During the month of January the warm days are perfect for wine tasting in Stellenbosch or lounging on the pristine white sands of Clifton Beach. The long evenings lend themselves to fine dining extravaganzas followed by clubs and cocktails well into the night.

While the general average temperature in Cape Town in January is a mild 26°C (79°F), the temperature is in fact a lot higher than this most of the time -particularly in the city bowl or along the beaches during the midday heat.

January is the driest month for the Western Cape, but tends to be right in the middle of the wetter season in the Kruger & Sabi Sands areas.

Peak holiday season ends in January making February a great time to plan a your trip. It’s dry season in the Western Cape & rainy season up in the Kruger/SabiSands, however rains are mostly short afternoon showers and seldom really interfere with your trip.

The mean temperature in South Africa in February is 26°C (79°F), but it can drop to low temperatures of 15°C (60°F) on the occasional cold day. Daily temperatures in February often tend to rise up into the mid 30s (90°F).

There is a small amount of precipitation in February in Cape Town, but usually this amounts to less than 5 days of rain throughout the month.

March is packed with sporting, lifestyle and cultural events catering to all tastes. Including the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour & North Sea Festival showcasing some of the finest South African and International talent.

The weather and climate in March is slightly cooler than its peak summer months, with temperatures range between 15 and 25°C (57 to 77°F) &occasionally hotter days reaching up into the 30s (80 to 90°F).

Game viewing can be quite slow, since the bush is thicker and wildlife is more difficult to spot.

April hosts the SA Cheese Festival as well as the annual Olive Festival . Daylight hours decrease dramatically this month and the winter rains begin.

Average temperatures in Cape Town during April are between 12 and 23°C (53 to 73°F), but there is also the occasional day when the temperature reaches up to the mid 30s (90s).

Rainfall in South Africa during April tends to happen throughout the month with more rainy days toward the end of the month.

This is a great time for bird watching and migratory birds are present.

By May, the Western Cape has entered its rainy season & may not be the best time for a beach holiday, however foliage is also less, which makes game spotting easier.

May marks the start of the famous Sardine run, where millions of sardine travel up the east coast of South Africa.

During the winter months many of the hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and bars arrange great specials to temp tourists and locals alike.

May is also a great time of year for those who enjoy surfing as the Red Bull Big Wave Surf Competition takes place

June in South Africa is midwinter, which have the least rainfall, except for the Western Cape with its Mediterranean climate - is a peak time for game viewing as a shortage of water means animals gather at watering holes.

Winter is also the perfect time to view the great white sharks at Seal Island in Cape Town

The winelands play host to a bunch of winter wine festivals this time of year as well.

Visitors travelling to South Africa during July should expect wet weather in the Western Cape, with drier weather in the Kruger & Sabi Sands areas.

Temperatures during July range between 7 and 17°C (44 to 63°F), but the temperature has been known to drop close to 0°C (30°F) and on a good day it can rise into the upper 20s (80°F).

Cape Town’s climate in July is perfect for those who enjoy winters by the fire, hot drinks and cozy evenings indoors.

Wildlife is easier to spot because there is less vegetation and animals gather around rivers and waterholes in the Kruger & Sabi Sands area.

July also marks the start of whale season.

August still marks winter in South Africa, and is the best time for superb game viewing in Kruger, Madikwe, Pilanesberg and KwaZulu-Natal as animals are concentrated around water sources and are easier to spot in the thinned-out bush. Temperatures have been known to peak at 32°C (90°F), but they generally

average between 8 and 18°C (46 to 65°F). August is a great time for whale watching as well as the Hermanus Food &

Wine Show for the perfect compliment. At the end of August the wildflowers are beginning to bloom as spring

approaches.

South Africa’s spring weather in September is perfect for visitors wishing to enjoy this scenic area without having to compete with large numbers of tourists or the multitudes of summer visitors.

Temperatures in September fluctuate between 9 and 20°C (48 and 67°F). One of the most popular reasons for visiting South Africa in spring are the flower

festivals. September is the peak time to view whales and their calves at the Hermanus

Whale Festival. As far as game viewing, now is the start of the best time to see newborn animals.

South Africa’s weather in October is mild to warm, with beautiful sunny days, crisp spring weather and long evenings. October is the end of spring in South Africa.

The average temperature during October is between 11 and 21°C (51 to 70°F), but the temperature often peaks over 30°C (86°F) during the midday and afternoon hours.

The climate in October is perfect for those who want to visit the beach but don’t want to battle the summer crowds or the summer heat.

Various minor venues and nightclubs host annual Halloween and Oktoberfest parties in October.

November isn’t as hot as peak summer; the beaches and tourist attractions are still relatively un-crowded and there are a number of wonderful events during the first of South Africa’s summer months, making November one of the best times to visit.

November is South Africa’s driest month, and average temperatures are between 14 and 23°C (15 to 73°F), but daytime highs often move above 30°C (90°F).

Summer is a season of cocktails and sundowners as well as sports and fun. November is also the beginning of strawberry and cherry picking season, families

can take a trip out to the winelands and picnic while picking delicious berries to take home at the end of the day.

South Africa in December is famous for its perfect Mediterranean summer weather in the Western Cape. It is perfect for visitors wishing to enjoy the beaches, winelands and beautiful mountains and hiking scenery.

Temperatures average between 15 and 25°C (60 to 77°F), however the peak hours during the day tend to be hotter than this average and visitors should expect temperatures in the 30s (90°F).

December is peak holiday season in South Africa. There are lots of events in December, including parties, concerts, festivals and markets.
