribute information in the ARCHIBUS schema.
