What an enjoyable ational Convention at Gosford! Although there was only one Leader and two Cuers from the R.D.A.V. they did a great job for Victoria. I was really proud of our two newest Cuers, Adrian Weise cueing at his second Convention and Fiona Callaghan at her first.

They came on the stage appearing calm and authoritative and delivered their cues clearly with such excellent timing the dancers were in no doubt about what to do.

~ They did you proud! Victoria's Showcase, 'The Skye Boat Song', was very well received thanks to the presenters Paul Henderson with Fiona Callaghan, Adrian Weise with Rosanne Dickinson, Chris and Graham Nash and Carol Simondson with myself and of course the Cuer, Beryl Harcourt. A special thanks to Christine ash for providing the tartan sashes for all the dancers and the Cuer, these made the presentation extra special. Now we look forward to the V.S.D.A. State Convention at Sale in a few weeks. See you there for more Round Dancing.

After spending some lovely weeks on the coast of SWat the close of the ational Convention, it was not pleasant to come home to some very miserable autumn days in Melbourne.

At the Sunday morning AGM, the vote was cast and Perth will be hosting the 50th

National Convention in 2009. Thank you to all the dancers, who came along to give their support to the Victorian bid. In 2007, the National Convention will be hosted by S.A. and we hope to see many dancers gather in Adelaide in June next year.

The city of Sale is ready to receive all our Victorian dancers for the State Convention. It is not too late to register. Forms are available on the website www.squaredance-victoria.com Another great State Convention awaits you. Don't forget to bring the "Winter woollies" to dress up on Sunday night for "Winter Wonderland" and the free dance demonstration in the shopping mall of Sale on Saturday.

Another free dance will be held on Sunday 20th August, starting at 1.30pm. The VSDA Annual General Meeting is free for members. Please take your membership card, so entry can be processed quickly

The Committee for the VSDA Dinner Dance on Friday 17th ovember is getting organised. The theme this year is "Spots and stripes". The dinner menu has been chosen. A different array of finger food will be offered when sherries are being served. The main meal is either chicken or lamb (special dietary requirements can be catered for) and desert of apple cake and fruit salad. Yummy! What a feast and we can dance the night away! Ticket prices have not been set. The Committee hopes to keep the same prices as last year.

The next RDA V meeting and workshop will be held Saturday 8th July. Same place (S urrey Hills), same time. The workshop will be the "Jive" rhythm and the Jive Experimental dance of the ational.

Hi everybody. Seems such a long time since last issue. Since then club life has been very busy. Twelve of us went along to Peter's dance at Rosebud and had a good time. We started a beginners group in April, good response from our local paper ad (a freeby!) and still getting calls. Nice to have so many visitcrs and thank you Georg~ and Graham B for your calls. Last week we had visitors Jean & Roy from WA on thl way back from Gosford Convention and all smiles about winning the 50 th

. We wish them all the best. This week we had a graduation night with 10 graduates taking part. Congratulations! Thank you Alan & Bev Brown for doing the presentation. Everyone doing the Dressed Set very busy sewing (just the girls) and looking forward to the Convention. We will be closed on Thurs 8th June as a lot of dancers will be away.

