POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION For Our Deacons: We pray that deacons, faithful in their service to the Word and the poor, may be an invigorating symbol for the entire Church. Heavenly Father, since the time of the Apostles you have inspired the Church to commission

certain members to assist in a special way in the pastoral mission of Christ. Bless the deacons and all other ordained and non-ordained ministers that they may be humble and faith-inspired in their service. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

AFTERWORD….Fr. Dave Howell

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!! I want to wish all of our mothers, step mothers and grandmothers a very happy Mother’s Day. I truly hope that the love and affection shone to you this weekend will last well into the weeks and months ahead! I am grateful for all my mother and grandmother gave and taught me. But I am also grateful for a group of mothers young & old who met each Wednesday in the community from which I retired . It was called the MOMS Group (moms meant: ministry of moms sharing). As the name implies, Motherhood is far more than a role, it is a genuine ministry – perhaps one of the most important ministries anyone can undertake. It is a ministry that imitates the Holy Spirit, whom we believe is the giver of life, like our mothers. Moms nurture that life through the care and concern, the love, sacrifice and service she offers to her child(ren). All of which is a real reflection of God’s love. In so many ways, the ministry of a mother is one of the most important revelations of God’s love to her child(ren), to others and to us all. There is good reason why some of the Bible’s most touching passages telling us of God’s care and compassion are written describing God in maternal terminology! Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms among us! Keep up the great ministry – it is one of the best catechisms we have! LOOKING FORWARD During these days of isolation I find that except for an occasional phone call, the only ones I speak to each day are the dogs: Rusty & Jani. (Even there the conversation is one way and is often limited to a phrase or single word – Go out? Treat? etc.) As a result, I find myself really looking forward to our Monday & Thursday conference calls called Faith Chat, the Men’s fellowship on Saturday and the Tuesday & Friday Liturgies. But most of all, I look forward to the Sunday Liturgy. Most of the staff and their spouses, so we have “a crowd” of ten, but afterward, we have our “Communion line” of cars. Even though I don’t have much interaction with the people (good morning, Body of Christ, you’re welcome, etc.) I find I enjoy it and look forward to it. It actually is the highlight of my week. Again, I want to thank all the people that make it possible for us to keep in contact with you. I really appreciate the efforts of our deacon, Ron Kenney and all those who have set up the technology that keeps us in contact and those who come each week to help us give Communion to some 500 folks each weekend. Thank you!

Fr. Dave Howell

Ron’s Thoughts…

As the Pandemic restrictions are eased, please keep an eye on our website and other parish communications for our plan to begin public Masses and Gatherings. Please continue to pray and trust that God will guide us through this time of continued uncertainty. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me. D-Ron Ron’s Thoughts… I have served in the church as a fulltime lay minister for over 35 years, the last 15 as a permanent deacon. The majority of my ministry has been in the area of Faith Formation, as a Youth Minister and Director of Religious Education. I have to say that God has truly blessed me with serving in such faith-filled communities and I couldn’t be any more blessed since coming to St. Mark. At no time during these years have I ever looked at what I do, as a job. I remember one time being told by a priest, “Ron, God needs you to work with his children.” I never fully understood what that meant but I decided back in 1984 that I would give it a shot. Well, here I am many years later. It has never been without its sacrifices and trials. My life has fallen and risen in many different ways. But each day is a good day, because it’s a GOD DAY in my life. I was asked sometime early on in my ministry why I do what I do and I said, “I love Christ, I love people and I love bringing the two together.” And that is what drives me each day, I get the chance to serve the people of God. Today in the Acts of the Apostles it is written of Stephen (Incidentally the first Deacon in the church), that he was filled with FAITH and the HOLY SPIRIT. I was hungry for Jesus 35 years ago and I can tell you, that is what keeps me going today. I think that Stephen was hungry and filled with FAITH and the HOLY SPIRIT, because he knew firsthand the power of Jesus. Believe me, every day is a struggle because, just like you, I am surrounded with the ways of the world. Sometimes I do fail and fall flat on my face. But then I once again remind myself, I am not in this alone, GOD IS AT MY SIDE! I thank God for you, the people of God for giving me the chance to serve you. My prayer each day for you and me, BE FILLED WITH FAITH AND THE HOLY SPIRIT! And see where you go! Our Easter journey continues … Walk the talk. Be Peace! D-Ron ([email protected])

VOCATION Roman Catholics in the United States spend a good deal of time speaking of “vocation” and the manner in which each of us discerns our vocation for life. In today’s apostolic letter, however, Peter gives us the “cornerstone” of our vocation, the description of what each of us is called to first and foremost by our baptism. He describes our vocation as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of [God’s] own, so that you may announce the praises” of Christ, who called us out of darkness into light (1 Peter 2:9). All of us, no matter what path our life’s vocation may take us down, have been chosen by God, made holy, and anointed as priests in the high priesthood of Christ through baptism. All of this, so that we may announce the praises of Christ. Vocation is given for proclamation at home, in the workplace—wherever life takes us—in service, in word, and in sacrament.
