Dear 5-5-1 Club participants,Welcome to the Spring edition of the 5-5-1 Club booklet.

In the Winter 2015 Lyngblomsten Lifestyle, Lyngblomsten announced its strategic priorities for the next five years with an emphasis on a philosophy of vibrancy. The philosophy that older adults want and can live life with purpose will be woven throughout all services of Lyngblomsten. Aging vibrantly includes taking care of your body, mind, and spirit with lifelong learning and the arts as the hallmarks. In many ways, it sounds like the programs we already offer through the 5-5-1 Club. The Club is a great place for older adults to come and thrive, learn, explore and belong. This new vibrant aging philosophy will complement our services beautifully!

To continue to grow in this new direction, 2015 will be a transition year for the 5-5-1 Club. Staff will be involved in the day-to-day programs but also involved in the planning of our future. In order to allow time for this planning work, we need to temporarily limit our classes and programs. We have intentionally scaled back so that we can explore and relaunch a similar, but new, 5-5-1 Club model. We are so glad you are part of this exciting time for Lyngblomsten. Stay tuned!

If you would like to learn more about Lyngblomsten’s five-year strategic priorities, you can pick up the winter edition of Lyngblomsten Lifestyle at the 5-5-1 Club or read it online at www.lyngblomsten.org/publications.

Many people over the age of 50 experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. Matter of Balance is an evidence-based approach to effectively manage falls and increase physical activity levels in older adults. If you are interested in improving your balance, flexibil-ity and strength, or are concerned about falls/have fallen in the past, this program is for you.

Registration will be available in the Summer 5-5-1 Club Program Booklet. Questions? Contact Deb Bowman at (651) 632-5335.

Volunteer Drivers WantedThere is a special need for volunteer drivers for local grocery store runs on Wednesdays, from 1–3 PM. On average, there are 8–10 tenants on the Lyngblomsten campus each week who depend on this service, and it bolsters our efforts to help keep them engaged in making their own food choices. Being able to choose can help maintain a sense of dignity and independence— something we all cherish.

If you have the time and desire to serve in this way, please contact: Mary Deaner, Transportation Coordinator at (651) 414-5293 or [email protected].
