1930-1933

General Elections in 1931 were won by Republicans, ousted the King peacefully.

Republicans instilled reforms to help liberate Spain

1932: Failed Military coup led by Jose Sanjurjo

1933: the Spanish elections resulted in a victory for right-wing CEDA party

1933-1936

January 1933- 25 people were killed by government troops who were attempting to catch some anarchists near Cadiz.

Azana resigned as prime minister and elections were called for November 1933.

Popular Front hence was formed

In a last minute attempt to avoid serious trouble, a general election was called for February 1936.

In this election, the Popular Front won and Azana, became president.

July 17 revolt starts in Spanish Morocco

The republicans were representing the workers and the middle class

The nationalists were representing the army and were more conservative
