SPORT AND RECREATION SECTOR
2017 OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATIONS The Distributing Agency for Sport and Recreation, established in terms of the Lotteries Act,
1997 (No. 57 of 1997, as amended), is once again in a position to consider applications for
funding from the proceeds of the National Lottery.
In adjudicating applications, the Sport and Recreation Distributing Agency (SRDA) will
focus on the following strategic funding areas, aligned to Government’s commitment to
focus on Sports Development, especially at grassroots level:
1. National Sports Federations can apply for a maximum Grant of R5 million or
more than R 5 million in exceptional circumstances:
Transformation & Development (minimum of 50% of value of the Grant Application);
International participation; and
Domestic participation.
Note: A detailed plan for the Transformation & Development must be submitted
with the application.
2. Provincial Federations can apply for a maximum Grant of R2.5 million for:
Transformation & Development (minimum of 50% of value of the Grant
Application);
Domestic participation;
Training and Development of coaches of Clubs and Schools funded by NLC during
2015, 2016 and current financial year. (The list will be provided during the signing of
the Grant Agreement).
Note: A detailed plan for the Transformation & Development must be submitted
with the application.

3. Affiliates to Provincial Federations (Districts) can apply for a maximum Grant of
R500,000.00 for:
Participation in leagues;
Sports equipment;
Transformation & Development.
Training and Development of coaches of Clubs and Schools funded by NLC during
2015, 2016 and current financial year. (The list will be provided during the signing of
the Grant Agreement).
Note: A detailed plan for the Transformation & Development must be submitted
with the application.
4. Sports Clubs can apply for a maximum Grant of R500,000.00 for:
New basic Sport facilities;
Upgrading of existing Sport facilities;
Participation in leagues for Clubs based in previously disadvantaged and rural areas
(maximum amount of R50,000.00);
Sports equipment (maximum amount of R100,000.00);
5. Public Schools can apply for an amount up to a maximum of R300,000.00 for:
New basic Sport facilities and upgrading of existing Sport facilities for Quintile
1,2,3 public schools;
Sport equipment and apparel; (maximum amount R50 000.00).
6. Sports NGOs (NPOs or NPCs) can apply up to an amount of R300 000.00:
Registered NGOs whose primary objectives are to implement Sport and
recreation –based programmes in communities.

The above Priority Areas will be applicable for the Financial Year 2017/2018.
The criteria for a decision to fund or not will be based on the strategic fit of the
application submitted. Applications that fall outside the strategic focus detailed above will
not be considered.
The Distributing Agency for Sports and Recreation will give preference to applications from
Organisations that advance the interest of rural, under-privileged and poor communities,
and those Provinces that have historically received less than the prescribed minimum
Sport allocation, as well as those Organisations that focus on Sport Transformation and
Development.
Applications for funding will be considered from registered Non-Profit Organisations
or Affiliated Sports Organisations that submit all the required documents and
information as outlined in the Sports Guidelines.
Applicants that are awaiting a response on previous application are advised not to apply
until they have received correspondence on the outcome of the previous application.
PLEASE NOTE:
Applicants who have been in existence for less than six (6) months may apply
through an Agent / Representative / Conduit.
Applications from Sports Councils will not be considered.
No applicant to whom a Grant was made by the National Lotteries Commission
will be eligible to apply for another Grant within a period of twelve (12) months
from the date of receipt of that Grant, irrespective of whether the project is
different to the one previously funded.
The twelve (12) month “Cooling-off” period will be counted from the date of the NLC’s
last payment to the beneficiary. Please refer to clause 11 of the Grant Agreement
signed with NLC. This condition is only applicable to Organisations funded under the

2015/2016 Call for Applications.
Applications will be categorised as follows:

The following applications will not be considered for funding:
Applications not on the relevant prescribed Application Form;
Faxed or e-mailed applications;
Applications on Compact Disc (CD) or USB Flash Drive;
Applicants that have not complied with the conditions of any previous NLDTF funding.
