SPORTS

Semi-‐Finals  and  Finals  Action  With  many  of  the  codes  heading  fast  to  the  end  of  season  finish  line  we  would  like  to  see  more  MMC  supporters  getting  along  to  cheer  on  our  teams  as  the  make  last  game  bids  to  semi  final  spots.

Games  to  look  out  for  Friday  night  MMC  Premier  Netball  are  playing  Otumoetai  Premier  to  keep  their  spot  at  number  2  on  the  table.    Saturday  home  games  include  MMC  U14’s  who  will  be  looking  to  cement  a  win  against  Aquinas  at  10.30am  followed  by  MMC  1stXV  that  will  be  playing  Te  Puke  here  this  weekend  with  a  12pm  kick  off.   Page

Sports  roundup  The  week  that  was…   Basketball  returned  to  ASB  Arena  last  Wednesday  with  MMC  Junior  A  boys  leading  the  charge  against  TBC  Junior  B  Boys.    After  a  tight  first  half  the  MMC  boys  stole  the  show  with  a  68-‐43  win  and  tyler  Roberts  taking  player  of  the  day.    Next  up  MMC  Senior  Boys  had  a  well  fought  win  over  Te  Puke  High  School  Senior  Boys  49-‐41,  and  finally  to  cap  of  the  evening  MMC  Senior  Girls  had  anbother  win  over  our  own  MMC  Senior  B  Girls  49-‐12.    Players  of  the  day  being  Ashley  Maylor  (SeniorA  Girls)  and  Sam  Hodge  (SeniorB  Girls).  woman's.    Hockey  took  2  excellent  wins  during  the  week,  starting  with  the  Girls  1stXI  who  beat  Bethlehem  College  2ndXI  5-‐1,  their  player  of  the  day  was  Merle  Sube.    The  boys  development  team  had  a  good  win  last  night  against  TBC  Juniors,  beating  them  5-‐1.    Friday  night  brought  clear  skies  and  the  return  of  netball.    MMC  Premier  hitting  the  court  against  Matamata  New  World  Premier.    A  strong  Matamata  side  started  the  game  with  it  looking  fairly  close  through  the  first  and  second,  unfortunately  for  Matamata  MMC  proving  way  too  strong  and  finished  the  match  with  a  final  score  to  MMC  50-‐30.    My  player  of  the  day  pick  going  to  Eva  Gibson,  who  played  some  of  the  best  netball  I  have  seen  from  her  yet.    Her  availability  through  court  was  fantastic  and  feeding  into  the  circle  was  phenomenal.

Netball  had  only  2  other  wins  over  the  weekend.    MMC  Junior  A  making  a  late  last  minute  bid  for  top  4,  with  a  win  over  Bethlehem  College  Prem  1,  34-‐29,  player  of  the  day  going  to  Levi  Painter.    MMC  Junior  B  also  taking  an  easy  win  over  Bethlehem  college  Prem  3  38-‐17.    Standout  performances  for  me  in  this  game  had  to  be  the  inclusion  of  Shayla  Taite  into  GA  position  at  the  half,  her  ability  to  balance  the  circle  and  confidence  to  take  the  shot  made  for  excellent  viewing.        Saturday  brought  with  it  fine  weather  and  the  Football  Boys  1stXI  at  home  against  Te  Puke  High  School.    MMC  Boys  Red  beating  Te  Puke  High  School  1-‐0  and  Toby  Griffiths  taking  their  player  of  the  day.    Rugby  started  the  day  with  MMC  U14s  hitting  the  field  against  Te  Puke,  in  Te  Puke.    Boys  were  reving  off  the  back  of  a  great  win  against  RBHS  Scarlett  earlier  in  the  week  and  were  out  to  prove  they  deserved  a  spot  in  the  top4  of  this  competition.    Sure  enough  the  boys  came  home  with  a  fantastic  55-‐19  win.

Looking  forward:    Volleyball  and  Water  polo  will  be  looking  to  start  gathering  registrations  over  the  next  couple  weeks,  all  those  JUNIORS  that  are  interested  in  participating  in  either  of  these  codes  will  need  to  register  online  and  ensure  you  are  aware  of  the  trial  fee/fees  that  need  to  be  paid  to  get  you  on  the  list.

Girls golf is taught by a girl, for girls!

It aims to give all young girls the opportunity to experience golf in a fun and supportive environment where they are free to be themselves.

On November 21st, I will be running in the Queenstown half marathon to help raise money for the start-up of this programme to ensure its success.

From 1st August to 31st October, I will be donating $1 for every km I run in training to our new Girls Golf initiative at Mount Maunganui Golf Club. My

goal is to run 300km.

If you’d like to show your support for the future growth of junior girls golf in The Mount, I’d like to extend the

opportunity to sign up to donate 10 cents (or an up-front donation) per km I run.

Thanks for your support! - Larissa Eruera
