Winter Weather Reminder It is very important that students have the opportunity to play

outside and to be warm while they play. Students will be outside

for both 15-minute recesses and the 40-minute lunch recess dur-

ing the winter, weather permitting. We check the weather station

at frequent intervals throughout the day and adhere to Board Pol-

icy #221.

The following temperature guidelines were reviewed and agreed

upon with CSC at the October meeting.

-16°c to -20°c all recesses will be indoor

-15°c, the 15 minute recesses will be outdoor and the lunch

recess will be divided into 20 minutes indoor and 20 minutes

outdoor.

Please ensure that your child comes to school properly dressed

with: proper headwear, gloves/mittens, scarf and winter boots.

Primary students in particular and any student who likes to play in the snow should have an extra change of clothes at school in the event that their socks and/or pants get wet. Clothing items should be clearly labelled and kept in the child’s school bag.

Inclement Weather Procedures To ensure the safety of students, school bus service may be can-celled from time to time due to inclement weather, extreme tem-peratures and/or poor road conditions. In these cases, parents/guardians and students should develop alternate care/transportation arrangements. Cancellation decisions will be made by 6:00a.m. Cancellation decisions will only be made after thorough consultation with the Safety Officers of school bus companies servicing York Region and are based on several factors including precipitation, air temperature, road conditions and weather forecast. You can listen to one of the radio stations listed to determine if buses for York Region have been cancelled. If the York Region District School buses are cancelled, then York Catholic Dis-trict School buses are also cancelled since we share the same buses. Once cancelled in the morning, buses will not be running in the afternoon either. Schools are rarely closed, even though buses are cancelled. Please do not call the school to inquire if the school is open. Radio stations will provide the necessary information beginning 7:00 a.m. Parents/guardians are asked to exercise good judgment in deciding whether to send a child to school when buses have been cancelled. If you decide to drive your children in to school, please consider that over the course of the day, weather condi-tions could worsen, and retrieving your child at the end of the day may be particularly hazardous.

Parents/guardians, students and school staff are asked to access the following radio and television stations after 6:00 a.m. to re-ceive bus cancellation information:

Please do not speed, and do not attempt to pass vehicles that are stopped. Let’s give our children time to unload from the vehicles safely. Everyone’s cooperation is greatly appreciated! In order to keep the driveway a safe path for students and all pedestrians, there is no entry to the driveway at the following times: 8:30am to 9:00am 12:00 to 1:00 3:30 to 4:00pm Vehicles that have entered prior to these times, must wait until the school bus, school taxis have left the driveway. SGA LIBRARY EVENTS The Scholastic Book Fair has come to our school and you are in-vited to come and share in this celebration of literacy with us! Now more than ever, reading is vital to leading a better life. Knowing how to read is just the beginning. Motivating young people to keep reading, comprehend what they read and develop the ability to think creatively are the end goals. Scholastic Book Fairs has the books to motivate more read-ing. With your involvement, we can inspire children to practice reading and read more often. Together, we can make a difference in their lives that will last a lifetime. One great way to ensure our children get started with reading and keep on reading all year long is with the Classroom Wish List program. We urge you to stop by the CWL display when you first arrive at the Fair. Learn how purchasing books and donating them to your child’s classroom can give little readers even greater access to the books they want to read by expanding existing class-room libraries. Each teacher was asked to fill-in their “book wish list” prior to the Fair. Look for your child’s teacher’s name on the display. All teachers took great care in selecting the best and most appropriate books to meet their students’ reading levels and learning needs. It is their wish that these books become a permanent part of the classroom library. Every generous gift you make will be recog-nized with a special bookplate, identifying your family or child as the donor. Can’t make it to the Fair? Make your donation by selecting a book from the Book Fairs Featured Book page (http://www.scholastic.ca/bookfairs/featuredbooks.php) and completing the “Wish Granted” Form available on the Classroom Wish List page (http://www.scholastic.ca/bookfairs/wishlist.php). Your support can help a classroom blossom with new and exciting adventures in reading, stimulating young minds for years to come. We hope to see you at the Book Fair. Thank-you for your support. Sincerely, Ms. D. Tonelli, Teacher-Librarian

Book Fair hours are: Mon. Nov. 19th - Wed. Nov. 21st from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Thursday November 22nd from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday November 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
