Happy Palm Sunday Everyone! So what’s with the weeds everyone is carrying around? Are they just so people have something to play with during the homily? Actually the palm branches are a sign of deference, of respect and homage to Jesus. Like all of the items we have (statues, rosaries, etc.), palm branches are sacramentals, signs to help us grow closer to the Lord. People would lay palm branches across roads so as one of importance crossed over there would be a nicer path. But where were these palm layers five days later when Jesus was crucified? Ah, yes. Sometimes, we too, bail when it’s hard. Which is why we shout “CRUCIFY HIM!” during our reading of the Passion. Let this week truly be a "Holy Week”. Can you make it to Mass during the week? How about praying a little more? Another sacrifice? These can be modern palms we can lay before the feet of our King. Holy Week Schedule Thursday 10am: Chrism Mass at the Cathedral (where the holy oils are blessed by Archbishop Carlson) Thursday 7pm: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at St. E’s Friday 7pm: Passion Service Saturday 8pm: Easter Vigil Easter Sunday: Masses are at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM ****This time of year we have some more guests attend our church. It is a HUGE OPPORTUNITY for us to be hospitable and Christian. You never know what impact you can have on a visitor. I’ll try my best, but promise me you will too. Short of letting someone have your Easter candy, let’s make people feel welcome so they come back after Easter.**** Have a happy Holy Week! Fr. Fallon

Dynamic Catholic, Alive!- – Self-Emptying We hear such powerful readings this Sunday. This is such a solemn time as we enter this sacred week. The readings remind us of the model our Lord Jesus Christ has given to us- one of patient, humble suffering. He willingly accepted death for the salvation of all. Led like a sheep to the slaughter, He did not revile those who killed Him but instead prayed for them. We too are called to empty ourselves in this final stage of Lent. What sins are we holding onto that others have committed? Are we seeking revenge or holding onto anger? Jesus shows us that we must empty ourselves of sin and hatred in order to enter into the glory God desires for us. This week, let us seek to offer up our hardships, forgive those who have hurt us, and love others selflessly as the Master did and continues to do. archstl.org/dynamic.

“News Around Town” Dear Faithful of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, On Good Friday, March 30, 2018, the annual collection for the Holy Land will be taken up in parishes throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The Gospel message of compassion confirms the need for the Good Friday collection in support of our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. We must recognize how much the generous concern of Catholics around the world has already accomplished in this tumultuous area of the world. Our financial assistance supports the Holy Places, but also social and charitable activities, educational and scientific activities, and pastoral activities. In addition, the collection supports liturgical, ecumenical and communications programs. It is important that we assist in providing care for the Christians living in the Holy Land. I want to ask you for your generous support of the collection for the Holy Land on Good Friday, March 30. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis
