Scope of WorkScope of work of the project is to carryout dredging of the Al-Khafji

inner harbor and access channel and the renovation of the South Jetty and the construction of a new extension in order to enhance the daily operations. Also this Project will provide a larger materials yard adjacent to the loading and unloading area of heavy materials and safe berthing, metering, loading and unloading systems.

The dredging work includes widening of the existing navigable channel by 20 m in the inner part and 50 meters offshore, to a depth of (-6 m) CD, including final disposal of the quantity of about 800,000 m3 of soil.

Part I is dealing with the Dredging of Al-Khafji Inner Harbor and Channel.

Part II is dealing with the work of Renovation and Expansion of South Jetty, Al-Khafji. The activities coming under Scope of Work (Part II) can be summarized as below.

Construction of Quay Wall for a length of 980 meters with Pre-cast Concrete Blocks

• Fixing of Fenders.• Fixing of 30 Ton capacity Bollards.• Backfilling and RCC Concrete Paving Works• Backfilling and Asphalt Paving Works• Re-location of existing Navigation Buoys.• Fixing of SSD Fencing • Construction of Control Room / Recreation Building• Construction of Guard House and Tide Gauge House• Construction of Public Toilets.• Construction of Septic Tanks.• Construction of Oil Collection Pits, Spill containment cover roof,

concrete trenchers, bulk and chemical mix foundation, concrete pipe supports, light poles foundations.

• Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation works.• Shifting of existing bulk and chemical mix from North to South Jetty.

DREDGING WORKS DREDGING PROCEDUREThe entire dredging area has been divided into 3 zones. Top priority has been allocated to dredging of zone-1 where quay wall construction activity will have to be progressed after completion of dredging work

Initially C.S.D Arefjan will be mobilized at cut – 1 in zone – 1 and continue dredging from cut1 to cut 3 and pump dredged material through shore connection-1 while Al-Kassar will be dredging area Al-Kassar 3 in zone 2. After completion of dredging of cut 3, Arefjan will commence dredging of cut 4 and pump dredged material through shore connection 2. Al-Kassar will shift position from area Al-Kassar-3 in zone 2 and commence dredging in area marked Al-Kassar-1 in zone 1 and continue dredging of trench and side slopes thereafter.

Pre-cast concrete block placing will commence after dredging equipment have moved at least 100 m away from construction site.
