Fromv1.63oftheServiceSupportTool,adifferentdriverisprovidedforthispurpose.The installer will place files necessary for this driver onto the target PC along with the Service Support Tool. The installation steps detailed here will need to be performed, only once, in addition to the standardServiceSupportToolinstallation.Again,thisisonlynecessaryonWindows98PCs. Also, this installation requires the device (i.e. an imageRUNNER 2000) to be connected to the PC that has the Service Support Tool installed on it.NOTE: If the USB driver for Windows 98 was installed from the Service Support Tool v1.41, it MUST now be uninstalled and replaced with the one included with the current Service Support Tool version.RemovalTo remove the USB driver from Windows 98, double click on the MSUSBUN98.exe file included withtheServiceSupportToolinstallation.ThisfileislocatedintheC:\Program Files\ServiceSupportTool\inf\usbprint folder for a standard Service Support Tool installation on Windows 98.Whenthisprogramisexecuted,itwillaskiftheuninstallationshouldbecontinued,asshown below:Service Support Tool User ManualInstallation/Setup Instructions : 4-17Click Yes and the driver will be removed. To complete the removal, the computer will need to be restarted.Once the driver is removed, follow the steps in the next section to install the new USB driver.InstallationConnect the PC and the machine via a USB cable. The units directly affected are those that utilize the flashing method described in Section 6C and its related subsections. Most of this modification is not displayed in a visual fashion, but there are some new files and potential messages that can be observed. These will be detailed here.TwonewfilesareincludedaspartoftheServiceSupportToolinstallation-thesefilescanbe observedintwolocations.ThesefilesarelocatedinthemainServiceSupportToolinstallation folder (C:\Program Files\ServiceSupportTool by default) and will also appear in the folder where firmwaredataisstored(C:\ServToolbydefault).ThefilesarenamedFirmID.mtband VerFilter.mtb. It is also possible to see these same files with a .buk extension appended to them - this would indicate that the file was modified and the file with the .buk is the original file saved as a backup. These files are collectively referred to as maintenance tables and will control the processing and availability of data files for the appropriate machines within the Service Support Tool. Processes that can be affected are the flashing of individual data files with the Single option discussed in Section6C1andthepreparationofaUSBMemoryDeviceasdiscussed inSection6C5.These files contain information about copier models and firmware/System Software versions. There are default files that are included when the Service Support Tool is installed.Since new models will be introduced, and current models will have System Software upgrades, there is a mechanism for the files included with the Service Support Tool to get updated to contain the latest information. This will be done in the form of some extra files that will be included on appropriateSystemSoftwareCDsandwithappropriatedatafilepostingsone-Support.These update files will have an extension of .rec. These files will contain the information that needs to be added to the default files included at the Service Support Tool installation. The .rec files can be registered just as normal data files are registered. If a .rec file is processed in this manner, the updates that it contains will be processed and the FirmID and VerFilter files will beupdatedasnecessary-iftheupdatesarealreadyincludedinthefiles,theywillnotbe modified. If a Batch Registration is performed, any .rec files found while searching will also be processed automatically. Howver, if an individual data file is registered off of a System Software CD,the.recfileontheCDwillNOTbeautomaticallyprocessed-itMUSTberegistered manually.Potential indicators of out-dated maintenance tables are as follows:1. A Run Time error can occur when using the ALL or ALL_HDF files.2.
