We promote motorcycle safety, training, & political awareness. We ARE NOT A CLUB OR A GANG. We fund our work through toy runs, poker runs, campouts, and other motorcycle activities. We are your neighbors & friends who work, pay taxes, and get involved with our community. We serve and support our country and believe in freedom. We use all legal means to protect our rights without infringing on the rights of others.

President’s Message
Hello Everyone!
These past couple of months has sure taught me a lot. As the song goes: Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign comes to mind. As we are all working together and getting involved it makes it easier every day.
Getting involved is important for all of us especially with our Veteran’s Ride and Bike Night’s coming up. The more the merrier, in my book, will get our message out there.
Don’t forget, October is the Avon Park Event! There will be music, food, biker games, and even things for the kiddo’s. It is gearing up to be a great event for bikers and families!
Anyone who would like to help out and volunteer, just sign up, information for all this will be in our newsletter. As always, if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns please call or email me.

Vice-President’s MessageGreetings Southwest Chapter. Here are some random thoughts from a random mind:
Plans are under way for our Veterans Christmas Ride. A committee has been formed and we’re hopeful of making this a very successful event. Save the date – Sunday December 20th. If you’re interested in serving on the committee or helping out the day of the ride, please contact me.Been a while since you’ve been to a Chapter meeting? Please come to our next meeting on Sunday, September 20th starting at 10:30 a.m. at Jersey’s Sports Café (Pondella and 41). This is your Chapter. Your officers put in many hours for the Chapter and seeing a good meeting turnout makes it all worthwhile. Another random thought: I own a 6x10 open trailer with a wheel chock. If any Chapter member needs the use of a trailer to move a motorcycle (or anything else), I am willing to lend it out. Just don’t ask to use my truck! There will be no charge but of course, a 12-pack of Budweiser cans is always a nice gesture. (Note: Trailer takes a 2” ball and has a four-flat plug for the lights.)

