Synopsis

Event to unveil the new range of SpongeBob SquarePants Happy Meal in association with

Nickelodeon

McDonald’s and Nickelodeon held a press event at the Viacom 18 office with celebrity Karisma

Kapoor on April 3rd 2012 to unveiling the new range of Happy Meals available till the end of April

The event started with Karisma and Spongebob entering together. Post which Karishma unveiled

the ad through an audio-visual presentation

Karisma was then presented with the McDonald’s Happy Meal box and unveiled the Spongebob

toys available with the happy meal

Karisma gave a few media bytes and the event came to a close

There was a healthy media turn out with over 30 members of the press inclusive of mainlines,

regionals, electronic media, onlines and photographers

Nickelodeon & McDonald’s bring back SpongeBob Happy Meal

Nickelodeon and McDonald’s have partnered once again to bring to Indian kids one of their favourite toy characters – SpongeBob – in McDonald’s Happy Meals.

It is going to be introduced in 30 cities across all McDonald’s outlets. This meal would cost Rs 105 and kids would get to select their favourite avatar of SpongeBob. The initiative will continue for the next four weeks.

The meal will contain SpongeBob in eight different avatars – a scientist, CEO, astronaut, chef, painter, policeman, to name a few.

Commenting on the reason behind the tie-up of the channel with McDonald’s for the second consecutive year, SandeepDahiya, Senior Vice President – Consumer Products and Communications, Viacom 18 Media said, “Last year the response exceeded our expectation. The brand managed to sell about seven lakh SpongeBob Happy Meals. That pushed us to do it again this year.”

Nickelodeon will be promoting the Happy Meal on its channel. As kids watch cartoon channels, promotions on it will excite kids and create a buzz, shared Dahiya.

This association is mutually beneficial. Dahiya said, “With SpongeBob, McDonald’s will be able to bring a smile on the kid’s faces and Nickelodeon will be able to effectively engage children with its cartoon character.”

Come this summer, and kids are in for a treat. Going to McDonald’s will be merrier as they launched a new range of ‘SpongeBob SquarePants Happy Meal’ in association with kids channel Nickelodeon.

The Happy Meal with SpongeBob SquarePants will be available at every McDonald’s outlet across the country till 26 April. Viacom 18 Media SVP Consumer Products & Communications SandeepDahiya is all excited about the new tie up.

In the McSpicy range, the QSR has launched four new flavours that include the Mexican Spice Chicken Burger, Mexican Spice Vegetarian Burger, Spicy Shake Shake Fries and a Hot Garlic dip. Competitive experiments The move comes in at the time when competitor KFC has gone full throttle into spicing up its menu with Fiery Grilled Chicken, Hot Wings and spicy Zinger burgers. KFC’s comeback has been a success story as the brand has created connect with its TG, particularly the youth and the results are giving a tough time to McDonald’s to stay relevant in this space. The heat was on the moment KFC came into the QSR space. Both players have been experimenting with their products, flavours and pricing to attract consumer attention. Earlier it was the price war that led McDonald’s to launch the Rs 25 range and KFC to launch Streetwise range that fit the pocket of their young TG. Next step was to offer a larger spread of the menu so as to avoid product fatigue among consumers. Hence, it seems McDonald’s is all set to challenge competition with new product offerings. While KFC offers a more localised menu, McDonald’s McSpicy is a blend of Mexican, African and Asian flavours. The rest of the range includes Mcspicy Chicken Burger, McSpicyPaneer Burger, Mcspicy Chicken Wrap and McSpicyPaneer Wrap. The new variants will be available at all 243 McDonald’s outlets and are priced at Rs 79 for Mexican Spice Chicken Burger and Rs 69 for Mexican Spice Vegetarian Burger. The