How do we fit everything in! Ken & Max' s 70th Birthday Dinner was great. We've had a few weeks away from Wednesday Plus as many of our dancers have been on holiday. Joan & Reg caught up with Les & Phil for dinner and a dance over at Burra -thanks Neil, Jean and dancers for a warm welcome and lovely time. Our club birthday was super with visitors from Heartlands, Token, Southern Cross, Sovereign City, Burra and Essendon. Thanks everyone who hoofed it up the highway to dance with us, to Bill from Heartlands, Barry from Token Squares and to our very own Karen for calling for us, and special thanks to Bendigo Squares dancers for all their help in & out of the kitchen. It was especially wonderful to see Christina & Bill on the floor again. We have a full card next month with club dances, Christina's birthday and our Christmas in July dance. Just about everybody is back from the convention at Gosford and extended trips now. It was a good convention and our dress set did us proud. There was plenty of fun, (imagine giving eil a master key at the motel). Jean & eil after leaving early just got back home in time for the birth of their Granddaughter. Thanks go to Frank Kennedy for filling in for eil at the club, while he was at the convention. Those that went along to Westgate's birthday had a great time as usual. We have had visitors in the past month from, Essendon, Whitehorse, Westgate, Diamond Valley, also Reg & Joan Jordon from Bendigo. A very big thank you to everybody for coming along and supporting the Royal Children's Hospital 12 hour fundraiser dance. We raised $1190.50 for the kids, also thanks to our tireless helpers for your hard work. Thirteen of us attended the ational Convention in Gosford and had a wonderful time, ajob well done by the organisers. Congratulations go to our dressed set, Rosanne and Adrian for participating in Victoria' s showcase and Ralph and Adrian for their calling and cueing, well done everybody. Thanks to Tiger Squares for visiting on Easter Saturday. Congratulations also to both Pegasus rounds Thursday and the Geelong Club Dancers for their recent birthdays and thanks for your hospitality. ~ With the National Convention now over, we set our sights to club events and then the State Convention. Our club members all enjoyed the ational at Gosford, though a few of us had some nasty experiences on the way there and also at the Convention. Dennis had a bad fall from an over excited camel and came out second best, and Mary fell and broke her arm, at Gosford in the car park. We hope both dancers will soon be on the mend again. Well done to Peggy and Michael who enjoyed their first Convention with us, and have already signed up for the next. Congratulations to Howard on his prestigious award and found himself speechless, that's not like Howard to be lost for words!! Well done Howard. Bill's brother and sister in law, John and Ann Rowe, celebrated their 59th

Easter was great with club dancers going to Speewa, some for the first time. The ~paddleboat ride,dance and later enjoying a great meal on the river bank was fun. Some

went up to Gosford and attended the ational Convention. Eight people representing the club in the dressed set parade these being Caroline, Paul , Ellen, Graham, Karen, Mark, Shirle & Fred. What a fantastic effort. They danced and displayed their outfits beautifully. A few pre dance nerves I'm sure. A very large display of sets with around 60 sets being registered. A beautiful array of colour with many different styles of outfits. Congratulations organizers for a very enjoyable convention. Next was Cambells Creek, Westgates birthday, Back to the shed at Glenrowan and Jaybees birthday some attending these functions for the first time. See you at the combined dance on the 4th June. We are now dancing most of the Basic program and everybody still enjoying themselves. We have had a few people who attended Speewa and also the National Convention recently, which has meant that we have been down a little in numbers on most nights. We wish Robyn & Les and Ken a safe and happy holiday as they head north for the winter. Joern has already left for Germany and Tom is due to leave for Britain in June. It is good to see Pauline back dancing after her recent surgery, and we believe that Dorothy is also recovering well. We appreciate the heaters in the hall on these chilly nights but once we get dancing we soon warm up. During the winter months it has been decided to finish half an hour earlier.

Country hospitality just can't be faulted, Des Deveraux and his crew of helpers turned it on again for all those in attendance at Speewa to have a specially happy Easter. Peter and the other callers gave us a great work out at the Barn and on the "Kookaburra". With the Convention following, our group was in recession for three weeks, so a "Pot Luck Dinner" was organised at the hall. It gave us all a chance to eat, drink, and enjoy the company of fellow dancers, and get to know our beginners better. They're a friendly lot and coming on at a great rate with their dancing. The meal was exceptional. A group of us young'uns went to Domain Seahaven Nursing Home at Inverloch to entertain a most appreciating audience of sweet seniors, real toe-tappers they were. And soon we'll be off to "The Shed", perhaps we'll see you there! All for now L.O.W.

