January 6, 2013 The Epiphany of the Lord
FINDING GOD The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash and solemnity, march right up off the pages of Matthew’s Gospel and into our churches today. Matthew alone tells us this grand and seductive story so that we might see the light and know that the child these magi visited is the fulfillment of prophecy, the king of the world that stretches to the magi’s home country and beyond, right down the ages to us. We too see and understand anew. Like the magi, our patron saints for this day, we see in the newborn child the king of the universe and light of the world. Like the magi, we find in ourselves a new faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our home by a new route. We are asked to come away from this festive sea-son ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of God among us. We are asked to find God where God is to be found, to be attentive and surprised and ready to bow down in adoration and to offer our gifts. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

READINGS AND QUESTION OF THE WEEK FOR January 6, 2013
FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12 ADULTS: When have you been jealous or fearful of another person? When are such feelings harmful? CHILDREN: When have you been jealous because something good happened to another person instead of you? What is the problem with feeling that way? CHRISTMAS VACATION Students will return to classes on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Monday through Wednesday classes will resume January 14-16. SECOND YEAR PARENTS During Christmas vacation, please keep working with your son/daughter to prepare them to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation. Pray the Act of Contrition often so that they can say it by heart. Put Saturday, January 19, 2013, on your calendar if you haven’t done so already, for the Second Year Family Retreat from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. We will meet in the parish hall. ELEMENTARY TEACHER NEEDED IMMEDIATELY! We are in need of a Third grade teacher on Wednesday immediately. The hours are from 4:00-5:45 p.m. If you can be of help, please call 252-6950. We wish Marie Graham a speedy recovery and thanks for all her years of service to our parish.
In this Year of Faith, we are called to experience a conversion – to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with him. The “door of faith” is opened at one’s baptism, but during this year Catholics are called to open it again, walk through it and rediscover and renew their relationship with Christ and his Church. St. Clare’s Faith Enrichment mission is exactly that! Let us walk in Faith together! During the Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on the docu-ments of Vatican II and the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith. We will incorporate both in this year’s schedule! St. Clare’s Faith Enrichment Class will restart on Monday, Jan 14th @ 7pm in Re-nehan Hall. The first set of classes will be about Vatican II. Check the bulletin for more classes throughout the year. Since opening in the Spring of 2011, the local Family Promise organization has assisted 25 families, includ-ing 62 children. St. Clare’s has been an important support site for helping these families transition from homelessness to homes of their own. Many of the adults have been able to go back to work because of assistance from the Family Promise staff. Their success would not have been possible without the support of St. Clare’s and the other faith congregations in Santa Clarita. Special thanks to all St. Clare’s members who have volunteered time and service or have donated financially to assist these families. You have given these children and their parents new hope for independence and dignity.
The week of January 27 and the week of February 23rd, St. Clare’s will again be assisting Bouquet Canyon Church in hosting families during the week. Volunteers are needed to provide evening meals, evening hospitality and overnight supervision. If you can assist, please contact Karen Mapes @(661)251-3211 or [email protected].
There are other volunteer opportunities and financial support is always a need. Please see the website at www.familypromisescv.org
Each Sunday morning after the 7:30 and 9am Masses, join us on the patio for coffee, juice, and goodies. This is a great way to meet your parish
family and make new friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

ARMED FORCES PRAYER MINISTRY (Please keep the following active military members, loved ones of our parishioners, in your prayers.)
From the Prayer of the Archdiocese for Military Services
Almighty God and Father, look with love upon our men and women in uniform and protect them in their time of need. Give them health and stability and allow them to return to their loved ones whole and unshaken. Be with their families and sustain them in these uncertain times. Hear us as we present our prayers to You through Christ our Lord. Amen
Rachel’s Vineyard Weekend Retreat (for healing after abortion)
Rachel’s Vineyard is a safe place to renew, rebuild and redeem hearts broken by abortion. Weekend retreats offer a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment.
Rachel’s Vineyard facilitates an experience of God’s compassion on a profound level. It creates a place where you can share, often for the first time, your deepest feeling about abortion. Troubling secrets are allowed to be dismantled in an environment of emotional healing and spirituality.
Rachel’s Vineyard is therapy for the soul. Participants who have been trapped in anger toward themselves or others, experience forgive-ness. Peace is found. Lives are restored. A sense of hope is rediscovered.
For registration or more information please call: 866-272-2435 or www.rachelsvineyard.org
RCIA GRAD Class! If you, or someone you know has been through the RCIA process in the past 5 years or so, either here or in any other parish, we would like to invite you to join us every Tuesday (except Christmas and New Years) at 7pm in Room 6 for the RCIA Grads!. We pick up right where the RCIA class leaves off, so
this is a perfect opportunity for new adult Catholics to continue to grow in our faith. We will look at ways to get more out of Mass, answer common Catholic
questions, and enrich our understanding and practice of the faith.
As you might know, Pope Benedict has declared a Year of Faith, from this October till November 28,
2013. In response to this declaration, we will under-take a journey of faith based on the writings of
St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and Pope Benedict. Their teachings are all about making
progress in our spiritual lives. So if you've been through RCIA in the past several years and are interested in growing in your faith,
please join us Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm in room 6 here at St. Clare.
