ABOUT WOMEN OF DISTINCTIONTM Women of DistinctionTM is an event that honours and celebrates inspirational women that are making an impact in our community. This year, we are celebrating 25 years of remarkable women leaders as 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the Women of DistinctionTM event in Guelph. Women are nominated and selected as honourees in several categories where their leadership, innovation, and community contributions are recognized. Women of DistinctionTM isn’t simply and event – it’s a season. A season of reflection, recognition, celebration, and community.

YOUR IMPACT Women of DistinctionTM sponsors directly impact our ability to further connect our community. Culminating in a 600-person gala at the beautiful River Run Centre in May, Women of DistinctionTM engages amazing women in our community and their supporters over a 6-month period. Honourees participate in an introductory evening with sponsors, attend an International Women’s Day event, and volunteer in the community together. Your sponsorship of the 2020 Guelph Y Women of DistinctionTM fundraising event presents your organization with a positive public image through awareness of the commitment to a very important cause – recognizing and celebrating the achievements of women in our community. Your sponsorship fosters community spirit and aligns your organization with Y values of – respect, responsibility, well-being, inclusiveness, and stewardship.

This celebration not only recognizes incredible community contributions, but also raises funds to support Guelph Y programs for girls and women at all stages of life including:

• POWER OF BEING YOU – Brings together two hundred grade 7 and grade 8 girls, speakers and workshop leaders, career and education organizations, teachers and volunteers for a day of empowerment and confidence-building.

• TEENAGE PARENTS PROGRAM (TAPPS) – Connects pregnant and parenting teens in a safe and non-judgmental space to share their experiences and work on parenting and life skills. TAPPs also provides these parents with a hot meal, community resources, and essentials for infants such as formula, diapers, and clothing.

• ENCORE – Supports women with breast cancer in a relaxation and exercise program. Encore provides a supportive environment where the women can share their experiences, concerns, and connect with one another.

In 2020, the Women of DistinctionTM committee has set a similar goal to have 1 in 4 event tickets financially subsidized so that more individuals in our community can join us on May 7 and be inspired! We will be connecting with local charities, neighbourhood groups and schools to ensure that the leaders of tomorrow who might not be able to attend will be given the opportunity to benefit from a night of inspiration and networking.