April was a busy month with dancers going to Speewa at Easter and then others to Gosford to the National Convention. The organisers did a great job with a very suitable venue, terrific decorations and lots of fun dancing. After the convention we welcomed some Tasmanian dancers to our dance and then it was time for "Shed" clean-up ready for "Back to the Shed" Dance with Peter Humphries. Thank you to our visitors for coming and to Peter who kept everyone moving with some interesting and enjoyable dancing. Delicious food, lots of laughing and happy faces. Thank you to Peter for workshopping some plus movements on Sunday morning. In June, July and August we dance on Sundays starting at 3.00pm and going home at 8pm before the frost has time to settle on our shoulders.

'Tis Winter and what better way to warm up than dancing with all your Square Dancing friends. We had a great trip up to Heathcote to dance with Bill Pendlebury's

~new club Heartland Squares. We checked out the local market and then had a delicious BBQ lunch followed lots of dancing. Bill has a group of enthusiastic dancers and the makings of a very successful club. Heathcote is a long way from Melbourne and how Bill managed to drive down and back each Monday night we do not know. Wouldn't be so good now, what with the price of petrol not to mention bananas. Hot cross Buns and lois of Easter eggs were eaten at our pre Easter dance. Thank you to Barry Wooten who helped out recently while Ken was delayed playing trains . That's all for now. Hoppalong

It 's been a busy couple of months with lots of travelling to various functions. Firstly, there was the Speewa Easter Hoedown. Once again Des and his gang provided a great weekend. A lot of us travelled from Speewa to Gosford for the ational. What a great weekend it was. Congratulations to .S.W. on ajob well done. Thanks to our dressed set who represented us so well. We even brought some decorations home from the National for our Mad Hatter's Tea Party. The tea party was a great night with 50 odd people all wearing their weirdest hats . We also had a few of us attend the Campbells Creek weekend. An enjoyable weekend was had by all. We are all looking forward to the Back To The Shed dance, the State Convention and Island 8's birthday coming up in June. Catch you next month. ~

It seems like we have spent the last 2 months travelling. From Speewa to The National convention at Gosford, and back to Campbells Creek. Then we had our own Mad Hatters Tea Party. What a great night that was. I didn 't know that there were that many crazy hats. The recently completed plus learners are continue to improve in their plus dancing. Also the Al group are dancing well. We will progress into A2 in the next couple of weeks. Scary. We all wish June a speedy recovery from her recent operation. As usual the club is closed in June to allow for the State Convention and Phillip Island club birthday. Good to see Em back on the floor dancing again. Mal and Lyn are taking an extended trip after the National Convention so we won't see them until September time.

~ Congratulations to Westgate for a wonderful2ih Birthday dance. Up to the usual high standard. It would give a lot of satisfaction to Westgate ' s 10 year callers and their band of willing workers. That time of year again when our caller and his good lady head North to a warmer climate. Frank tells us the warmer weather does wonders to his old bones. He is already working on his caravan and tinnie getting ready. While in Queensland Frank has again registered for their State Convention in Rockhampton and reports they have a wonderful venue. A recent one night stand in Conhuna was a huge success but it was held outside on a basketball court. Frank swears there was a frost. The locals seemed to handle it okay but Frank reckons it was freezing. They have a repeat booking but inside a hall! Saturday 17th June is our last night before going into recess. We re-open on Saturday 7th October. The Seagull

With the National Convention now just a host of happy memories we start looking forward to our own State Convention. There is a great Round Dance programme organized and the "Theme Night" will provide some new dances. I'm told that Fiona did a good job of running the club during the two weeks Mike & I were in SWat the Pierce ' s teach weekends. Thank you Fiona! All the Showcase entries were very well received by everybody who attended the RDA V workshop on Saturday 20th May. "Come a Little Bit Closer" was 1 st showcase winner from last years entries, "What the World eeds ow" 2nd and "The Battle of ew Orleans" 3cd

• Our new dancers are now adding Two Step to their repertoire as well as working hard to master "Serpiente" in Rumba. The other group grappling with Whisk, Wing, Telemark, Hover Fallaway and Impetus turns . In both Waltz & Foxtrot rhythm!!! Beryl, Mike & Fiona

