3 | Risk-takerCourageous and strong, she’s keen to try new things and embrace the unfamiliar.
☙ Read a book - Read a book as a family that focuses on taking risks, trying new things, or learning from mistakes. Talk about how a positive attitude helps us accomplish anything we desire. After reading the story, think of one new thing you want to try as a family. Here are some book suggestions: The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires, The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper, Little Toot by Hardie Gramatky.
☙ Set a goal - Each day for one week set a family goal to try something new, different or challenging that day. Discuss why it is okay if you don’t get it right the first time. The important thing is to keep trying. At the end of the day, or while challenging yourself, use the following questions to help guide the conversation: ✭ What did you learn today? ✭ What did you try hard at today? ✭ What mistake did you make that taught you something? ✭ How did it feel to try something new?

☙ Show and recognize acts of caring - As a family, create happy faces and hearts to give out to people who are having a bad day (happy faces) or are showing kindness to others (hearts). Over the course of a few days, distribute your hearts and happy faces to people outside of your family. Discuss how it felt to show others you care.
☙ Take Action - What are issues your family cares about? Are you concerned about the environment? Do you love animals? Do you love to make others smile? Talk about what you might be able to do in your community (family, neighborhood, town, place of worship, etc.) to make the world a better place. Ideas might include: ✭ Beach or trail clean up ✭ Bring joy to others by bringing flowers to residents of a nursing home, making cards for troops overseas, making toys or dog biscuits for an animal shelter. ✭ Help around the house - With your girl, think of at least one thing each person in the family can do to help the family for a week.
1 | Go-getterShe’s bold, honest, and determined to succeed. In her mind, failure is an opportunity to learn and to get back up and try again.
☙ Draw your family - As a family, talk about what each person in your family is good at and what motivates them. Have each member of the family draw a picture of him or herself, or use big paper to draw an outline around each person’s body and decorate inside the outline. Be sure to include some of the ideas you talked about as a family.
☙ Read a book- As a family, read a book about a real life or fictional go-getter. After reading the book, talk about the character and what made her a go-getter (determined, honest, ambitious, self-starter). Then create a skit or puppet show about your own go-getter character. Some book suggestions include: Henrietta the Greatest Go-Getter, Grace for President, Rosie Revere, Engineer, Madeline, The Paper Bag Princess, or one of your own favorites.

☙ I Never Thought of That - Gather a few everyday objects such as a trash bin, a shoe, and a pencil. With your girl, try to think of as many uses for each item as you can. You can also turn this into a game where players team up and all teams try to think of as many uses for each item as possible in a minute. Points can be awarded for unusual and different ideas.
☙ Create a Rube Goldberg Machine - With your girl, gather some everyday household items such as
toilet paper or paper towel rolls, masking tape, a marble, aluminum foil, and more. Together, create a simple Rube Goldberg machine to get a marble or ball from point A to point B. Make sure to let your girl take the lead and be creative!

In Girl Scouts, girls are in charge – it is what makes Girl Scouting unique and meaningful. Girls take the lead in their experience by making decisions, learning by doing, and working together. Our Sprouting Daisies Patch Program is a perfect opportunity to let your girl take the lead in her own learning.
There are four steps to earning the patch, each with two options. As you work together, give your girl the options and let her choose which activities she wants to do. It will be fun for you to see where she goes with it, and it will be fun for her as she unleashes the power of G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk Taker, Leader)TM.
