WE ENCOURAGE ALL TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE BIBLICAL PASSAGES THAT

WILL BE PROCLAIMED AT ALL THE MASSES

First Reading — I will lead the people to brooks of water, on a level road, so that none shall stumble (Jeremiah 31:7-9). Psalm — The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy (Psalm 126). Second Reading — It was not Christ who glorified himself, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you (Hebrews 5:1-6). Gospel — Immediately the blind man received his sight and followed Jesus on the way (Mark 10:46-52).

Reflections on Today’s Readings:

FOCUS: Jesus calls us to lay down our lives in humble service to God and neighbor. In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that He did not come to be served by others. Rather, He came to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many through His ultimate sacrifice. This means that all those who sincerely aspire to live as disciples of Jesus must be willing to lay down their lives in love and service to others.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading tells of the faithful servant of the Lord who gives his life as an offering for sin. The second reading exhorts us to confidently approach the throne of grace. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant.

Ministry equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

Ask Your Kids Open-Ended Questions - Communication is key for making sure you are up to date with

your kids’ lives – as they grow older and you can’t be with them every step of the way. One way to keep communication healthy is to ask your kids open-ended questions. Some kids don’t open up and spill every detail, so you have to consider how to phrase questions that draw them in and allow them to share their thoughts and experiences. When you do ask open-ended questions, make sure you are patient in waiting for the answers. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS® article email: [email protected].

Ministry in Community…

FACT OF LIFE: October is both the month of the Holy Rosary and Respect Life Month. Governor Brown just signed a bill that defies common sense and which degrades the sacredness of life. We must pray the rosary for a change of heart for our state and our nation. Physician Assisted Suicide will be the law of our land unless somehow this law can be overturned. Brown, raised Catholic and Jesuit educated, stated that he had listened to our Bishops, medical professionals, and his friends. But, it finally came down to what he would do. This thinking, where we make ourselves as God, is sadly behind so many life issues. We, as Christians, must care for the elderly, infirm, depressed, and physically challenged, not let them feel that they are literally “better off dead.” Intercessory: That all Catholics will pray for the weak and vulnerable in society, and work to secure their dignity.

Kids Living Faith: 29th Sunday In Ordinary Time,

October 18th, 2015.

“Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to [Jesus] and said to him…”Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at your left.” ...Jesus summoned them and said to them, “...the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve…” - Mark 10:35, 37,42, 45

Many of the people who followed Jesus were hoping He would make Himself king and ruler over all. Some even hoped He would make them His special helpers when He took charge. They believed that Jesus was important, and they wanted to be important too. But Jesus had news for them. He wasn’t planning to take over anything. He came to love and to serve other people. He wanted his followers to do the same. That’s what He wants from us too!

“Lord Jesus, help me love and serve others the way you did.”

October, 2015 The month of the Rosary

The Family that prays together, stays together. "It could be said that each mystery of the rosary, carefully meditated, sheds light on the mystery of man. 'Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you' (Ps 55:23). To pray the rosary is to hand over our burdens to the merciful hearts of Christ and his Mother. The rosary does indeed 'mark the rhythm of human life,' bringing it into harmony with the 'rhythm' of God's own life, in the joyful communion of the Holy Trinity, our life's destiny and deepest longing. Through the rosary the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer." Saint John Paul II
