POPE FRANCIS—PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR JULY
Evangelization: Those distant from the Christian faith That our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the Gospel, may rediscover the merciful closeness of the Lord and the beauty of the Christian life.
Pastor’s Corner Thank you to all those who have already turned in their offertory pledges for this
fiscal year; your generosity and willingness to serve the parish are apparent! Your offers
of volunteerism are greatly appreciated and we will certainly be reaching out to you as
the need arises! Thank you too to all those who signed up for E-giving, which really helps
us to plan more effectively by having stable income. While some may say, “I’m too old for
that tech stuff!”, I know of at least a couple of our more ‘senior’ members who have been
happy to have one less regular check to write! If you need any help setting it up, our staff
is happy to help you if the instructions we gave in the envelope aren’t clear. In any case, if
you haven’t yet turned in your pledge support, please pray over the decision and turn it in this week if possible. I’m
excited for the possibilities this next year holds for all of us, and I hope that you are too. Please remember to offer
prayer as part of your offering as well, since without prayer, we can do nothing! Indeed, the great things done this
last year were only possible because of prayer.
If I think about what we’ve done this last year, the list is pretty amazing, and practically ALL of it was
donated outside of offertory! Many things needed fixing in our infrastructure. We replaced our ancient, broken
phone system as well as several computers. We installed the brand new sound system last summer and replaced the
lightbulbs in church and painted the conduits on the ceiling, as well as replacing the office lights with LED’s. We
also installed ductless Heat/AC in the Ed Center Chapel, making it far more pleasant to have mass during summer
and winter. And, we purchased a simultaneous translation app service called ‘Interactio’ so that our all-parish
masses and events can be a more seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone, English and Spanish speaking
alike! Almost everything was donated because those things weren’t in our budget. Through security grants and
individual donations, we’re continuing to upgrade security with cameras and alarms, as well as contracting with a
nightly safety patrol to eliminate drug activity on campus, keeping our kids safe. And all of that is just on the
physical plant and infrastructure side!
On the teaching front, we did a parish wide bible-study through the whole bible in a year, purchased a
parish subscription to FORMED.org (which you should check out—it’s free for you!) and had 80-some people going
through the ‘Wild Goose’ series in preparation for Pentecost. We had 2 visits of the relics of St. John Paul II this
year (AMAZING!!!) as well as Fr. Brian Mullady’s guest talk on the Rosary for the 100th anniversary of Fatima.
Our marriage prep has gone from just meeting with the pastor a couple times to now involving mentor couples, and
the series ‘Beloved’ on FORMED—which is also available in Spanish! Norma ran a very successful Religious
education program with 100’s of kids as well as Camp St. Alice which continues to be fruitful. And many more
things!
All of this was done out of love by a few dedicated people. To be honest, many of these things would not
have been possible without unexpected bequests and large gifts both of money and time from individuals who
believe in the mission. Imagine what we could do if everyone gave of themselves in this way? What if every family
gave to God as much as they give for their favorite pastime? If every family gave as much to church as they do to
their cable or cell-phone company, or as much time in prayer as on the phone, we would change Springfield! As we
have been working hard this year, especially during Lent, to rid ourselves of idolatry, let’s take a leap of faith this
year and put God first, above our pleasures, and let Jesus re-order our priorities. Most of all, let’s pray together for
the spread of Christ’s kingdom in our families and our world!
Love,
Fr. Mark
