Dear Friends in St. Dominic. The month of May is traditionally dedicated to Mary in many cultures. May is considered the season of the beginning of new life. Two Marian liturgical celebrations are commemorated in May. When Ascension falls in May (as in the case this year 2016), the Saturday after the Ascension of our Lord is traditionally celebrated the Feast of Our Lady, Queen of the Apostles. The liturgy commemorates the period of time after the Ascension when the apostles were gath-ered in prayer with Mary and the women in the upper room. On May 31, in the United States, we celebrate the com-memoration of the visitation. When Mary heard that her elderly relative, Elizabeth, was expecting a child, she hurried to help her. Mary’s service brought Christ to the home of Zechariah and Elizabeth. This week-end (May 8th ), Mother’s day is celebrated to honor all mothers and express gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. Most countries including US, Australia, Canada and India celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May. Mothers Day came into being due to the efforts made by Ms Julia Ward Howe and Ms Anna Jarvis. The Resolution for having a dedicated Mother's Day was signed by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914. Since then people across the world have been celebrating Mothers Day with joy and devotion. Today we pray for all mothers that God will bless them and that strengthened by God’s grace, their example of faith and love may shine forth and that their children will honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. This Sunday, we also celebrate ascension Sunday. Forty Days after the Resurrection of Jesus, the Acts of the Apostles records Jesus' ascension into heaven. The ascension is an important Christian holiday that attests to the reality of Jesus Christ, God and human, returning to the Father, to return again in the future second coming. The Ascension is the final component of the paschal mystery, which consists also of Jesus' Crucifixion (and related components like his suffering and death) and Resurrection. Along with the resurrection, the ascension functioned as a proof of Jesus' claim that he was the Messiah. The Ascension is also the event whereby humanity was taken into heaven. The Ascension shows Christ as all-powerful and all good. Before the very eyes of his closest followers, 40 days after his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ ascended body and soul into heaven. What exactly does this word ascended mean? Every year on August 15, we celebrate a different feast: Mary's assumption into heaven. The Catechism tells us: Mary was assumed into heaven - was assumed. There is a difference here: Christ ascends; Mary is assumed. Christ is God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity become man. He is both fully God and fully man, a mystery so great that we cannot understand it completely. Mary is immaculate (free from sin), and she is also the Mother of Christ and therefore properly honored as the Mother of God. But still, she is only human; she does not possess the divine nature, as Christ does. This is why she could not cause herself to ascend into heaven, as Christ did. Instead, God had to take her up into heaven, and so we say that she was assumed. Christ's ascension, in other words, reveals his divinity, just as his resurrection did. Many people throughout salvation history have been raised or have raised others from the dead with the help of God's power. But only Christ rose from the dead on his own. As true God, he holds power over life and death; he is omnipotent, all-powerful, "almighty" as we say each week in the Creed. And as true man, Jesus used that omnipotence to conquer death for our sake, to win our salvation, to redeem us. By bringing redeemed human nature up into heaven, he showed that along with being all-powerful, he is also all-good, all-loving. Christ's ascension, then, reminds us that there is no limit to the confidence we can have in our God, because there is no limit to his power and goodness. Sincerely yours in Christ Rev. Cuando cae la Ascensión en mayo (como en el caso de este año 2016), el sábado después de la Ascensión del Señor se celebra tradicionalmente la fiesta de Nuestra Señora, Reina de los Apóstoles. La liturgia recuerda el período de tiempo después de la Ascensión, cuando los apóstoles estaban reunidos en oración con María y las mujeres en el aposento alto. 1. DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (DRE) (Full Time- Bilingual) St. Dominic Catholic Church is seeking a full-time Director of Religious Education. The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of various education programs and objectives established by the parish. The DRE will oversee and professionally mange faith formation education programs and activities of all levels including elementary, middle school, high school and adults. The DRE will oversee the CCE ongoing education programs, sacramental programs, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), children with special needs programs, vacation religious programs, Sunday liturgy-of-the-word, and adult faith formation and education activities. The DRE will work closely with other key directors to establish a comprehensive curriculum and series of programs designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Faith and its teachings. This position will report directly to the Pastor. FACILITIES MANAGER St. Dominic Parish, (Full Time –Bilingual) The Facilities Manager at St. Dominic Parish is responsible for maintaining the parish buildings and grounds. The Facilities Manager performs and supervises tasks related to HVAC (AC) (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning), electrical, plumbing, security, environmental, safety, custodial and event coordination. This position requires a team player attitude, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to details and project coordination. The Facilities Manager has a clear understanding of acceptable business practices in relationship to church teachings. The Facilities Manager has the ability to collaborate with and support the Pastor, Business Manager, parish staff and parishioners. HISPANIC MINISTRY COORDINATOR (Part Time) POSITION PURPOSE I. This position assures the development and implementation of a comprehensive, integrated vision of Hispanic ministry in the parish. II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES: • Oversees the development and implementation of a parish plan for Hispanic ministry. Incumbent collaborates with

pastor and other pastoral ministers to assure this plan is integrated into all aspects of parish life. Components of the plan include but are not limited to:

• welcoming/hospitality ministry; sacramental preparation; liturgy and music; religious education/faith formation; youth ministry; migrant ministry; evangelization; cultural understanding and integration.

• Coordinates volunteer opportunities and involvement for Hispanic members of the parish; establishes and maintains effective relationships with parishioners and participates in all major programs opportunities sponsored by the parish.

• Serves as pastor’s delegate to designated meetings, boards, commissions, and/or Councils. • Assures the annual office budget for Hispanic Ministry is prepared and implemented in a timely and effective

manner. • Maintains a current level of knowledge and skills required for this position. This is accomplished through reading,

attending appropriate workshops, etc. and participating in professional organizations as approved.
