FEAR NOT In these times, there is plenty to be afraid of, if we only look around. It seems that every day the news media have yet more bad news to tell: wars, disease, terrorism, drought, social unrest, and more. Some people have stopped using clock radios to wake up in the morning, preferring a jarring buzzer to the even more jarring morning news. What more do we need before we realize that we are finite creatures, and while there is much we can do to make our world better, ultimately there is a lot that is simply not within our grasp? Welcome to St. Clare Catholic Community Our warmest welcome to all who celebrate with us. How may we serve you? If you would like to have your child baptized, have your marriage blessed in the church, have a Eucharistic minister visit someone who is ill, or have general questions, please call the Parish Office at: (661)252-3353. We are open Monday from 1:30 to 5pm and

Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5pm. We look forward to serving you!

P ARISH REGISTRATION forms are available in the front vestibule, side entrances of the church, and at

the parish office during regular office hours. In order for our priests to better serve you, especially at the time of baptism, marriage, or a funeral, it is most helpful if you are registered and participating in our parish community.

M ARRIAGE: The bride and/or groom must be registered and actively participating in the parish

for at least three months. Then, a six-month preparation program is required. Please call the office for further information.

H OSPITAL/HOME, HOLY COMMUNION, AND SICK VISITS: For Holy Communion, please contact the

parish office during office hours. A Priest or Eucharistic Minister will visit you and attend to your needs. In case of hospitalization, please inform the admissions office that you are Catholic, so that they will be able to notify us. In case of an emergency or death in the family, a priest can be reached 24 hours a day. Call the parish office number anytime for an emergency pager number.

Tri-Parish Bowling League The Tri-Parish Bowling League will be starting the fall session on Tuesday, September 15th at 6:30pm at Santa Clarita Lanes (near Saugus Speedway)! The cost will be $13 per person and will include 3 games of bowling, shoes and ball (if needed). Day care is available for younger siblings (notice is requested so care can be arranged). The whole family can join as long as no one needs bumpers! This is a great oppor-tunity to have some great fun with the family as well as meet wonderful people in our church community. The fall session runs for 15 weeks. If you are inter-ested in joining us, please call Dave Clarke at 805-630-2787 to sign up! Sign up now as there is limited space available.

Calling all Catholic Boy Scouts!

If you have completed the sixth grade, are at least 13 years old, a practicing Catholic, and interested in growing in your faith, join us and earn the Ad Altare Dei religious emblem. Do You Want to Join the Children’s Choir ? We are looking for a few new members. If you have a child whom is at least 7 years old , and wants to praise God through song, he or she now has the chance to join us!

We'll meet for weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in the blue room/ Pope room starting Tuesday September 8, 2015. We'll serve at the 9 a.m. Mass on the First Sunday of each month, beginning October through May. Requirements: Child: 7+ years old, and attendance to all rehearsals- health permitting. Our 11:00 (adult) choir is returning from summer break and that is always the best time to join. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the church and our first one started on August 20th. If you are interested in joining, we will be having auditions in the evening on 9/3. FAITH FORMATION Matthew Kelly event ticket sales were fantastic! We sold 134 tickets for the March 4, 2016 event. I was told by Dynamic Catholic that the response was so great on their web site to buy tickets as well as what is being done in our parishes that it will quickly be a sell out! Introducing a Religious Education class for our families with children who have special needs. The class will provide children with a modified Catholic catechesis adapted to student needs. Individual assessments will determine course work. Interested families need to call the R.E. office to make an ap-pointment for registration. Bring your child’s IEP. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE El Rito del Bautismo contiene varios elementos simbólicos que merecen nuestra atención. El agua, por ejemplo, es un elemento de doble significado. Es símbolo de vida y pureza. Además, la misma agua que es símbolo de vida, también puede traer la muerte. En el Rito del Bautismo el agua da muerte a nuestro viejo ser para hacernos renacer a la vida abundante que nos promete el Señor. Una vez renacidos se nos recuerda que nos hemos revestido de Cristo (las vestiduras blancas), que Dios nos ha iluminado (la vela) y nos ha ungido (seleccionado) con el crisma, óleo perfumado con que se consagraban los reyes, profetas y sacerdotes en tiempos bíblicos. Todos estos símbolos son bellos, pero a mi parecer, el más bello es el de Efata, que en griego significa ábrete. El ministro bendice los oídos del bautizado para que se abran a la Palabra de Dios y le bendice también la boca para que proclame no sólo alabanzas a Dios, sino para que sea un pregonero de su palabra.
