Special Olympics Western Australia recently sent a couple of

teams to the “Everybody’s Game” Tournament, organised and hosted by Basketball WA and supported by Inclusion WA.

Our teams led by Head Coaches, Julie Williams and Tim

Breadmore represented SOWA well in the competitions against

rival teams and programs from Roads; Swan Friendship Group;

and West Rise Basketball.

The afternoon held at the Basketball WA Stadium provided an

opportunity for our players to compete against teams of equal

ability. Ten teams competed in 3 games each; with the carnival

concluding with an All Stars match.

West Coast Waves and Wanneroo Wolf pack player Nikita

Martin attended the day and was represented in the All Stars

match, as well as being the guest referee.

Over 150 players and spectators attended the day and the exciting

and fun filled afternoon was well received by everyone. The

April carnival was the first of four for 2012.

Our Special Olympic Basketball programs held at Joondalup and

Mirrabooka will continue to train and work towards the ongoing

Carnival days.

With the introduction of a new basketball program for 6 – 8 year

olds at Hamersley Recreation Centre commencing in May, young

and upcoming players will develop skills and gain the confidence

to participate in future “Everybody’s Game” Carnival Days.
