BRITISh pAINTING 1750 - 1800The Museum holds a select representation of XVIIIth-century portraits, moment of cultural splendour in England, and the early XIXth century. The first floor exhibits works by Gainsborough, Reynolds and Lawrence.
ITALIAN pAINTING 1300 – 1800The Italian painting section spans a period from the first Renaissance –Fra Angelico, Mantegna, Botticelli– to the 18th century –Tiepolo–. Particularly outstanding are works by Rafael on the ground floor. Works by exponents of the Venetian school –Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Bassano– form one of the Prado’s most compact collections. Also exhibited are works by Caravaggio and Gentileschi on the main floor.
DRAWINGS AND pRINTSThe Museum houses nearly four thousand drawings. Particularly noteworthy is the collection of five hundred prints by Goya, the biggest in the world. Drawings and prints from the Prado’s collection are shown periodically in the museum’s exhibitions.
ThE ChURCh OF SAN JERÓNIMOThe Church of San Jerónimo el Real, situated behind the Museum, houses an important group of Spanish religious paintings from the 17th century, loaned by the Prado Museum and displayed in the different chapels. Among them are works by Alonso Cano, Antonio de Pereda and Juan Carreño de Miranda. These can be viewed during the church’s opening hours.

FLEMISh pAINTING 1430 – 1700From the 16th century the Netherlands were governed by the Spanish crown and this explains the wealth of Flemish painting in the Prado. The collections of paintings by early Netherlandish artists –Weyden, Bouts, Memling–, together with paintings by Bosch and Pieter Brueghel are displayed on the ground floor. On the main floor is the collection of 17th century Flemish painting, which includes works by Rubens Van Dyck and Brueghel.
