RAF Trip
RAF stands for Royal Air Force, and they are basically the army in the
sky with planes and fighter jets from WW1 to now. They have been
fighting in wars to defend England for the last 100 years. On Monday,
we went to the Horse Guards Parade to see some old and new planes. We saw the new stealth
jet, but it was a model. Also, we went the ‘Stem’ zone which is where we did workshops.
There were lots of games. Unfortunately, we only
stayed there for a short time.
On Tuesday there was an RAF flypast and we all
went into our playground to watch the jets fly past.
Our Project
On Tuesday, we started a project about our time in Primary School from when we started to
now. We have to write what we did in each Year and each section has to be at least one page.
By Demka & Layann
This week’s Queen and King of
Year 3 are Nadia and Ramy
for always doing the right thing
by following the 4C code.
Year 5’s Blog
Last week ,year 5 went to a trip to Southbank for the River Thames. First we went to Earls Court
Station to get the train to Westminster, next we walked through the bridge, and after that we
sat down on the mats and sketched the view of the river , Big Ben , Houses of Parliament and
London Eye .
There was a park where you can play with sand and we all covered our feet with it, then we went
to a fountain where we could go in and play, then we all went to the Jubilee Garden to have
lunch/picnic. Best trip ever !!!
In Maths we have been doing chunking problems (which means division with bus stop method )
with RUCSAC which is: read, understand, choose, solve, answer and check.
In Music we have been rehearsing a song called Shine by Take That and singing the solos . We
will preform our song on Monday 16th at our graduation to our parents, teachers, governors
and our school mates . By Auriza, Kenza and Fatima
Elyaa YN, “For our gradua-
tion we got into nice clothes
and ate cookies and strawber-
ries.”
Abdul YR, “For my gradua-
tion we sang ‘Singing in the
Rain’ and took pictures with
our parents.”
Dear St Cuthbert children and parents,
It is the hat season again, and just when you thought you
had seen all the most gorgeous hats in the world sitting a-
top heads at a Royal wedding or at Horse Races recently, I
am letting you know that they do not even come close to
the elegant and glamorous mortarboards that are appear-
ing in graduations and classrooms this week…well done to
the children and adults for helping our graduation ceremo-
nies to be stylish events of the summer season, and thank
you to the parents who are joining us on these occasions,
in our final two weeks of term.
We have so much to fit into our newsletter this week that I
will need to be mindful that I do not allow myself to ram-
ble on too much, and so with haste, I am speeding to share
with you some much-awaited news: statutory test results.
Our children and teaching team (as well as supportive
family teams) have much to celebrate this week. Well done
to you all for the hours of effort, dedication, perseverance
and determination that have gone into allowing us all to
celebrate your success this end of the year. The results we
are sharing with you in our newsletter today are credit to a
fabulous and dedicated teaching team and enthusiastic,
driven children. You should all feel very proud of what you
have achieved - you are all very deserving of a restful and
relaxed summer holiday in a week’s time.
With the joy of end-of-year results also comes sadness of
end-of-year Good-byes. We sadly say Good-bye to Mrs
Sokhi who will be leaving us this term. We wish her the
very best for the future and thank her for the time she has
been with us. We also say Good-bye to Miss Webster who
is moving on to new pastures and thank her for all the
years of teaching she has given to St Cuthbert children. We
wish her the very best in her new ventures as well.
We are sadly also saying Good-bye to Miss Cahill, Mrs
Qureshi, Ms Shafi and Ms Calero who will all be moving on
to new things. Thank you too for the time you have spent
with us at St Cuthbert’s, albeit short.
We are very pleased to let you know that our team will be
joined by Mr Derrington (Y6, Y3), Mr Crowley (Y4) and
Mrs Abu Ghaida (SENCo). We wish you all a very happy
stay with us in our school and welcome you to a school
filled with lovely children, eager to learn!
Very soon we will also update you with details of our lead-
ership team for next academic year.
With all this information now shared, I need to close and
wish you a happy weekend break.
Best wishes,
Gill Putterill and the St Cuthbert Teaching Team

HEAD TEACHER’S LETTER
Year 4 Blog
On Monday, we practised our
mental maths skills and complet-
ed a SPaG workbook to refresh all
of the wonderful learning we’ve
been doing over the year. We also did our weekly spelling
test!
In Spanish, we learnt how to describe people and their
feelings. For example: Sofia = tengo el pelo rizado y media
melena (which means: she has curly hair and a bob).
On Tuesday, sadly we went to our swimming lesson for the
final time in year 4 and we completed races such as: the
motorbike, the taxi and after (as a treat) we had 10 minute
of fun in the pool.
On Wednesday, we designed our own ancient Greek vases.
Ancient Greek vases often featured intricate, geometric
patterns and other significant features such as gods, god-
desses and warfare. Did you know that most houses in an-
cient Greece didn’t have running water? The Greeks had to
travel to a special water house nearby to collect water in
their majestic vases.
On Thursday, we also had a special visitor from the V&A
named Bethan - she gave us some special passports which
give us access to lots of activities that happen at the V&A
Museum, such as making your own ceramics and creating
and printing your own Islamic prints with iPads! Later on,
Miss Kennedy read the end of The Tiger Rising, our class
novel.
By Aliyah and Mariig
Crina Y3, “We went to Kensington
park and played on the soft ground
after taking our shoes off. We also
went to Battersea park and played
football.”
Mustafa Y2, “We graduated on
Monday and we sang our songs then
we got our certificates and had bis-
cuits and strawberries. We also took
our pictures with our parents. ”