APPEALS COURT UPHOLDS DOCTOR-PATIENT GUN LAW

THE CAPITAL, TALLAHASSEE, July 28, 2015.......... For the second time in little more than a year, a federal appeals court Tuesday upheld a controversial Florida law that restricts doctors from asking questions and recording information about pa-tients' gun ownership.The 2-1 decision by a panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was a victory for the National Rifle Association and other gun-rights advocates and a defeat for medical groups that argued, at least in part, that the law infringed on doctors' First Amendment rights.The appeals court last July also upheld the 2011 law but issued a revised ruling Tuesday. After last year's decision, medical groups continued challenging the law, including asking for a rehearing before the entire Atlanta-based appeals court.Dubbed the "docs vs. glocks" law, the measure includes a series of restrictions on doctors and other health providers. As an example, it seeks to prevent physicians from entering information about gun ownership into medical records if the physicians know the information is not "relevant" to patients' medical care or safety or to the safety of other people.As another example, the law says doctors should refrain from asking about gun ownership by patients or family members un-less the doctors believe in "good faith" that the information is relevant to medical care or safety. Also, the law seeks to prevent doctors from discriminating against patients or "harassing" them because of owning firearms.A federal district judge in 2012 sided with opponents of the law and issued an injunction against it. But the appeals court last July and again Tuesday overturned the injunction."The purpose of the act, as we read it, is not to protect patient privacy by shielding patients from any and all discussion about firearms with their physicians; the act merely requires physicians to refrain from broaching a concededly sensitive topic when they lack any good-faith belief that such information is relevant to the medical care or safety of their patients or others,'' said the majority opinion, written by Judge Gerald Tjoflat and joined by Judge L. Scott Coogler.But Judge Charles Wilson wrote a lengthy dissent arguing that the law violates the First Amendment rights of physicians."Simply put, the act is a gag order that prevents doctors from even asking the first question in a conversation about firearms,'' Wilson wrote. "The act prohibits or significantly chills doctors from expressing their views and providing information to pa-tients about one topic and one topic only, firearms."The Republican-dominated Legislature and Gov. Rick Scott approved the law after hearing accounts of doctors unnecessarily asking questions about gun ownership or even refusing to continue providing care if such questions were not answered.In Tuesday's majority opinion, Tjoflat repeatedly pointed to instances in which doctors can continue justify asking about fire-arms, such as in the case of a patient considered at risk of suicide."Thus, a physician may make inquiries as to the firearms-ownership status of any or all patients, so long as he or she does so with the good-faith belief --- based on the specifics of the patient's case --- that the inquiry is relevant to the patient's medical care or safety, or the safety of others,'' the majority opinion said. "If, for example, the physician seeks firearm information to suit a personal agenda unrelated to medical care or safety, he or she would not be making a 'good-faith' inquiry, and so the act plainly directs him to refrain from inquiring."But Wilson's dissent raised questions about whether the law stemmed from anecdotal incidents. He also argued that doctors should have the right to ask questions about guns in addressing the well-being of patients."There is nothing to suggest that the doctors' inquiries or messages regarding firearms were not genuinely believed to be in the patients' best medical interest when given,'' Wilson wrote. "But there is evidence in the legislative history to suggest that the harassment provision (of the law) is designed to prevent these conversations from taking place in the future. That is certainly the result it will achieve. Doctors will largely cease inquiring into and counseling on the topic of firearms, lest they be accused of crossing the line between providing life-saving preventive medical information and promoting an anti-firearm political agenda."
SPECIAL SESSION IN OCTOBER FOR SENATE REDISTRICTINGJuly 28, 2015
Florida lawmakers will hold a special session in October to redraw Senate districts, Senate President Andy Gardiner and House Speaker Steve Crisafulli announced Tuesday afternoon. The special session is scheduled from Oct. 19 through Nov. 6 and stems from a Senate agreement with voting-rights groups that have challenged the constitutionality of the Senate districts. Lawmakers also are scheduled to hold a special session starting Aug. 10 to redraw congressional districts. The News Service will have a full report later Tuesday.
ABATE of Florida, Inc. is looking for families who have lost a family member or friend in a motorcycle crash that was the fault of another vehicle. The majority of people who kill or seriously injure a motorcyclist get a failure to yield, running a red light or some other minor traffic citation. It is time for the voice’s of those that have suffered this terrible loss to be heard up in Tallahas-see. It is time to address this problem before more loved ones are lost.ABATE of Florida, Inc. is Florida’s largest Motorcycle Rights Organization. We have Chapters all across the State of Florida made up of men and women who love riding and who want to promote motorcycle safety and motorcycle awareness to the general public. ABATE of Florida, Inc. is contacted many times each year by people who have suffered a loss and feel that a great injustice was done when the driver of the other vehicle only gets a small ticket. A recent example, I was contacted by a mother who lost her 21-year-old daughter while riding home one evening. Her daughter was wearing a full face helmet, armored rid-ing jacket and gear. The person who killed her turned left, running a red light, crossing several lanes of traffic before killing her daughter. The person was only given a ticket for running a red light.We are not just talking about motorcycles. We need to protect all the vulnerable road users on Florida roadways. Bicyclist, pedestrians, road construction workers, and all the others who have a legal right to travel on or near roadways. If you know someone who has been killed or seriously injured as a result of another vehicle driver’s negligence, please contact ABATE of Florida, Inc. and tell us your story.Sometimes the legislative / legal system needs a reminder that there is a problem. We are asking for your help to put a face and a story to the cold statistics. Dear Fellow Abate Members... When the Name of God is Never Mentioned
In the Book of Esther, do you know the Name of God is never mentioned?This is something we never realized, until it was brought to our attention with a Bible Handbook that we purchased, while waiting several extra hours at JFK, as the result of a cancelled flight (sometimes, we wonder why God would allow a cancelled flight, rather than just making everything seem to go so perfectly. Well, we guess it was to possibly inspire us with the theme of this newsletter).
Back to the original point... Even though the Name of God is never mentioned, the Book of Esther clearly shows how God protected and insulated the Jewish people from being
decimated. Even though God disciplines these people, He never deserts them. Further, the Book of Esther ends with the defeat of Israel’s enemies and a subsequent celebration!How many times do we sit in the company of other bikers, friends, family, or with fellow workers, and during the ensuing conversations, the Name of God is never mentioned? Or, if it is mentioned, it is not in an endearing way? Does that mean God is not with us? Does it mean that He does not hear us? Does it mean that He does not care for us? Of course not!If you grew up where there was a good father figure in your home, you then observed several things:
1. He provided for you.2. He disciplined you.3. He may have allowed you to go through some tough times to allow maturing and personal growth.
4. He was always there when needed.5. He loved you, no matter what!
Even if God is never in the conversation and if you have deliberately left Him out, if you reach out: My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.- Philippians 4:19 I will never leave you nor forsake you. – Deuteronomy 31:8 and Joshua 1:5 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16 I am with you always. – Matthew 28:29
So, the next time you have a conversation and the name of God is left out, please remember He is still there with love for you and the others you are with.
He’s always there. So, just allow Him to enter fully into your life with the following prayer: “Dear God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of Jesus, my heavenly Father, I confess that I am a sinner and have been separated from You. I ask forgiveness of my sins. I repent and accept this gift of repentance. I confess with my mouth that your son Jesus is my savior and died for me. I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. I receive Jesus into my heart and ask Him to become the center of my life. I ask, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.”2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”If you prayed that prayer for the first time and you really have accepted Him into your heart, please let us know.

Redistricting is going on up at the capitol.8. Doc Reichenbach, our lobbyist will be working on a stiffer penalty bill during the next secession.
OLD/NEW BUSINESSQ – Are we going to be having a booth at Cape Harbor?A – We are working on a game plan. Would really like people to take turns running a booth. We need to share in the responsibility. We could also possibly do 50-50 tickets at Fathoms. Also, our thought is maybe only doing one Tuesday night instead of every Tuesday.1. We still have tickets for the Abate Of Florida, Inc. $10,000 cash drawing. If anyone wants any tickets, get a hold of Shayne or Heidi by phone or email and we will get them to you.2. Avon Park – still looking for volunteers. Sign-up sheet in the newsletter. 3. We won’t be at Mug n Jugs this month. We will be attending the Bully Ride. It is something that Laurie and I are passionate about so we will be showing our support. Hopefully we will see many of you there.