Things going along well with us here in Merimbula. Pam and George counting down the days until they disappear overseas on 8th July for nearly four months, and club members are looking forward to having Thelma and Kevin Richardson at the helm once more. Pam & George were most surprised and pleased to run into Lyn & Mal from Whitehorse and their English relatives Sarah & Bill when they were on a walk at Bright during their Golden Wedding Anniversary celebrations. It is a small world. Congratulations to Ursula on another grandchild. Having one or two workshops at home to get some more of our dancers up to Plus level. We recently welcomed visitors Christine & Kevin (Rambling 8's Brisbane) and Margaret & Willy (JayBees &

Our dress set is busy practising for the convention and Suzie is busy sewing the outfits . We are sorry to hear that Mary has had a stay in hospital - we wish her well. Ian is back dancing after his hip operation. Straight after the State Convention it will our birthday - see advert this issue. Format will be as for last year. Saturday night in the hall complex where there will be old time dancing to a live band in the main hall and square dancing (Mainstream) with some rounds in the side hal!. You can wander from one room to the other as you wish all for one small entry fee . Then on Sunday we will have our main dance at the Wool shed just Skm Melbourne side of Rosedale. Look for the signs on the road. Bring a plate of sandwiches for lunch and something for afternoon tea.

Our Easter Saturday was a 50/50 Dance of Squares and Rounds. The Easter Bonnets were delightful and most colourful while the Easter Bunny was busy supplying Easter Eggs for everyone. The Easter buns were also much appreciated. We had a very enjoyable Mother 's Day night when all the ladies received a small gift. The men supplied a very amazing supper - some were even home made - but all were delicious! Thanks for all for joining in and making it a fun-filled night. Congratulations to Bonnie & Austin on the safe arrival of their 2nd granddaughter. Get well wishes to Victor De Majo, Tom Edgeley and Gordon Fenney. We hope to see you all back on the dance floor soon.

The highlight of the month was our 47th Birthday. A large crowd was present despite the fact that some members were still away at the National. evertheless everyone who attended enjoyed themselves. Thanks to Cuers Ray, Fiona and Phillip. Unfortunately, Beryl had not returned from the ationa!. Thanks to Carmel Sinclair who represented the VSDA and to Carol Simondson on behalf of the RDA V for your kind words. Thanks also to everyone for the lovely food you provided for tea which was quite a banquet and most welcome on such a cold day. In his speech to Ella, Ray Deamer made mention of the numerous changes and teaching methods which have been made to Round Dancing over the past 47 years and he congratulated Ella on being able to keep up with these changes, which is not an easy task. Well done Ella!

Hi gang sorry I missed last issue. On our pancake night we had a great dance and lot's of pancakes thanks to Dianne and her pancake plate. The 12 hour dance was another great amount raised. We had great time and the National and glad to see Ed and Dianne have come back with some great ideas. A couple ofus attended Sovereign' s Birthday thanks David, Helen and dancers for a great night. For our mother's day night all the ladies got a rose, congratulations to Kerensa on winning the Mother's Day raffle. From all reports the National Convention at Gosford was a huge success. Unfortunately this scribe could not attend, but those of our dancers who went, returned with glowing:~ remarks. To all committees involved; well done. Some of our lot went to Westgate's 27th Birthday Dance, where we were met by some very strange sights, expressing the "B" theme. A great night enjoyed by all. Some of us also went to Bendigo Squares 9th ' Birthday dance and had a wonderful time. Our 81 /2 Birthday Dance will be a one off Social Dance ... see ad this issue, and our 9th Birthday Dance will held as usual on the first Sunday in February 2007. Only ones still up north after the Gosford convention is Tony & Mary, everyone else back to normal. Those who went up there had a good time except for Mary who had a fall & fractured her wnst (fine now). Our dress set was with 49 others on the floor & it was a great sight. Jean & eil only just arrived home in time for the birth of their granddaughter. Amateur caller's night went off o.k., thank you to all who took part. Our Birthday dance was a big success once again; thanks go to all the dancers & callers who made it so. Also a big 'Thank you' to Joy & Robert for making most of the decorations, and of course June D. who made the beautiful cake. Thank you to all our visitors this month.
