Hi Friends! October is well known as Respect Life Month throughout the U.S. I'm hoping we can make this a priority in our parish this October. In our Second Reading from Philippians 2, we hear Paul exhort us, "Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus." That's hard to do! And it's especially difficult in society, because it calls us out of ourselves to consider the needs of others, to be another Christ. So what are we going to do? I propose a couple of things: This weekend our parishioners have staked crosses they've made and painted, 140 to represent the number of abortions in the US each hour. Let's pray a rosary for the end to abortion this week. Pro life extends beyond protesting abortion. It also cares for the immigrant, the aged, the imprisoned. Let's involve ourselves with these efforts! This month we're having a sock drive. (Yeah I know, pretty glamorous). By having a sock drive in October, however, we'll be able to support those who have no socks in the coming cold weeks. If you can purchase a pack of new socks and bring them to church this month, that would be awesome. All proceeds will benefit Our Lady's Inn. What a gesture of the respect of all life! Thanks for your responses to Stewardship Sunday. I think you're awesome and I'm humbled by your spirit. It shows how much you love Jesus and long to serve Him! Peace, Fr. Fallon

“News Around Town” Dear Friends in Christ, The annual celebration of World Mission Sunday on the next-to-last Sunday in October provides us, as members of the Body of Christ, an opportunity to show our solidarity with one another. In his 2017 message for World Mission Sunday, Pope Francis invites us “to reflect anew on the mission at the heart of the Christian faith.” As we know, mission is not an optional aspect of our vocation as baptized Christians; rather, sharing the gift of divine life and love received in Baptism is an imperative received from Christ. Laity, Religious, and clergy alike strive to make “present in history the Kairos, the favorable time of salvation” in the more than 1,100 local churches throughout the world that the Pope’s Mission Societies support. Celebrated this year on October 22, World Mission Sunday allows us “to join in prayer, testimony of life and communion of goods” with those who so generously pour out their lives in service to Christ, and with our brothers and sisters who receive the fruits of their labors. Mission churches in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe cover more than half the territory of the globe and serve millions of people annually. While missionary discipleship begins at home, it does not end there—nor at a border. We are called to be one in Christ who unites us in charity, a charity which is made effec-tive in the sharing of our blessings. I invite you to ask our Lord to show you what he is asking you to do for Him through your sup-port of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith on World Mission Sunday and on each day of your life through your prayers, sacrifi-cial offerings, and charity. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson
