Second Sunday of easter

segundo domingo de PASCUA

Second Sunday of Easter:

“Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believed,” Jesus says in today’s Gospel. For those who have not seen to believe, however, we must be good stewards of our faith, living it joyfully and sharing it generously. Then, in our time too, “men and women in great numbers” will be “added to the Lord.”

In today’s Gospels, Jesus says to the Apostles “Peace be with you, as the Father has sent me, so I send you.” He breathed on them and said “Receive the Holy Spirit”. With these words, Jesus is also instructing us to go forth as he did and to love and serve His people. Thomas was not with the apostles and did not believe that Jesus had appeared. When later Jesus appeared again, Thomas was with them, but still doubting, he needed to check Jesus’ wounds to believe. And Jesus said “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. Are we like Thomas? Or do we truly believe? How has Easter and the Resurrection changed your life? For our newest recipients (Neophytes) of the Sacraments of Initiation, this Easter season is a time of reflection; 1) on the Sacraments they have received and 2) time to discern how they are being called to use their special talents and gifts in God’s community which will bring them closer to Jesus. It will become a period of further under-standing that to “BELIEVE IS TO SEE”. Please keep our Neophytes in your prayers. For information on RCIA, please call The Faith Formation Office @ 433-2777, ext. 138 or Martin Schott 521-9079.

St. Luke Men’s Club

On Saturday, March 6, 2010 the St. Luke Men’s Club

held its 36th Annual Wild Game Dinner at the St. Paul Community Center. This event is the club’s major fund raiser of the year and is the source of the club’s donations to many St. Luke and local civic and religious charitable activities. Over one hundred club members worked for several months preparing for this event. The buffet in-cluded various wild game entrees and homemade desserts. Several raffles and auctions were held throughout the exciting evening. The raffles and auctions included sports equipment for fishing and hunt-ing and paintings depicting outdoor scenes.. The evening culmi-nated with a special Big Bucks Raffle which gave away $10,500 cash. Over 600 guests were in attendance at the lively event.

The Men’s Club is pleased to announce that it was again blessed with a successful fundraiser. In keeping with club’s mission to help the needy and sponsor life-enriching organizations, the club re-spectfully invites charitable organizations and activities to sub-mit a request for donations by May 15, 2010. Please visit the club’s web site at www.saintlukemensclub.com for information and a copy of the required application form. If you have any questions, please call Ralf Meneses, Benevolence Committee Chairman at 684-0883.
